  1. I still think we go 9-3 or 10-2, but it will not be nearly as easy to recover mentally from the UCLA game as we did after last year's Ohio State game. With this year's schedule, we could have gone 10-2 with no improvement over last year at all, and it might still happen, but even so, I don't think anyone will be able to get their hopes up any higher. This was supposed to be the year that something special finally happened, but it's not going to.

  2. In the book "Diary of a Husker" by David Kolowski, documenting a player's perspective of Solich's last years, Tom Osborne wrote an appendix wherein he said that football was a game of blocking and tackling, and any other gimmicks are probably an indication that you aren't doing the fundamentals correctly. The first time I read that was late in Callahan's tenure, and it made me think about all the fancy shifting and formations that his offense used, which ended up taking the place of good ol' fundamentals.

Now I think of the same thing with Pelini, and this blog hits it on the head. Schemes and talent don't work without the basic fundamentals. With most coaches, you would see the hard-nosed deameanor of Pelini and imagine that fundamentals and discipline come first, but sadly it is not the case. Penalties and ball control are part of fundamentals, too. We can't get those things under control, and the tackling sucks. This team has no fundamentals or discipline.

  3. Here is what I don't understand. Most people are saying we lack mental toughness. We play uninspired.

After the first game, which was embarrassing to say the least. We still seem to play uninspired. Why? How do you not get pissed off and try to fire up your teammates. Why do our players seem to hold back?

    This quote pisses me off.

Perhaps a good coach would respond, "Yes there is something you can do about it. You can take a seat."

Unfortunately, the coach seems to have the same "not much we can do about it" attitude. Sad.

  4. Take away that '12 ship. Now the Nebraska v. Bama dynasty debate isn't even close.

    Really? I think that's a reach.

You take away the 2012 National Championship and Alabama has 2 within 4 years, or 3 withing 5 years if they make it through their "brutual SEC schedule" this year. I don't think that is a reach at all. The debate was very close with both having 3 within 4 years. If you take one away, it isn't even debatable.

If you are talking to someone about which championships belong in the record books, you may need to choose a different dance partner than an A&M fan. chuckleshuffle

  5. Suh came out of his garage waving the pellet gun in "an intimidating manner."

I laugh when I try to picture this. A gun doesn't really make Suh that much more intimidating. Suh could have stepped out with bunny slippers and a propeller beanie and the cable guy still probably would have crapped himself.

  6. Man after watching that Saban video my first thought is that he acted like a child. Bo gets a hard time for not getting along with the media but man that was bad.

He was urging people to talk to him about A&M instead, but he got just as pissy when he was asked about Manziel earlier in the season.

  7. I am still checking in from time to time. I would love to see the Huskers unseat the "big two" in the BIG TEN.

You know on another board they recently posed the question. "Who is America's team?" It's a stupid question, but if I had to answer I would say aside from teh service academies it would have to be either Notre Dame because of hte nationwide Catholic appeal or Nebraska. nebraska is right in the heartland and represents the best of America. It's neither west coast, nor east. It's neither north or south. It is in the heartland.

I had also see someone mention that Nebraska would never be able to return to prominanace because of the lack of a recruiting base in it;s geographic area. I say hogwash. Nebraska never had a probalem pulling talent from all over the country. I don't know how many star players they pulled from Californis, Florida, Georgia, etc. With the facilities there, nebraska can be a draw again. They just have to put their name back on the map for the younger players. Sadly, Most of them can't remember the last tiem Nebraska had a truly dominant team. If Nebraska can get back on the national map, no one in the middle of the country can recruit with them. Who in the surrounding states has the reputation (and probably facilities) that nebraska has? No one.

Well, anyway good luck agaisnt UCLA. Unless you guys trip up (lack of focus, whatever) you should win this one by about ten points.

  8. I kinda got into the "Monday Night Wars" in the late 90s, early 2000s. I would watch Raw and Nitro, but never bought any PPV's. I haven't paid attention to it in nearly 10 years though.

I'm in the same boat. I was a huge fan back in those days, which was during high school and college for me. I have fond memories of the storylines during the Monday night wars and NWO period, but haven't watched any of it in a decade.

  9. Ulty, you're probably right. I guess my emotions are a little raw after seeing him, in my perception, being dragged over the coals by the media over the summer.

People on this thread have mostly been respectful as they just discuss the situation.

And I know he's not innocent. I know he's made mistakes and still has a lot of growing up to do.

  10. I didn't realize providing links and valid arguments, while proposing alternate points of view made me a crybaby.

You're not a crybaby, and your points are respectable. But your recent posts are starting to paint Manziel as an innocent victim. Everything else in this thread is just people having fun.

  11. He didn't find the spotlight. The spotlight found him. He's a kid enjoying his life and ESPN figured he'd make a good meal ticket.

This is an excellent article about the situation.

And I know, I know. Y'all hate him. You hate him so much that there is a 9 page thread about a player that isn't even in your conference. Yet, instead of blaming the media that shoves him in our faces 24/7, you attack a college student.

    It's cool.

    LEAVE JOHNNY ALONE!

  12. He wouldn't be the first or last professor to come of as a biased douche. I'd be interested in hearing how he responds to anyone who would challenge his thoughts, if he would engage in an intellectual debate or if he would put them down.

I lean left myself, but I hate it when people, especially teachers, engage in such one-sided discussions.

As NUance said, there's probably a lot more to know about this guy, so I don't know if an actual punishment was appropriate, but if you invite controversy, you need to be prepared for some blowback.

  13. lol @ where this thread has gone. didn't really wanna go there but since everyone is gonna defend it.......

If you don't know the general area of where a state is [if you are american] in the United States then you are stupid. Ignorant and Stupid. We're seriously talking 5th and 6th grade stuff here.... and we're not talking about a random american, we're talking about a college student. Let's say you have a tough time pointing out exactly where Delware is in the upper northeast.. Sure. Connecticut? Understandable. But a state like Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, Wyoming in the middle of the country with as much area as any of those states occupy.... there is no excuse. I get it... nothing going on here, theres no reason why they would know of it outside of school. But you still gotta own the ignorant and stupid tag to go with it. I'm not judging, and i'm sure these people may be very knowledgeable in other areas... but not knowing where the 50 states are is flat out stupidity. Fact.

I agree with this. My 4 year old already knows where most of the states are and can identify them by shape, thanks to a puzzle we have. I know not everyone has the same access to educational opportunity, or puzzles, in this country, but this is basic stuff.
