  1. Wyoming can win against Nebraska if the Huskers shoot themselves in the foot a hundred times. Period.

Yeah, you guys would never lose to a 6 or 7 win team like Northwestern, Iowa State or CU.

Just in case you guys don't remember, Wyoming is right next door. A lot of us are kind of familiar with Neb and their history.

Those are all BCS schools. How does that pertain to Wyoming?

Yeah, we only play pee-on schools the past 10 years like Boise St, Utah, BYU and TCU

How'd those games turn out for ya?

  2. Smith does appear to be a quite good QB. But his team... obviously... cannot compete with NU on any level. So... give props where props are due --- Smith is a pretty good (at the very least) and perhaps a quite good college QB on a team that will be over matched in most (if not every) area on Saturday. He likely will have some modest measure of success against NU on Saturday... but in the end... NU wins big. Likely very big.

I haven't wanted to put a quarterback in the Graveyard so bad since Blaine Gabbert.

You sir, are a bonified ass. Wishing injury on anyone is the lowest sort of scumbaggery there is. How about we play the game, no injuries and we continue on with our respective seasons? A win by either team will not change world history in one iota, it's just a damn football game. To suggest that your team hurt someone on my team only because we Wyoming fans are not taking all your arrogant sh#t is despicable. Go get an f'n life dirt bag.

Nope, nope, nope. Landlord's "Quarterback Graveyard" is simply a list of quarterbacks who've had statistically poor games against Bo's defense. It has nothing at all to do with injuries.

OK, if you say so. The statement on its face is inflamatory, no?

This is assuming that injuries automatically mean someone goes to a graveyard, if you took Landlord's post literally. We're not talking about horses here. We have medical care for injured humans and can usually avoid graveyards for football injuries. Maybe they do things differently in Wyoming.

  3. Unless I am reading some of the comments wrong, a lot of the Wyoming faithful are talking up Smith's talents to the effect that he and Wyoming will somehow shock Nebraska on Saturday (or at least keep it close). But will all his talents and good numbers last year, Wyoming didn't shock a single damn team. Good quarterback or not, he simply does not lead his team to victory.

What I'm saying is, there has been a lot of talk on this board about Brett Smith and whether or not he is good, but actually it doesn't matter, there is nothing to indicate that Saturday will be anything other than a blowout in NU's favor, although Smith may or may not put up decent numbers. So does it really matter how good anyone thinks he is? It's a bloodbath either way!

  4. I wonder how the whole bribery/payment system works, as in how much money is being thrown around (or at least offered), how it is being delivered, and what measures are taken by a school (or booster) to cover it up when it happens. I mean, people who are accepting payment might not have all that much honor to begin with, so how can the payer trust that it will be kept secret in most cases, knowing what kind of scandal it can cause? Or do they really not worry about it at all, knowing the lack of balls that the NCAA tends to display?

Is there an underground mafia sponsored by specific universities for this sort of thing? Does it come from slush funds from the coaches/AD themselves? Does it just come from loose-cannon boosters?

    The whole process is fascinating.

It also makes me not worry about championships too much at Nebraska. With the amount of cheating that is surely going on, I'd rather cleanly go 10-4 every year and occasionally contend for titles than win a dirty championship and be embarrassed by scandal.

  5.

I miss football so much I watched the whole stupid video. I'm re-ordering cable Wednesday. Hopefully I'll get it on time for the game...

I finally decided to start watching this video to see how good this kid is. He threw quite a few good balls and had some good moves against Boise in these "highlights." I assumed during that first drive that Wyoming must have scored a lot of points in this game.

14 points?!?! Is that what the kind of production Wyoming fan wants us to be afraid of?

  6. I expect 28 points in the first quarter. Literally. No smart ass. I literally expect the game to be over after 1 quarter.

I agree - Saturday will be an unveiling of the talent and speed we can expect to see all season, not a display of competitive football. It will be an old-fashioned ugly ass whoopin'.

  7. I think Affleck is turning into one of the better directors out there. The Town and Argo were pretty good, and Gone Baby Gone was outstanding, imo. But I think he's always been fairly lame as an actor, despite being in a few good movies.

I never saw Daredevil but have a hard time picturing him as a good superhero. I like Val Kilmer and George Clooney as actors much moreso than Affleck, and they couldn't pull off a good Batman, I might have some trouble taking him seriously in that role. He'd be better off sticking to directing.

  8. It's Bo's team. He can do what he wants. I don't have a problem with limiting media or former player access to practices. I do hope there are some legitimate reasons forthcoming about why this has apparently been extended/widened to include former players though. Pretty leery after the crap Cally pulled but am a lot more confident that Bo would only do this for very good reasons.

Too often the media and fans feel/act like they have a "right" to know everything that goes on in the program. We/they actually have no such right. There are tons of good and legitimate reasons to keep secret what could be viewed at a practice. But it's also a double edged sword. If you play it this way, you sure as hell better put a product on the field that is worthy of being kept under cover.

I do not know you so this is not a personal shot at you, but what you said here pretty much sums up the hypocrisy of a majority of the Nebraska fan base. And I think it is pretty disgusting how so many excuses are made for Bo when he does the same things that Callahan did.

There are some preeeety big differences between Pelini and Callahan though. Being competent at your job earns a lot of leeway. Besides, Callahan didn't just close practices, he took down pictures of previous eras and put them in storage, he shunned former players, he openly dissed Osborne, he trashed the walk-on program, and he lost a hell of a lot of games.

Closing practices is something most coaches do. The hyperbole about targeting former players is bunk. Bo has shown respect for tradition (unless you wanna argue about handing out blackshirts, lol) and has grown in his job, and is looked upon favorably by most of Husker nation. That's not to say Bo should be immune from criticism, we should be free to criticize as much as we want. But this is honestly not a big deal, and to compare him to Callahan because of it is downright silly.

  9. It's Bo's team.

Disagree. It's our team. Without us, he has no job. Without him, we'd have a different coach.

Who's the last recruit you signed?

What play have you ever called from the sideline?

What practice have you ever organized and ran?

What game plan of yours has the team ever executed?

Name one team/player issue you have ever directly dealt with.

If it's your/our team to control then you/we must've hired/retained Bo because he is here.

That is the context in which I stated "It's Bo's team".

Exactly... he is the CEO of this organization, but not the owner. He still answers to the shareholders, and sometimes it would seem that he could use a reminder of that.

LOL, you make it sound like Bo is some out of control power hungry lunatic who isn't doing his job. Bo's popularity/job approval is just fine, even if he did have to answer to shareholders, which he doesn't. Are you suggesting that the Athletic Department is a publically owned company?

Fans are not shareholders. They are customers.

  10. Bo Pelini recently banned all local media from Huskers practice until further notice. It's frustrating from a fan perspective hoping for any nugget of news about how our team is progressing. How common is this among major college programs? And do you see it as a positive or a negative thing in regard to how a program is seen on a national level?

    -- Chris, Omaha, Neb.

Unfortunately, for both media and fans, Pelini is by far in the majority. There are only a small handful of BCS-conference programs left that allow media to attend practice, and so I enjoyed this quote from Cal's Sonny Dykes -- one of the few exceptions -- to CBS' Jeremy Fowler: "I've never really understood why there's so much secrecy. From a philosophical standpoint, this is the University of Cal's football team. If people want to come see them practice or work out, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to do that."

It's not affecting anything on the national level because practically everyone's doing it, but fans of the respective teams are certainly losing out. The people who pay good money to attend the games and support the team deserve more detailed updates than their coach saying, "I was happy with the effort today" and "Things are coming along." How does the hot-shot freshman running back look in pads? Which defensive backs are running with the first string? This is enlightening and entirely harmless material. That's not to say the media should report every little detail they see. For example, a mother shouldn't have to find out on Twitter that her son left the field on crutches. And you're serving no one but the team's upcoming opponents to describe which plays they ran, how often they ran them and out of which formations. Ninety percent of working media understand that, but with today's constant churn of inexperienced reporters on every beat, someone inevitably screws it up for everybody else.

For all the paranoia, I've yet to hear a coach attribute a loss to some website's practice report. Meanwhile, in their attempt to control the flow of information, coaches only increase the likelihood of reckless rumors and speculation.

Hey I love practice reports and info about the team as much as the next guy, but how does this dude figure that anyone is entitled to more info? People who pay good money for a ticket deserve a seat in the stadium, and that's about it. Practice updates are for our curiosity and our human penchant for gossip, but a fan's support of a team doesn't entitle him or her to jack squat.

  11. I kinda got the creeps reading the first half of this article. I was expecting the writer to walk into one of these deserted buildings and find a bunch of bodies or something. Or finally find the lone resident, who never speaks but instead just carries a lantern and beckons him to follow her to an old cemetary.

I'm glad it had a happy ending, though.

  12. If the Journal Star gave the full text of the email, there is no indication that the message is targeting former players or anyone in particular. It's okay to have closed practices for a while without getting our collective panties in a bunch.

The thread title may as well be "Bo closes practice to HuskerBoard members, Kirk Herbstreit, and cancer patients." Just depends on what reaction we're looking for.

I cannot stress enough how much I recommend something like Ambien. I took it regularly for maybe a month, it reset my sleep cycle, and now I'm back to pretty normal sleep times and rarely take it anymore. Don't suffer from this if you don't have to. Talk to your doctor.

***Side effects include crashing your car into a tree, having your wife chase you with your own golf clubs, and failing to win a major golf tournament for five-plus years. Consult your physician.

Something as simple as Bendadryl often works for me, when I remember to take it in time. It is the exact same ingredient (diphenhydramine) in OTC sleep-aids. The only problem is I have to remember to take it well in advance of going to bed so it can run its course by the time I have to get up in the morning to avoid being a zombie.
