  1. I work in the child protective business and a hell of a lot of resources go towards working with families who cannot afford to provide for their kids. In fact you could say that a typical case includes parents (often a single parent) living in poverty with oodles of kids, often from multiple deadbeat fathers. I and each caseworker in our office have multiple cases with this situation.

It would actually save a ton of tax dollars in the long run in a lot of our cases to pay for a vasectomy for the fathers or tube-tying for the mothers who come into the system as opposed to the millions of dollars that we spend on services, casework, and foster care. In some cases, an un-anesthetized castration would be appropriate as well and would still save lots of money. But that sort of suggestion would only be caught up in legislative debate for years, I guess.

  2. I had a long drawn out response but realized that was unecessary. The main problem is that every football fan thinks they are are smarter than the next so sarcasm plays out alot in these boards. Honestly I regret even starting this thread. Wear red. Its funny that makes some peole feel like more of a fan than the guy wearing black. I didnt mean to offend anyone who wasnt being a sarcastic snob so take that for what its worth.

  3. Is there actual discussion still happening in this thread or are people just inserting the same sentences over and over again?

So no comment? Another straw man?

  4. Super Bowl: Seahawks vs Broncos

    Winner: Broncos

I would love this. I'm a Broncos fan, and last year the Seahawks became one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch.

What concerns me about the Broncos is injuries and depth.

  5. » Wide receiver Brandon Reilly: Has some Todd Peterson qualities to his physique, and probably better speed. Peterson had excellent hands, though. And Reilly has more competition for playing time.

With the star power we already have at receiver, does this Reilly kid really have a chance at playing time? I haven't heard anything else about him - anyone have more info?

  6.

So the players have no responsibility for anything because it's still the coaches fault when they screw up. At least we have that cleared up.

I am not a football coach or player, but I would opine that the players have a ton of responsibility (hard work, preparation, leading/motiviating/pushing teammates, etc), and obviously the players are the ones who have to make it work on the field, but the ultimately the buck stops with the coaches. The coaches, in addition to recruiting the players and teaching them, must hold them accountable from week to week or day to day, and help them correct mistakes. Indiviudal errors are on the players, but coaches still need to address it. Patterns of problems, such as frequent confusion on defense, or frequently missed blocking schemes, do fall on the coaches, as the players either need to be taught better, or if they do not respond, need to be sat on the bench and replaced in the game. It's certainly not a black and white issue; players and coaches share a lot of responsibility, but the coach is at the top of it all.

  7. If she's already pissed off, the following things will make it much worse:

    1. Asking her what's wrong.

    2. If she says nothing is wrong, but something is obviously wrong, asking her again.

    3. If she says nothing is wrong, but something is obviouisly wrong, taking her word for it and dropping it.

    4. If something is obviously wrong but I don't ask her about it.

    5. Trying to fix her problems.

    6. Not trying to fix her problems.

    7. Entering the room.

    8. Leaving the room.

    9. Trying to comfort her.

    10. Not trying to comfort her.

Avoid all of these, and you'll be fine.

  8. It sure is hard to imagine that replacing so many players on defense that this year could be the year.

That's one of the things that I love about the college game - so many pieces are continuously being replaced. But I'd rather replace several defensive starters than a four-year starter at QB. If this year is not "the year," it will be hard to predict when "the year" will ever come at all.

    THE TIME IS NOW!

  9. Either way it's on Bo, because both (recruiting/developing) matter....

I agree with this. Bo is ultimately responsible for the recruiting and the developing, so daignosing the exact reason for any shortcomings is just water-cooler fodder.

It's hard to measure anyway. What we saw out of Suh after Pelini came on board fueled his legend (which then sort of stalled because we haven't seen much greatness out of the D-Line in terms of recruiting or development since then), but part of the equation may just be maturity in players. Most players will hopefully get better from year to year anyway, as long as their coaches and teammates support them properly (sorry, Corey McKeon). Landlord above mentioned Jared Crick's emergence from 2008 to 2009. Well, Crick was a redshirt freshman in 2008, he should be getting much better the next year anyway.

    Just a layman's thoughts...

  10. I'm no longer concerned about the bottom falling out. If it was gonna happen, it woulda happened when Ohio St led 27-6 in the 3rd quarter in Lincoln. I honestly believed that was the end of Bo Pelini. I remember texting my brother saying "we're seeing an '07 type meltdown here. Not good at all".

I was had the exact same reaction at the time, and texted my own brother and friends almost the exact same message!

  11. Johnny Manziel would never have handed the football to Jack Hoffman.

Sure he would have. Right after he signed the football and Hoffman's jersey.

I think Manziel was the guy who bid all that money for the Jack Hoffman trading card but didn't pay.

  12. And I'm not trying to act like a bad ass. For those who met me in person at the tailgate probably came away with a pretty good perception of my as being quite a respectful individual.

I haven't met you, so I'm still going to assume you ARE a badass. Now go to North Platte and grab this guy by the scruff of the neck too.

  13. His team mates should fill a pillow case with bars of soap, sneak into his room at night, and "take care of" the insufferable little bastard.

His antics should not be compared to LP. What LP did was wrong and disturbing in it's own way but there isn't much I hate worse than someone who has the world in the palm of their hand but chooses to flip the finger to all those who made it possible. MDB just begins to scratch the surface. Somebody needs to kick him in the nuts......daily.

  14. I have no doubt that he'd have a lot of very loud defenders if he was a Husker. You'd hear terms like "witch hunt" and "media bias" in addition to rationalizing his behavior as a regular college kid. I agree with StPaulHusker that the coaches likely wouldn't let it have gotten this far in the first place, but it would be a tough situation to handle. I bet we'd be having some very heated debates here on Huskerboard over what to do with him and whether or not he is actually a major douchebag or just a misunderstood young man.

  15. Not to take too lightly the desires of a beloved family member...but his mom told him when he was 4 that she wanted him to be football player at KU. I would like to think we can overcome that. Surely if his mom were around today, she would realize that her son would have more success and more opportunity at Nebraska than Kansas.

When I was 4, I wanted to be an Ewok.
