  1. I don't get the passive agressiveness. You are a cop - why not issue a ticket or warning for a loud party and break it up as soon as you heard about it. If you were on duty until 2 a.m. and were able to drive by your own house to take care of the guy parked in your driveway, why not disperse the whole thing then unstead of going home later and calling different cops? Is there a conflict of interest issue with writing tickets on your own neighbor?

....................because I'm not going to confront 15 drunk dudes at 0245 in the morning about loud music, probably wouldn't go well.

Isn't this something you do as part of your job anyway, and that you could have done on duty just an hour earlier (or sooner since you were in the neighborhood anyway)?

And in the OP, you talk about selling your house to get away from this guy, the day after he moves in. To paraphrase Michael Bolton in Office Space, why should you have to change, he's the one who sucks! You have the intelligence and authority to stand up to this bozo, just do it and put the kibosh on his shenanigans.

My peace can't be disturbed while I'm on duty. Simply having a party isn't against the law, I would've needed someone to call and be dispatched to the loud party and then I could legally do something. I told my wife to call, but she didn't for whatever reason, she doesn't want to make waves. Also, confronting 15 dudes after I'm off work about being loud probably won't go well. I have A LOT of experience dealing with drunk a-holes and know when to do something and when not to do something. Having the on-duty cops show up to take care of the issue is the best thing I can do. I'm not going to go over there after work and speak with him in my uniform as that could be construed by some as me trying to intimidate him. That's not what I want to do, trust me calling the on-duty guys was the right thing. I can deal with the parking issues as I see them, I don't have to be called to those. Yes, it's confusing and a pain in the arse.

Ah, makes sense - no wonder it is so frustrating then!

  2. I would not wear a jersey myself, but I don't see the harm in someone wearing one on gameday. However, it seems weird and kinda creepy when an overweight, unathletic grown man (possibly with a cigarette) wears the name and number of a college kid half his age with whom he has no personal connection.

  3. As soon as the Super Bowl was over, I agreed with my wife to ditch our TV services, no cable, no satellite and save a few bucks. We have a Roku player for our TV so we can stream Netflix and Hulu (lots of other channels are available on Roku, but hardly anything worthwhile that doesn't cost extra). We have Internet of course also.

Now the time of year I have been dreading because I don't know how I will be able to watch Husker games at home. Friends and family are a pain, and sports bars are expensive, even though we have saved some money from losing the satellite.

I have researched how to watch live sports on Roku, but the only option I have seen is PlayOn, which I don't see many good reviews for.

Suggestions for how to watch the games?

Are there any legal Internet sites that stream the games (even for a small fee) without having a cable subscription?

  4. A good train between Lincoln and Omaha would be a great idea anyway, apart from football games. You have two downtown areas that are growing in vibrancy, two mid-sized cities that are growing toward each other anyway, a fair number of commuters between the two cities, and one city with a decent airport and one with a barely passable dinky piece of crap expensive airport. Party trains on gameday would just be icing on the cake for improving Lincoln's accessibility and relevance.

Hell, Lincoln even has a local manufacturer that builds commuter train cars (Kawasaki). Wouldn't it be great for the locals to be able to see and use first-hand what they have built?

  6. The 17-20 range seems to be the standard starting spot for Nebraska these days

    2012 - #17

    2011 - #10

    2010 - #8

    2009 - #24

How far back do you go to include "these days"? One year?

Well apparently so. Hell, I'm surprised I can remember that far back.

I guess 2012 is both the best and the worst Husker team I can remember.

  7. part of me thinking ohio state is going to drop like a 2012 USC...

Tell that part of you not to say things in public.

Just kidding. But seriously, they may drop a game or two, but I don't see many similarities to this year's Ohio State team and last year's USC team. USC had an absurdly over-hyped QB, and a couple legit WRs, but little else. I guess you might be onto something if Ohio State's depth is as non-existent as USC's. But more important than anything roster-related, there's a huge difference between Urban and Lane.

Yep, they are both douchebags, but at least Urban is a competent douchebag who knows how to coach.

  8. Not too controversial, I guess. The 17-20 range seems to be the standard starting spot for Nebraska these days, so #18 is just fine. We'll have opportunnities to move up.

I don't follow Kansas State, but why are they not on here? Doesn't Snyder get the benefit of the doubt at this point?

  9. Maybe that is how it is on this board. But, I know a few people who honestly want him gone as fast as possible because they truly think he totally sucks.

I've checked out other boards. I just couldn't stand the ignorance and either never joined or left after a while.

It's a wasteland out there for common sense Husker talk once you get past HuskerBoard.

That's because other boards don't have das knappic.

Thanks, but it has far more to do with people like saunders45, The Dude, zoogies, NUance, Bye Bye Big XII, True To The Red..... 10. I think most would agree that this Manziel kid needs a little bit of humility. But I guess if I was compared to FDR and was a protege of both Spiderman and Jesus, I'd probably be a little cocky, too.

  11. Oh i won't hide my disdain for T Magic as a QB.

    I can't stand Martinez as a QB.

Your opinion is fine. It's okay to argue about it and reasonable minds can disagree. However, if you don't like Martinez and he continues to start anyway, that's your problem. Quit trying to make it everyone else's problem, obviously most Husker fans feel pretty good about him.

  12. I had a criminal justice professor once say (this was back in 1997) that attorneys, on average, create a one million dollar drain each on the economy. He proposed giving each law school grad $100K right off the bat if they chose a different career, to reduce the number of lawyers and help the economy.

  13. The cause of the "economic collapse" of the legal profession isn't so much with the law schools themselves or the structure of the curriculum, but with the hordes of legitimately stupid people who are chasing the dream of being a "lawyer". Go to lawschoolnumbers.com or whatever it is and take a look at the profiles of a lot of the people on there, particularly those applying to T3-T4 schools. I wouldn't trust those people to clean my apartment yet alone to represent my in court. GPAs in the low 2s? LSATs in the low 140s? Yet these kids are getting in to law school. Of course, they have no legitimate credentials and when they graduate, they're lucky to get paralegal gigs.

This is true in some areas but it's not accurate in Nebraska . . .

I have heard from colleagues, although I do not know if it is actually true, that Nebraska has some of the lowest standards in the country for passing the bar.

I would believe it, I've seen some really pathetic attorneys. My last two jobs have been in professions where I work with many attorneys, and there are some total dunces out there.

  14. With all the comparisons to Bubba, I think another good comparison for the sake of perspective is Khiry Cooper. I can't remember what round he was drafted in before coming to NU (4th?), but he was offered a much smaller signing bonus ($200K?)and turned it down to play two sports at NU anyway. And he didn't amount to much in either sport. Turns out Khiry would have been better off taking the money and going to the minors, even though he wasn't offered Bubba money.

This Monte Harrison kid looks awesome, I sure hope he makes it here. But I'm afraid if I was him or his parents, I'd have to strongly consider any number that was offered, no matter what round it was.
