  1. What if we took Nebraska from 93-99?

We lost 2 games in 98, correct?

    Then 1 in 99?

    Won our conference in 99?

(I'm going off memory, so correct me if I'm wrong)

That would make us 85-6 in 7 years right?

That's badass and puts us at #1, methinks.

Hell, add in the 2000 season as well. Another 11-2 year. 96-8---am I wrong on those figures?

    We were 9-4 in 1998.

  2. From the article:

Lewis said he drank six glasses of wine, 10 beers and six shots of various other alcohols that night.

    :facepalm::wasted ..That's a lot of booze.

Wow, that much beer, wine and booze mixed together? I can't even imagine the hangover that would cause.

I can understand a guy being out and slamming beer after beer and shot after shot, but where does the wine come in? Is that a normal combination for kids these days?

  3. If you truly watched Nebraska six win streak, you know as well as I do that we were lucky several times, and could have been in that situation.

Wisconsin came to every game ready to play, improved on their game through out the season. I do not think you can say the same for Nebraska.

This looks like you are giving more credit to Wisconsin for their close losses and dismissing Nebraska's close victories. I'd much rather have the close wins myself.

Over the years, it always seems like Nebraska would be on the wrong side of luck, whether it be unlucky bounces of the ball, bad calls, or just some sort of freak play (like in every frickin game against Texas, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, etc). In 2012, we finally got those lucky bounces. I for one greatly enjoyed it and appreciated the thrills that Nebraska's season gave. It seems like Wisconsin's season was full of disappointments, except for one huge game in December.

  4. Any coach will take Will to Win over Better Statistics.

In the '94 Orange Bowl, Brook Berringer was handed the ball inside the Miami 10 and immediately threw a very stupid interception. Frazier came off the bench and simply willed the Huskers to win that game.

If Alex Henery had been on the '93 Huskers, he would have made that 40 yard field goal and everyone would remember how blatantly Tommie Frazier outplayed Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward.

Frazier never had great stats but everybody from ESPN to the Heisman Voters* to the Hall of Fame saw through it and gave Tommie his due as an all-time great. Tommie Frazier has never been underappreciated. Just as he's never been over-rated. Of all the pointless sports arguments (see our very own Ron Dayne vs. Mike Rozier thread) this is one that's already been put to bed.

    * I know this is a sore spot for some, but given Tommie's supporting cast and non-traditional Heisman stats, there was no shame coming in second.

You have a lot different recollection of that bowl game than I do. Frazier started the game and threw a stupid INT on our side of the field. Berringer drove us all the way down to Miami's 10 before throwing an INT. Frazier gave them a short field on his while Berringer gave them a long field. We won that game simply because TO never got rattled and the big boys in the trenches wore the superstars like Sapp and Lewis out. It was Frazier's poor play which resulted in him being on the bench and Berringer even being in the game.

I believe Berringer's interception came right after Nebraska was awarded the ball on the 4 after the Miami punter illegally kicked the ball thru the back of the endzone after chasing down a bad snap. It should have been a safety. Instead we were put into position to score an easy touchdown, but Berringer threw the pick on the first play. That was after Brook had been in the game for a while, including engineering the only touchdown drive of the first 3 quarters.

Edit: NUance beat me to it.

  5. Tommie Frazier is a great example of how stats don't always tell the story.

Frazier's stats in 1995 were paltry in comparison to the best seasons of other big-time performers. Hell, Taylor Martinez had DOUBLE the production in 2012 of Frazier's best year. How can anyone say that he was the best player in the country that year, let alone one of the all time greats? It must be some sort of mistake!

But if you actually watched him play, you know. There was no one better, and there is hardly any comparison. That's not just the homer in me talking, anyone who watched football in the 90s knew who the best was, and it wasn't hard to see.

  6. If Nebraska had beaten Miami in the Rose Bowl that night, we would all be tickled pink about it, but we fans would endure endless criticism from the rest of the world for not deserving to be there. I'm sure the trophy would be labeled as tainteed and would certianly not be held with the same regard as the others in the trophy case. It would probably be hard to brag about.

I'm sure Wisconsin absolutely loves the fact that they were able to win the CCG last year and that they will forever be the 2012 Big Ten champs. But they certainly know how they got there, and that doesn't mean it was an overall better season that Nebraska's; they just had a better ending.

Out of curiosity, I wonder how Ohio State and Penn State view Wisconsin's championship?

  7. 2109 is what he rushed in 1996 (as a freshman). 2034 is what he rushed for in 1999 (his Heisman Sr. Year). It's not hard to at least google information before responding so that you at least sound like you know what you were talking about. And the fact that Nebraska contended for national titles each of the three years Rozier was hear only proves he had a better team. In case you haven't been paying attention, everyone pointed out how much talent he had around him which took away from his production. And even though they contended for national titles each of the 3 seasons, how many national championships did they win......being there doesn't automatically make you better than the next RB. Adrian Peterson was the best RB in the NFL this year and yet Ray Rice was on the team team that WON the Super Bowl.

And I didn't even factor in Dayne's durability. I keep repeating myself because I continuously notice ignorant statements repeat by a different poster, regardless of how many times it was stated before that poster joined the conversation. I would have to repeat a thing if comprehension didn't lack as much in this conversation.

You're getting nice and frothy about this, awesome!

Bowl game stats were not included in the official numbers until 2002, so Dayne's stats never reflected 2000 yards during any one season. If those numbers were inlcuded, Rozier would be even closer to Dayne when you account for his entire college career. Rozier would have had an amazing 2300 yeard season in 1983 if that were the case, even surrounded by as much talent as he was. If you figure in Rozier's JUCO numbers(1157) and bowl games (340), his career total yards would amount to 6277 on a hell of a lot fewer carries than it took Dayne to reach 7125. (Note: Found different JUCO numebrs for Rozier on different sites. Anywhere between 1157 or 1316. I went with 1157 just to be safe.)

That really doesn't change anything in your whole argument, but it shrinks the gap between their numbers, and the 1500 yards difference you keep crowing about is quite false. If you are going to attach unofficial numbers to your boy without doing the same for Rozier, I guess he will look that much better. Why not add in receiving yards and kick return yards? Dayne had 304 of those. Rozier had 665. Add in bowl games, Rozier had 39 more receiving yards. Figuring in JUCO, bowl games, and all-purpose yards, Rozier gets 14 more touchdowns to his total as well. I don't know Ron Dayne's receiving numbers in bowl games or receiving touchdowns, you can look it up if you want.

So now, if you are relying so heavily on numbers, Rozier's true career total will have 6981 yards and 63 touchdowns. Dayne has 7429 yards and 71 TDs (plus whatever receiving he may have had in bowl games). That narrows your gap a little doesn't it? Those numbers are reflective of their entire college careers, which you are so hung up on. Not too much difference, with a hell of a lot fewer touches for Rozier, while Rozier's teams enjoyed more success.

Now you got me all worked up, dammit. But if you look at all that and still think Dayne's career was that much better, well "that's cute." Just please stop posting the same crap over and over. There are quote functions or copy and paste for that.

  8. My wife can't load the dishwasher.

She just puts bowls and glasses in random chaotic order so that you can't fit other stuff in without rearranging the whole thing. She'll put a mixing bowl upside down in the center of the rack, taking up the whole thing when it will fit sideways on the side. She'll put glasses in the bottom rack when the top rack is still empty, leading her to put plates in the bottom rack diagonally. I open up the damn dishwasher and have to rearrange it so we can fit in twice as much stuff.

At first I thought she did it on purpose in a passive aggressive effort to just get me to do the dishes instead. But no, she goes out of her way to load the dishes whenever she can and is a habitual cleaner/picker-upper, she just does it poorly when it comes to the dishawsher. My wife has a PhD, is a college professor, is an artist and conducts research in "the aesthetic experience" for gods sake, does jigsaw puzzles as a hobby, and is obsessed with organization. All these factors should make someone an absolute pro in the field of dishwasher loading, but nope. She just can't do it. I don't understand.

  9. If Rozier scored 21 more TDs than he did, would you say his career is even better. If he ran for 1500 more yards would you say his career was even better. Yes you would. So why is it so much energy is being spent trying to make it seem like another RB who accomplished the same things that Rozier accomplished but ran for more yards and TDs is not a better career. I know this argument would have went this long if Ron Dayne's name was replaced with Rex Burkhead or Marlon Lucky, or Dan Alexander or some other RB who played for NU. No one wants to admit that another back at another school could have had a better career than a Husker who had the best year of all Husker RBs.......I'm not saying he's not a great back. I'm not saying Dayne is a better back.......I simply stated that his career was better and that he deserved to highlight the HOF class as much as anyone else who has.

So, list of all time best running backs in CFB history, ranked by quality of career, not by most talented:

    1. Mike Rozier

    2. Rex Burkhead

    3. Marlon Lucky

    4. Dan Alexander

    .....

    39+. Ron Dayne

    That's more like it.

  10. I wonder how each would've done if the teams were reversed---if T-Mart played on the 90s teams and Tommie was playing today? We might be speaking of Martinez in a different light.

If they played on opposite teams, Bo would have at least 2 Conf Championships. Martinez wouldn't have been the starting QB on Tommie's team. He'd of been back up to Berringer just off the mental aspect alone, not counting his talent at putting the ball on the ground. Honestly, I think he probably would have been playing WR.

I LOL trying to picture Martinez blocking as a WR in Osborne's offense! He probably would have been a DB.

If he can't block, he definitely won't tackle....

Oh, yeah, there's that. He probably just would have sat and then transferred to Kentucky or Northern Iowa instead.

  11. What did Rozier accomplish that Dayne did not.

He had a 2000 yard season and his teams were National Champioship contenders every year he was on campus. Those were things Dayne cannot claim.

To be fair, Ron Dayne's overall durability and the career rushing record are things that Rozier can't claim, and Dayne lifted his team to higher rankings each consecutive year. It's almost a wash, really, but everyone's opinions have been stated. Why keep repeating yourself over and over?

  13. What is unclear is what determines a 'lifestyle' vs. a 'behavior' or an 'act'?

I suppose some would consider it a "lifestyle" if you kept "shoving it in everyone's face," or if demanding "special rights" or laws instead of keeping it to yourself, or if you insisted on redifining our sacred societal institutions. Or are those hallmarks of an "agenda" instead? It's hard to keep the silly arguments straight, so to speak.

    Thank you for sharing.

What do you mean by demanding "special rights" or laws?

How is the definition of your married redefined by 2 women getting married?

Can you provide an example of that you describe as "shoving it in everyone's face,"?

    Thanks. I appreciate you input.

I was being sarcastic brah, hence the line about keeping the silly arguments straight.

Anyone who uses those homophobic terms above are clearly full of crap, yet they have been common arguments in favor of continued discrimination.

So calm down, we're on the same side.

  14. The success of the 90's plays a big part in how we feel today. We got accustomed to winning big and winning championships. Until we see that dominance again, fans will not be satisfied with the wins.

On the flipside of that, the Callahan years helped me realize that there was more to life than whether or not the Huskers win or lose football games. At one time, any loss was incomprehensible, and even close wins were cause for grumpiness. But after Callahan, I learned to shrug off a loss and get on with the rest of my day, and I enjoy football games for the overall entertainment value.

Part of me mourns the loss of the passion I once had and the dominance that used to be on display in the 90s, but mostly I can appreciate the magic that was captured during those times and still enjoy what we get to see today without having a loss ruin my weekend. Still a diehard fan, but I gotta admit, I like it better this way. It's healthier!

  15. I don't know all that much about basketball, but I think this is a situation that will take some time. Tim Miles isn't like Bob Huggins landing at Kansas State - Huggins was already a big name in coaching circles and able to get some big time recruits immediately. Miles is still an up and comer; we haven't seen what he is truly capable of. With his first class of recruits redshirted and ready to play this fall, with a sold-out brand spankin' new arena, there will be opportunities to open eyes that Miles simply couldn't do in his first year, aside from the energy he brings.

Some programs can have quick turnarounds, but since Nebraska is a basketball never-has-been, a little momentum will probably need to be built before expecting any huge recruiting splashes.

  16. Sounds like several people are defending Wisconsin based on their losses being close. Nebraska had a lot of close games too, but WE WON THEM.

Sure, the CCG was embarrasing, and championships mean a lot, but even the UCLA and Georgia losses were entertaining games. And we won 10 others. 2012 was one of the most entertaining seasons I've ever seen out of Husker football, and some here would rather go with a team that couldn't even win 9 games?

Colorado used to base their entire season on how well they could stack up against Nebraska. To me, hanging your hat on a CCG win by Wisconsin where they backed in by default, when they otherwise had a miserable season, is being too much like the Colorado fans of old.

Kudos to Wiscy for getting that conference championship and playing in the Rose Bowl. That really, really hurts. But taking the season as a whole? The answer is simple: Go Big Red.

  17. Guarantee the same guys saying they would take Wisconsin season, would be screaming for Bo to be fired if that was the case. There argument would be 6 losses is unacceptable, we got to the CCG on a technicality, a blowout win in the CCG wouldn't make up for a Rose Bowl loss, Bo can't win the big ones.

Personally, the way I see it, both seasons were failures. Nebraska's losses were embarrassing, and Wisconsin lost 6 and shouldn't have even been in the CCG.

    This.

I can't believe so many people are voting for Wisconsin's season. We shouldn't be happy with the embarrasing nature of Nebraska's losses by any means, but Wisconsin's record doesn't even meet the minimum standard for most long-time Husker fans.

    1. Should an employer be allowed to fire an employee for getting a divorce?
    2. Should an employer be allowed to fire an a male employee for living with his girlfriend (or a female employee for living with her boyfriend)?

Both are perfectly legal, even removing the church from the discussion.

Would #1 not fall under "Marital Status" in the Nebraska Fair Employment Practice Act?

  19. The more I read about Spring Practice, and I know its still way early, the more excited I get about the 2013 season. The Program that is Nebraska Football is teaching boys how to become men. You can see it in their eyes, the way they talk. I know not a lot it being said to the media, but it's not "I am, I am gonna, I will.." Its "We". The only I that I have seen is "How will I work to the best of my abilities to help the team".

Nebraska's defense is rising to the challenge of Bo Pelini and their expectations, and they may surpass them too. 2013 could/should be a rebirth in my opinion and I would love to be right, of the 1983 Scoring Explosion. The major difference could be a Defense to back it up. Call it what you want. Too much Kool Aid, wishful thinking or whatever. But I am supporting this Cornhusker Team with pride for where they have been, and what they are about to become.

I used to get that way every spring for years and years but have learned to ignore that feeling after too much coach-speak, spring game stars who never see the field in the fall, and bluster from bored journalists. I actually do feel that this year is going to be a really good one, but don't read too much into spring practice reports.

Oh...what the hell...I used to feel the way you did and then I realized it is a lot more fun to get excited and overly optimistic. To me, that is part of being a fan. So, I throw caution to the wind and eat it all up.

    I'm pumped for next year!!!!

You're probably more exciting to hang around with than I am. :nanalama
