Trump is so damn clueless on these issues.

While it is understandable that Trump is worried about Double Jeopardy, Rudy has assured him that he will have a chance to win it back during Final Jeopardy. People are saying that he will make the most perfect wager anyone has ever seen.

So here is Deion hawking sweatshirts. This makes me think of a few things...

    1. CU is so irrelevant as a brand, that they need the flashy new coach to put his name on march to sell anything. It's working for now, I guess.

    2. CU is so broke that they need Deion to tweet informercials to sell merch in order to raise funds. We have already heard that they didn't have enough $$$ to pay his salary and they don't really have an NIL program.

    3. To the extent that Deion is doing everything that he can to give a rub to CU and draw some attention, it is somewhat admirable I guess. He is working hard in the best way that he knows how: self-promotion.

    4. Deion's whole tenure at CU is going to be about Deion, not about CU. That may attract some kids in the short term but there is no way this ends well for CU as an institution. No one cares about CU, they just want to see Prime Time.

    5. F&#K CU.

In the end, I'm perfectly fine with how fast he has filled out his staff.  Not something to be concerned about, in my opinion.

Rhule must see something we don't and we just have to trust him on that judgement. Hopefully the O-line is improved but only time will tell.

The bold it where I think you are missing the point somewhat.  Rhule comes across as a guy who knows the scheme he wants to run and will hire accordingly. Period.  This won't be the DC's scheme or the OC's scheme - it will be Rhule's schemes.

    Thanks, fellas. I'll remain hopeful.

  4. I have a few concerns, maybe someone who knows coaching better than I do can help me understand...

Rhule was fired from Carolina on October 10. In the month and a half that followed, I would have assumed that he would have been compiling lists of potential assistants and reaching out to his well-connected buddies to gauge interest in joining him if he got a new job. Obviously, other coaches would not be able to commit to him in the middle of a season when he didn't even have a new job yet, but I would have thought Rhule would have had time to make his list, check it twice, and know who his plan A, B, and C would be for each spot.

Which is why the OL coach position is baffling. There is no way in hell Rhule was sitting back this fall with Raiola on his hot list of OL candidates. DR has not worked with Rhule, does not have a ton of proven experience, and the OL was absolute garbage this year. To the extent that it takes time to remold and teach an OL, let alone recruit the kids you need, I get it. But we have also seen time and time again across the college football landscape that a new coach can make an immediate difference. Didn't see that with the OL this year. I have concerns.

Regarding the Defensive Coordinator, again I would have assumed Rhule would have had lists of candidates right out of the gate. But the rest of the defensive staff was in place before the Coordinator. Does that seem backwards? Did the DC not have input into his own staff? I mean, the DC seems like a good choice, but if his fellow assistants were hired without knowing what the DC's scheme was going to be...I have concerns.

And the WR coach...I'm sure the Mickey situation threw a big monkey wrench into things. But while Rhule was sitting around in October and November not knowing for sure if Nebraska would be his destination, didn't he have a list of other WR candidates?

Rhule is a proven college coach, and I am hopeful and optimistic that the Huskers will be relevant again in the next few years, but I am pretty damn nervous about all of this.

This list is kinda dumb.  They have the University of Illinois - Urbana listed as "public Ivy".  I dated a girl who went there and met a bunch of her friends.  From knowing them I'm  pretty sure the lone question on the entrance exam was "do you have a pulse".

I used to work at a Public Ivy, and they tried to squeeze a hell of a lot of juice from that designation. The school was a pretty good academic institution in reality, but seeing "Public Ivy" all over the place (marketing emails, banners on light poles around campus, mentioned in administrator speeches) really felt like they were trying to hard to make that mean something.

This thread has also unfortunately re-established something we've all seen before - there are pockets of the fan base that would rather be right than to see Nebraska succeed. Or, at the very least, they act like this is how they feel.

I've said the following several times in recent months, but I think it's worth repeating - this is why we play the games. Fans have a habit of either overly celebrating, or being devastated by, things that happen in the off-season. And many Nebraska fans have latched on this and become exceptionally good at competing for offseason national championships in the last couple decades.

I'm continuously amazed at how people let something like Deion Sanders going to Colorado get under their skin, while less sexy/dramatic programs like friggin Purdue are competing for conference titles.

You forgot to say f#%k Colorado.

The funny thing here is the posters who with near certainty think Sanders will succeed at the highest level at CU.

The funny thing to me, well actually the disgusting thing, is that we have Husker fans (and non-fans/trolls visiting us as well) in here fawning all over freaking Colorado's coach.

Regardless of who CU's coach is...this is Huskerboard. F&cK Colorado.

Listen, I'm not saying we can't talk about other teams, other coaches, or whatever, and the coaching carousel has certainly kept us all entertained this season, but the bottom line is...F&CK COLORADO.

From everything I've read on this, Riley Washington asked Osborne to hold a handgun for him and Osborne obliged until he found out the weapon may have been used to commit a murder and then he (Osborne) notified the police. This is completely different than the narrative you are pushing.

    Wait, wait, wait....

First of all, someone correct me if wrong, wasn't it Tyrone Williams, not Washington, who had the gun that TO locked away? Secondly, the way you write this, it sounds like a totally casual thing for a player to go to a coach and ask him to hold on to a freaking handgun for him. Even if we knew no other information, that is suspicious as hell and no responsible adult would simply hold onto a gun for a college player who asks him to.

What have you read that is different than this narrative? Link?

For all of those questioning TOs ethics, please consider the time frame those things happened and what the national standards were.  We are living in a different day and age and the standards by which we are judging him and his actions weren't the norm back then.  Part of being a coach is being a mentor and sometimes that includes helping young people through the toughest times.  I don't have stats to back it up but my guess is he helped a lot more that we have never heard about than he ever let slip through the cracks and covered up for.  True or not, the boys who played for him believed he had the best of intentions, especially in those rough times.

There is no doubt that TO helped a lot of people and did lots of good things. But do you think it is okay to cover up violent crimes as long as you have good intentions and if you happened to have helped other people?

Can NIL be used for a student in the band or a cheer leader?  An outstanding academic student that markets themselves well on social media?  Or just for athletes?

These students are not regulated by the NCAA (well, maybe cheerleaders, I don’t know), so their status as amateurs never would have been threatened by making money off their likenesses in the first place.

I mean, I was in the band and good at academics but was simply too humble and studious to cash in on my incredible fame and good looks while I was in school.

But I kind of wonder if part of the interview process was Alberts leaning on the prospective coaches (maybe even as a part of the contract itself) to commit to a simpler power-based run game scheme on offense.

Because even if it doesn't work, it placates the boomers (who almost certainly make up the lion's share of the booster community) and a good percentage of season ticket holders.

It kind of seems like Rhule went out of his way to make it clear he wasn't going to "be a spread offense." I fully realize this doesn't mean he won't snap plays out of the spread, I get that.

I would guess that perhaps Rhule was reading the room better and smarter than most of our coaches over the past 20 years, and hopefully is not so stubborn that he will try to force a square peg into a round hole as most of our coaches have done over the past 20 years.

In fact, that makes me think of Joe Dailey, who was one of Rhule's assistants at Carolina. I wonder if Dailey talked to Rhule about his experiences at Nebraska, being recruited to play one system, but then a new coach trying to force him and the entire offense into something that the personnel was not suited for.

This is why I think Nelson gets such a pass from so many.  People so badly want to see the small town Nebraska kid play for them.  Its great that he does those things but that doesnt win games.  Look at Michigan, Wisconsin, and other top defenses in the country.   Does Garrett see their two deep?

Nelson has always put off the vibe of being a fiery vocal leader, which have been in short supply. Sure, he is not an elite player on the national level and may not be on the 2-deep on the top defenses in the country. However, for the time being, he is still one of our 11 best and still will be until Rhule has an opportunity to bring in new players. With his senior year coming up, and Rhule just starting a longterm rebuilding project, Garrett Nelson still has a lot of value on this team. I personally hope he stays.

I didn't remember this. But I suppose if it was an issue of transphobia that got them suspended, it is no surprise that archy would come to their defense.

I think they should be held to the same standards as other similar accounts.

and what are those standards? Please elaborate. I might also argue that there is no "similar account" to Donald Trump based on the position he holds and his influence over his followers and over the media.

Tell me why an account like the Babylon Bee should be suspended?  Tell me why accounts that questioned or flat out denied the election should be suspended however misguided they were without any acts of violence called for by them?

I honestly don't remember why the Babylon Bee got suspended from Twitter. I thought it was pretty well understood that they are a comedy/satire account. Stemming from knapplc's post above (edit: and Lorewarn's post): did they play around with hate speech? Did they take it too far? I really don't know and don't care enough about the BB to look it up.

How is that different than the federal government providing knowingly false information in regards to Covid in order to move an agenda?  How is that different than national news organizations tweeting lies and not being suspended?

Wait, what are you actually advocating for? If you think Trump and his ilk should be given a platform for their BS, then why do you care about other lies? If you think government and journalism should be held accountable, then why are you re-posting James Woods crying over Trump being oppressed?

I happen to think that accuracy and truth from our government and from the press is pretty damn important, and is fading away. Lies, bias, and inaccuracies should be called out. At the same time we should try to discern between intentional lies and mistakes, and implicit bias vs blatant divisiveness. It can all be harmful it a number of ways, and we should be wary of all of it. But I think we can afford to be a little more wary of the lies and hate that have a tendency to lead to violence and oppression. Not all lies are equivalent.

Okay...what did they say that were lies? or hate? Provide examples and we can discuss and compare.

You had posted one thing a couple weeks which included Tlaib saying something antisemitic, which most on this board (including me) agreed was an offensive thing to say, and she was appropriately called out by her own party. Yet, I don't recall you providing other examples after numerous requests.

He has clearly been vocal about the Bee suspension :dunno

He clearly wants people like the ex-president and others that were suspended to have the same treatment as other accounts doing the same thing who the previous twit mods aligned with.   Many of those who “actively spread lies and hate” that you don’t seem to have much of a problem with based on your lack of voice to ban those accounts.

So to funhuskers question with a tweak: why do you want one sides “hate and lies” to have a voice but not the others?

I don't want anyone to spread lies or hate. I don't think I've ever spoken up about banning anyone's twitter accounts before. Obviously Trump has a loyal following and causes more damage than any one single person with his lies and divisiveness, but can you provide examples of the "hate and lies" that you think I don't have a problem with? Since you said "many" I'm sure you can provide several examples.

You also conveniently avoided answering the question the way you often do. Let's try again: Why do you think Trump and his followers should have a wider platform to promote their lies and hate?
