  1. Nebraska Harry, at least I'm not afraid to go against the grain and have an original thought... you, on the other hand, are the biggest follower on this entire board. All you do is go along with the popular opinion and then act like you know something.

Then I saw, "NEBRASKA 84, MINNESOTA 13." At that moment, I instantly became an NU fan... ~ FLU

Haha sure whatever you say, man. I'm a follower because I'd rather see where the season takes us since we're only TWO games in. Who knows maybe I'll want Bo fired come end of season. Maybe I'll think give that man a raise. At least I'm not irrational like you.

  2. I don't know what the BMI's are for our defensive tackles, but Rome is listed at 285 and many would consider that undersized for a DT, especially in a two gap system.

With how often Dobson and our S&C staff are lauded for being great, I have a tough time believing our players are "slow and weak." Of course, this line of thinking completely contradicts that our guys do in fact look slow and weak.

I'm not sure that we don't have strong players, but one thing I've noticed is when it comes to agility we are lacking. Suh was 300lbs but played soccer growing up. Had great foot work to go with his strength. So I just wonder how much agility training we do? Cause I have no idea. Maybe we do a lot for all I know.

  3. I for one am amazed this message board of which I'm a member has so many genius coaches! I'm so lucky!

You know what, there are a lot of Husker fans who do know a great deal about football.

Certainly enough to know that 600+ allowed, the most since 1956, is a BIG deal.

And heck who knows maybe we'll see defensive changes that many have mentioned on here they'd like to see. It's fun to talk about and it kind of makes a guy feel better.

  4. I always prefer the guys who absolutely obliterate someone and then stand up still looking angry, with no celebration. I just think that's way more intimidating for the opposing offense. Like, the defender who just knocked every centimeter of air out of him not only expected that to happen, he expects it all night long so it's not even worth celebrating.

The defense had a Jekyll and Hyde game, just like the offense. Honestly, and I don't spend nights laying awake thinking about it, but I do kind of feel like throwing the bones after getting run over roughshod for at least half the game is a little much. Maybe reserve that for a 2010 Oklahoma performance, something like that. Conversely, Compton played a good game, and he was putting out effort all game. I have no problem with Will Compton throwing the bones. He has turned into a dependable LB. He's not an AA, but he'll give us everything he has, and he'll make some plays. Throw 'em all you want Will.

I DID happen to see Meredith do it at one point late (on an assisted tackle, not a solo) and I'll admit that drew a bit of a sneer.

Then again, I've never smashed a RB on third down to force the punt. It's an emotional game, and I can understand excitement bubbling over. Hell, I've pumped my fist like I was Tiger at Augusta after hitting a triple twenty in a meaningless dart league game, so who am I to say anything about a little pose after delivering a hit that matters? It's a lot better than that UCLA kid celebrating 30 seconds into the game after making a three yard reception for a first down.

    This ^^^

  5. Look at Bama and LSU and USC -- those are great recruits. And don't give me any BS about how hard it is to get kids to come to Lincoln, because neither Baton Rouge nor Tuscaloosa have anything that Lincoln doesn't have. The difference is that their programs have coaches who kids want to play for, and they don't care where the school is located. I have no doubt that if Saban began coaching in Alaska, he'd still finish in the Top 5 for recruiting.

So, I started reading this thread just for the fun of it, and then i saw this, and i lol'd. I think you need to look at high school football in Louisiana and Alabama, and compare it with Nebraska.

If you can't see the difference, you're retarded.

Tack on that last part as well and that's why I've had a hard time taking this guy seriously.

  6. Apparenly you guys are content and satisfied with our current status. I'm not.

Whoa nobody said that.. Now your making assumptions. We want better. The difference is some of us don't go chattering about looking for hypothetical coaches two games into the season. We'd rather ride the ship we're on now and see where we land at seasons end.

  7. but what if, let us just say we win 11 games this season, hypothetically. then what?

If that happens, I'll leave this board forever.

that would be the worst time to leave. stick around, especially if that does happen.

And I'll be man enough to admit I was wrong. And if they achieve 8 wins or less, like I predicted before the season, will you (or any of these others) be willing to do the same?

Nope because it was all hypothetical.

Look I never made any predictions. We're 2... 2 games in.

  8. but what if, let us just say we win 11 games this season, hypothetically. then what?

  9. so if we need another coach, we should get one. one that is better than bo and top of their field. good thread

But sadly, we'll never be able to get someone better, so I've been told, so therefore we are stuck wsith mediocrity forever, and can only hope and pray that Bo will improve and somehow change his national image and learn how to recruit.

How do we know that guys like Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson would do well at Lincoln?

  10. So what you're saying is we should NOT fire Bo Pelini?.. If so your only point this whole time was to say that we should consider other coaches, but not fire Bo Pelini?

    Dude, you're killin me here.

This is all HYPOTHETICALLY speaking. No we should NOT fire Bo, that would be plain stupid. We are talking about IF he starts going backwards and does end up getting fired somewhee vown the road.

Hypothetically we could win the Big 10 and play UCLA in the Rose Bowl.

  11. NebraskaHarry no offense but you are totally clueless. Nobody said anything about firing. If Bo doesn't achieve 9 wins this year, and doesn't again next year, and you don't think his seat will be hot, then I don't know what to tell you. Stop being a follower and have an original thought for once.

So what you're saying is we should NOT fire Bo Pelini?.. If so your only point this whole time was to say that we should consider other coaches, but not fire Bo Pelini?

Nothing personal but nobody had to say anything about firing when your talking about other head coaches... it makes it kind of obvious.

  13. FLU we're 2 games in the season and you say it's time to hire a new coach or hypothetically as you say if we get below 9 wins. But I threw you a hypothetical in another thread about winning 11 games this season and what that means and you totally blew it off. How bout getting to 6 games before we even start this conversation about new coaches.

  14. :sarcasm:dunno

I appreciate your concern. Without your timely, well thought out response, I met have kept going on this forvever

I'm done, I'm on the Travel Squad now, I don't have to deal with this. > :(

What will we do without your valuable input and timely musings?

    Easy walksalone easy.

Hahaha. If you honestly believe what you said right there.... I must respectively say you might be kinda stupid... respectfully of course.

Please let me know what Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa have that Lincoln doesn't. Please tell me.

Closer to home for the elite players, elite coaches, not a complete culture change from their everyday lives.

And baton rouge is a damn nice town, i love baton rouge.

    better food for one thing.

    what they said.

  17. We could have really used a guy like Josh Banderas out there at LB with his 110 meter hurdle track speed.

    and

We could have really used a guy like Vincent Valentine out there at DT to plug, push, and stop the run.

    Hopefully the future is brighter.

  18. Cool story, bro.

However, living in Baton Rouge, how am I supposed to convince my son to be a Nebraska fan, when on one channel Nebraska is getting torched by UCLA, and on the other channel, LSU is stomping a mudhole into the Washington Huskies?

Could use please keep your negative Nancy attitude to yourself for just a bit. It's too bad our D didn't play well, we didn't win, all that. But let me throw you a hypothetical because well it is only the second game of the season. Lets say UCLA only loses twice all year, a top 10 offense.. And Nebraska some how wins 11 games and makes it to the Big 10 championship game, maybe even wins it... Is your attitude going to be the same? Yes or No to that question, either way you have a serious problem. If you want to give constructive criticism and say we should have done this and this and why, sure that's great. Lament away. But to whine and moan... Time to grow up man. If you can't get your son to root for Nebraska because they don't win every game every year.. that's your problem. Welcome to reality.

And before you get on your "well if that's what you expect Nebraska to be speech", I'll just tell you no now. The way we played last night was not great, but before I go making any decisions on whether we need to rid our coach, I'll wait until we get a bit further into our season. So relax.

    Will never, ever happen.

Sounds to me like you're the one who needs the reality check...

    That's why it's called a hypothetical.

  20. Our DB's are not the problem. Our D linemen can't get off blocks and Compton and Whaley are too slow to run with receivers and runningbacks. If I had a lineup right now based off of who should be playing.

    DE - Ankrah

DT - (I dunno they are all pretty bad, I'd almost consider burning Valentine's RS but I wouldn't want too. Take your pick I guess)

    DE - Martin

    OLB/Hybrid -Cooper

    MLB - Compton

MLB - Santos/Whaley/and whatever happend to Roach?

OLB/Nickle - Jackson/Evans, Rose/Santos (why isn't Santos on the field? or am I just not seeing him?

    Corner - Green/Stanley-Baptise

    Corner - Mitchell/Seisay

    Safety - Stafford/Jackson

    Safety - Smith/Jackson

The point is our DL is sooooooo soft I'd rather we add another guy somewhere else to compensate for that horrible play and in hopes that Compton and Whaley won't have to run around as much chasing Runningbacks and Receivers and focus more on stuffing the middle and protecting the middle of the field.

  21. Ignore trolls and they go away.

Sometimes trolls are good to counteract the Kool Aid.

Over the years, I've noticed my fellow Big Red online fans have become very arrogant. They rip other teams and conferences while looking at DONU with Big Red Rose Colored Glasses. Well, we got whipped by a bottom dweller from that crappy conference on the West Coast. It's time to come to the realization that DONU is just another program. The past is past and we are no longer elite. We left the elite club in 2001. I'm not saying we can't get back, but ...

UNL is beginning to remind me of my alma mater, Oregon State, in many regards. OSU's basketball team was the 8th winningest program in 1989. Then our Hall of Fame coach retired. Corvallis, like Lincoln, is a bit of a hard sell to top recruits who want to go to cities with great weather, etc. Since 1989, OSU has had 4 winning seasons and have sunk to the 18th winningest program. Obviously UNL has done much better since Osborne left, but we haven't had any seasons that were Osborne-esqe either. I just have this feeling we, UNL, aren't going to get back into the elite status mode until we hire established coaches that kids want to come play for.

First thing we do is switch to Nike. Who's with me?!?!

  22. It is amazing how so many people here go on suicide watch after games like this... Personally I find these games to make me a better coach. Our defensive front 4 is soft. So lets go to a soft front 3 and play a 3-4. Play Cooper and the next most fast big guy for our outside LB's. Plug Compton and another big LB in the middle for main run support and here ya go. UCLA gutted us on the outside all game with speed. We're just too slow.
