  1. Last year's average attendance at Memorial in Lincoln was 85,267. Capacity may be listed at 81K, but we can put (and always do) put more in the stadium.

Who knows if this will be the largest crowd O'Brien's played in front of. Frankly, who cares? He doesn't worry me as much as this other guy, he's kinda good, a real baller... name of Montee Ball. You all may have heard of him.

I'm pretty certain Ball and the rest of the Badgers have played in front of larger crowds than we'll have in Memorial Stadium.

What we need to do is make it the loudest crowd they've played in front of. I plan on doing my part.

    This. This + 85,000 more.

  2. Comparing Martinez's freshmen and sophomore years we can at least say there wasn't a digression. Sure some may say his passing took a step back, but even playing on that not 100% recovered turf toe and ankle sprain the stats are pretty similar. So I would say that his passing is a push. Neither went up nor down.. just a poor passing motion. But he made progress in managing the game with fewer turnovers, ect. This isn't all on Martinez though. If the whole team gets better as a unit, defensively, receivers catching balls, fewer mental mistakes, better o-line play... LOOK OUT!... This could be fun.

  3. I have said for a while I think they need to add some kind of ramp to get people in and out at the top of South and North Stadium. It is a nightmare to get in and out of the higher up segments of these two stadiums.

Although I think it would be structurally impossible to actually connect all four stadiums technically but I don't think you would have to depending on what you want to accomplish. If the motivation is to make it more aesthetically pleasing and to keep the sound in I would think you could construct some kind of wrap to connect the press box (west stadium) to the north suites and then the north to the east and then if they put suites on the south they could connect the east and west to the south as well.

West, North, and East were connected when they did the North Stadium expansion. They are not connected via bleachers, but they are connected via the main concourse inside.

Yeah it is possible to walk around the stadium but I think the poster above that asked the question was thinking of having the bleachers being continuous with each other much like they are at Oklahoma St etc. I don't think structurally that would be possible. I would be for making it more enclosed in terms of keeping the sound in though. If you could put a roof type structure (like they have in Washington) and fill in the corners with a curved structure to keep that sound in oh man 92,000 fans would sure have a bigger impact on the play on the field.

I think we're going to see a big difference in how loud it can get this season with what we've got done. A lot of blue hair hearing aids are gonna be on the fritz I hope.

  4. We wont know anything about Taylor Martinezs improvement until he is flushed out of the pocket. To this point he has not been a dual threat QB. He has been ineffective in making the defense respect even his "scramble" ability. He is quite the anomolly in that he is a running QB that cannot scramble or throw on the run. I hope this year we let him throw more 3 step verticals to stretch the defense and lift the safeties out of the box. The coaching staff has to take some responsibility for his development, but ultimately he is what he is. Its up to the coaching staff to bulster his positive traits and conceal his negative ones. We probably wont win more than 9 or 10 games with him at QB because there are parts if the field we cannot attack offensively. Yes, 9 or 10 games is a good season but it will never be a championship season. Aren't we trying to win a championship?

So when teams were putting 8-9 guys in the box because they weren't afraid he'd take off and run? Didn't Martinez have 800 + rushing yards seasons both his freshmen and sophomore years? He had over 2000 yards passing last season as well. Seems like a dual threat quarterback to me.

It's pretty obvious you don't care for Martinez at QB even though he's the best QB on the team and is why he's the starter.

We're trying to win a championship you know.

  5. This really shouldn't be even discussed. Martinez is better then Carnes and he's definitely better than Jamal Lord ever was. End of story.

You'll get to see Carnes during the Idaho St. game for sure so you've got that to look forward too.

  6. Just joined the "Board" today, since the Journal-Star has messed up the lifeinthered blog. Hi to everyone here, I've checked this board in the past and it seems to have honest opions of true Husker fans.

I'll start this out with something that won't make everyone happy, but I think where Peter is coming from is the fact that Coach Bo still has serious issues dealing with the general public and sportswriters/media in particular.

Watch yesterday's post-practice interview and this is so obvious, it's like he thinks he's on trial for something.

I do have some knowledge of his behavior in public and private that has not always been wonderful, but I also know one of his past players who just loves Bo. So what to make from all this?

Losing control of your emotions on the sideline is an indication of passion for the game, but being a jerk in public indicates someone needs some serious counseling. Maybe Dr. Tom has had Bo get some help with this, but in watching that interview yesterday - I doubt it.

I see where you're coming from. I watched the video too, but after 4 years that's just who Bo is. He's not going to be chipper old jolly santa clause when he's doing interviews. Personally I'm okay with that. For other people, media and what not, not so much.

  7. Interesting column about Wisconsin HC Bret Bielema.

I like this quote (too bad Bo doesn't feel the same way as Bielema): “Every head coach has to really buy into the situation he's in,” Bielema said. “You've got coaches that maybe don't fit certain scenarios and it just doesn't work.”

I'm not trying to stir up a "Bo needs to go" thread, but I do wish Bo "bought into" Nebraska more.

I just don't understand comments like these.
