  1. I rewatched the game last night and I noticed something that excited me about or D line. Many times it appeared that they weren't playing 2 gap. They were shooting gaps and getting behind the line of scrimmage. It did appear that they would switch back and forth. But, on big plays where we made stops, the D line appeared to be shooting the gaps and being in place to make a play.

Hopefully this is a direction they go more and more.

  2. I think this program has proven over the last 4-5 years that we have the talent to play with anyone on our schedule. What we have lacked is the mental toughness and confidence.

That is why this game is so big. They need to learn how to go out and kick the crap out of teams that are good teams. Wisconsin is way down this year from last year. BUT, they still have talent and they are a good team. We need to make a statement to the rest of the conference that we are going to play over the next 4-6 weeks.

The UCLA game was extremely frustrating in this aspect.

The Idaho State game gave me confidence because we proved we won't play down to the level of the competition. We also are a sound offensive team. We have weapons all over the field and the players know their rolls.

I believe we are going to do very well tomorrow. Part of that is because I constantly wear rose colored glasses. BUT, I believe the UCLA game taught this team a lesson and they have grown from it.

I pray that I am right on this.

  3. I'm fine with trying the spying roll by someone because obviously what we have done in the past hasn't worked.

However, I am not a fan of that because a good OC is going to make an adjustment to deal with that. Outside running by Dennard??? I would tell my best blocking WR that every time a play like that is ran his job is to take that spy out of the play no matter what.

  4. I believe it is extremely important to get pressure on their QB early and often. I fully understand you can blitz too much. But, this guy is a stand in the pocket passer and a freshman. We need to get him rattled. I am begging Papuchis to have some very well disguised blitz packages so that this QB has no clue who is coming from where.

  5. One thing I just thought of....

Having such a low opponent in ISU could be a big benefit for us. Sure, we game planned for them and I'm sure the coaches didn't have the team overlooking them, but I guarantee that the coaches were game planning for WI this last week more so than when we play a more quality opponent.

Couple that w the fact we added a few wrinkles on offense that we probably won't use againt WI, just to make them prepare for it, take up their practice time.

Its like we got an extra couple days of prep work because of the sched. This could be an advantage for us.

I see what you are saying, I also think that it could be something that hurts us too. Playing the level of ISU, they are slow and will be nothing like the athletes of wisconsin. So hopefully we didn't become acclimated to that pace of play and come out and get punched in the mouth against wisky. Obviously it's a stretch, but I think you understand my logic.

If this defense isn't used to going against a fast paced offense with speed it's the coach's fault. They have the opportunity to go against one every day in practice.

  6. This was slightly more than the Spring Game.

Only two things were gained from this.

    a) Prove we can play at a high level against inferior teams instead of what we did against SDU and Ball State.

    b) Get the players farther down on the depth chart playing time.

Other than that, this game means nothing.

  7. OK....if I took the OP wrong then I apologize.

But, I read into it that we will never be able to recruit with people like the SEC, Texas and USC.....

You shouldn't worry about recruiting at the level of an SEC team or USC, as you're just not going to consistently get better classes than them due to location.

And that we will never have top ten recruiting classes like those teams either.

If you guys are able to hover between 15-25 consistently in recruiting rankings, then you should be able to be getting into BCS games often.

And, that we will just never have the talent like the big boys....

I know you won't have the talent or stars of the USCs, Texases, Alabamas, or Floridas of the world,

So.....we should just pay attention to the conference and fight to just get into BCS games (which would be an improvement over the last 10 years) and leave the NC to the big boys.

We CAN recruit at that level if we continue to improve our winning and our efforts to go find the players that are that good and want to come here.

Another thing that would greatly improve our team (and every northern power house team) is if we would develop HS talent up north like they do in the south. We need Spring football and other benefits that southern HS players have. There isn't a huge genetic difference that happens somewhere around the Mason Dixon Line. We have athletes up here also. They just need developed.

What I do agree with is that we need to be the best program in the country at developing the talent we bring in. If we can do that, then the top talent that is now going to SEC, Texas and USC will start thinking more about coming to Nebraska.

  8.

The ONLY reason we're discussing this now is the Republicans are desperate for a Hail Mary to save Mitt Romney from impending doom, and the disparate impact of such laws favors Republicans.

Ummm....no.....this has been an issue with many people for LONG before even Obama was elected so it has nothing to do with Romney.

Dems have done a great job of politicizing the issue and preying on old poor people making them fear that their freedom to vote is going to be taken away by these big mean people. Congratulations, you have bought into it fully.
