  1. It's not that long of a walk...about a mile and a half...although it is uphill on the way back. From Lot H at the SE corer of the Rose Bowl...walk up Rosemont to Orange Grove....go right on Orange Grove....from there you can either go left on Walnut or go down a couple more blocks and go left at Colorado Blvd. Just follow the crowds...they'll be lots walking.
  2. You should keep us updated as far as husker fans around the area, if they are starting to be noticeable, if you live in LA!! I don't live in LA anymore. I live in Vegas now. I'll be driving in tomorrow morning. BUT I have already heard you guys are painting the town red. Several dozen out on Hollywood Blvd yesterday....and many sightings in the Santa Monica area. I'm still trying to figure out how I have 23 Huskers coming to my tailgate!?! My son in law is a Husker and I told him he could invite his friends and family who are coming to the game. I bought 12 extra tickets for him on my season ticket application this year...but now somehow in the past 2 weeks the 12 I was expecting has grown to 23! I'll be interesting...I'll have 14 Bruins and 23 Huskers at my tailgate!...sadly, that will likely be about the same ratio of blue to red inside the stadium!
  3. As I said above, the fireworks have nothing to do with you guys or the lack of ticket sales. We always have fireworks for the first night game when we hire a new coach. Heck, it was for a San Diego St game back when Karl Dorrell was hired. AND...I can assure you...fireworks won't bring out the students either....fact is a very good percentage of our students have absolutely no interest at all in football (or any other sports, for that matter). Add that to the fact we've sucked for the past 10 years...and then add that to the fact school doesn't even start for another 2 weeks...and the fact that a good portion of our students don't even live in the Los Angels area... and what you get is a pretty dismal looking student section. Heck, our band will barely even be there. Only guys who live locally and were in the band last year. They'll play, but won't be doing a show or anything.
  4. Darn, in the good old days we used to have an In and Out truck serving food out in Lot H...but it was replaced by a Carl's Jr truck a few years ago. People were pissed! I haven't seen the list of vendors for this year...so maybe we'll get lucky and In and Out will be back! BUT...did you know In and Out is our secret recruiting weapon? LOL! At the recruiting tent at the games an In and Out truck caters the food. That's what the recruits and their families get to eat before the game. Hmmm...maybe that's "real reason" behind us being able to steal some of your recruits?
  5. ...and now that u$c is off probation (at least the post season play portion) and they are (were) ranked #1, there are a lot of those u$c shirts around. I am from Cali and the "fans" out here are such idots. There are the people who attend(ed) UCLA and u$c...and of course they should prop their alma mater...but the drunk, uneducated, criminal, raider fans looking for some place to watch football, drink, and knife people, ever since the raiders left, have glommed on to u$c. These people wouldn't know college football if they fell down the steps of the Collosseum. Another observation, when u$c couldn't win a game through the entire EFFFING `80s and `90s, you couldn't find anyone wearing u$c gear. Some of the A-hole "fans" even bought Bruin gear during the Aikman years (and proclaimed: "No, I've always been a Bruin fan"). Latley, all you see is brand new u$c gear fresh out of the sporting goods store. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting some jackoff wearing a trojan jersey. Pathetic. There's a cute picture making the rounds on Facebook right now...2 people talking...one says to the other "I'm wearing a UCLA sweatshirt because I went to UCLA. You're wearing a U$C sweatshirt because you went to Walmart!" Truer words have never been spoken! Yes, absolutely the "Raider fans" have adopted $C...but sadly, a few have adopted us too. God knows why, 'cause we suck! And a few very serious issues during the past 2 UCLA/U$C tailgates have resulted in some sweeping changes in our (and $C's) tailgating. We've been cut back from 12 hours to 6 hours. No more "drinking games". No more drinking in the parking areas after kickoff. Sad that some drunken idiots who have absolutely no ties to either school have ruined it for the rest of us.
  6. We can all agree that USC sucks. Welcome to HuskerBoard. Please don't mind the occasional snarky post. Most of us are very friendly as well. Wish I was going down to Pasadena for the game. You'll have to have a beer for me. Is it okay if I have a shot of Patron instead? I don't like beer.
  7. Walking around is fine, you don't have to be confined to an area. Put your drinks in a cup if you're walking around...especially with bottles! Technically no bottles are allowed, but they will usually look the other way if you're at your tailgate....but if you're walking around, absolutely no bottles! put it in a cup!. Drinking is fine as long as you don't act a fool. The Pasadena Police have little patience for fools and drunks. You should have no trouble finding people to hang out with. Lots of Huskers will be there ...and...all you have to do is shout "$C sucks"...and I guarantee you'll be invited to some Bruin tailgates! A taxi is going to be a pain...and you won't be able to get one after the game...so I'd recommend the Parsons Shuttle. The line is pretty long after the game...but it moves fairly quickly as there is a dedicated route for the buses...so they don't get stuck in the post game traffic.
  8. You mean other than MY tailgate? Both Lot H and the golf course are great. The die hard tailgaters tend to hang out in Lot H. The golf course tends to be a bit more laid back..a bit more family friendly. Lot H has no shade, so bring an EZ-up if you have one. The golf course has some trees around the fairways to provide some shade.
  9. Yep. Sliced is fine. LOL! I guess they think you're going to throw whole fruit. Who knows.... True story...a couple years ago a friend gave me one of those yummy gourmet caramel apples at our tailgate. I figured I'd bring it in and eat it during the game. They actually stopped me at the gate and would NOT let me bring it in! I mean seriously...I'm going to throw a yummy $10 candy apple a someone instead of eating it??? Seriously? They wanted me to toss it in the trash. I told 'em no way! I went back to the car and put it in my cooler! Ate it after the game.
  10. Lot's of great tailgating at the Rose Bowl. Grab some beer and head on down early. Parking opens at 10:30. Should be tons of Husker and Bruin tailgates you can crash. We're mostly pretty friendly...as long as you're not wearing a U$C shirt.
  11. Well, to be honest....we always do fireworks for the first night game after we hire a new coach. AND...we always hand out posters at the first game. So nothing too unusual about either of those things. And...we've sucked for so long now, trust me, a few fireworks and posters are going to do nothing to bring the bandwagon fans back to the games. The only thing that will do that is a couple years of winning. Pretty much the only people who come to our games now are the true diehards.
  12. Here's a quick rundown of everything you need to know, but were afraid to ask. If you would prefer not to deal with parking at the Rose Bowl, park at the Parsons Engineering Lot in Pasadena and take the free shuttle to the game. The lot is located at the corner of Fair Oaks and Holly. See map: http://rosebowlstadium.com/RoseBowl_shuttle-dropoff.php The Rose Bowl is in a small canyon in a residential area. There are no stores, markets, bars, or restaurants within a mile. So if you plan to tailgate, make sure you have everything you will need before getting there. There is no alcohol sold at the stadium. There is some halfway decent food sold at the tailgate area and also inside the stadium. The street access in and out of the Rose Bowl area is limited. Many of the access roads will be turned into one way streets before the game and also after the game. The road you enter the area from may not be the one they force you to exit from. So it won't hurt to print off a small map of the area showing the major roads around the Rose Bowl and how the intersect the nearby freeways. It will make getting back to your desired route a lot easier. See map: http://www.rosebowlstadium.com/i/GeneralParkingMap_L.jpg If you park on the golf course, make sure you look for the white balloon number marking which area you are in. When it's dark....it all looks the same and trying to find your car can be a major pain if you didn't make a note of your area number. Personally I don't think the traffic getting in out out is any worse than it is for many stadiums around the country. It just goes with the territory. If you go 4 hours (or more) early, there will be no problem parking. If you wait for an hour or so after the game for the traffic to clear a bit, then it's not so congested leaving. Lot H is probably the easiest to exit. The golf course is probably the most difficult. Parking is $20. If you have a motor home they will send you over to West Drive to park. Motor home parking is around $40-50. See map: http://www.rosebowlstadium.com/i/parking-lg-2010.jpg Parking opens 6 hours before kickoff....so obviously that means about 10:30. North portion of LOT H is a Fanzone/Foodzone area. It usually gets up and running about 4 hours before the game. There are several food stations out there. Usually hamburgers, grilled sausages, teriyaki chicken, grilled corn on the cob, soft drinks/water, no beer. There are also stations out there with games and giveaways. FOX is usually there doing their pregame radio show live. The UCLA alumni band will be playing for a few hours. ...cheerleaders posing for pictures. The UCLA team does their walk-through to the stadium in this area about 2 or 2.5 hours before the game. If you want to greet YOUR team, they should be arriving around 2.5 hours before the game. Their buses will pull up to the SE corner of the stadium, right outside tunnels 26-27. Temps should be in the high 80's. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended, especially if you're tailgating all afternoon....or sitting on the east side of the stadium (tunnels 10-27) as they will be in the sun for an hour or two. You may bring sealed plastic bottles (2 liters or less) of water (or soft drinks) into the stadium. Bottles MUST be factory sealed. If you open it and take a sip before going in, they will not let you bring it in....keep it factory sealed until you enter the stadium. If you try to sneak in booze, be VERY discreet...they will search all bags and purses. Prohibited Items Include... Noisemakers including thunder sticks, musical instruments, whistles, air horns Alcoholic beverages Hard or soft sided coolers of any size Plastic drink containers (except 2 liters or less with factory seal intact) Backpacks, bags and purses larger than 14" square Unsliced fruits or vegetables Banners, signs, flags, balloons, and poles Any other questions?...ask away. Here's to a fun, exciting, injury free game.
