The closest thing I could find to anything claiming to be official is this article from HuskerOnline saying that an Athletic Department source told them official capacity is 85,458. That's news to me, since the last time I can recall a hard number from UNL was 90,000 after the 2013 East Stadium Expansion.

They widened seats in 2015 and 2017 which took out almost 2,000 seats. The 2013 expansion put capacity at 87,147.

Becuase they are harder to come by. You don't need a whole team of them, but to have one is def a bonus.

Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Michael Thomas, Adam Thielen, Travis Kelce, George Kittle were all in the top 10 in receiving yards - all are at least 6'2. In fact, I think there was only 1 under 6'1 in the top 10...

If we’re just counting WRs then 6 of the top 10 are are 6’1 or under and that doesn’t even count OBJ.

Edit- just to clarify I’m not saying I wouldn’t like some taller guys. I just don’t think it’s a necessity. A good scheme gets guys open and a lot of these taller guys in the NFL have supreme athleticism and route running skills so that they’re getting their separation at the break instead of bodying off guys and bullying smaller DBs for the ball.

I’m not saying he’s going to stay 250? I see him getting to 280-290. He is not athletic enough imo to play olb.

Why do you assume he’s going to hit 280-290? We have a nutrition program. He’s going weigh as much as our coaches want him to.

I agree with what is being proposed here.  However, there needs to be a third form of helmet to helmet contact.  I can't remember his name, but we had corner run a perfect corner blitz years ago, came in at the numbers with head to the side....only to have the QB drop his body level to protect himself and thus...helmet to helmet.  THAT should not be penalized.  The defender did what they were supposed to do. The unexpected change of body position of the QB is what caused the flag.

That was Courtney Osborne I believe and that would fall under incidental contact. The reason I don’t think this would be a solution is I think you’ll see more targeting calls. I’m sure there have been plenty of calls where by rule there was targeting but the refs saw it was clearly incidental and disqualification of the player seemed too harsh a punishment so they picked up the flag. On the other hand there would be less ejections but this feels more like a band-aid than a solution.

  5. IMO the way the targeting rule is worded and enforced how it is currently is just to save the NCAA from being sued.

Also I don’t think incidental helmet to helmet contact should be flagged. Examples would be Gerry vs UCLA and Devin White’s example in the article.

Personally I don’t see an outcome that college football fans would like.

We should learn more with the Gold cup happening this year. I hope they just go super young and work through the pain of that. I dont mind a few vets like Bradley making the team but would prefer to move past the Jozy Altidores.

Also need to figure out who our goalie will be.

Please no older guys especially Bradley. His legs are gone and we have plenty of experienced guys at centerfield. Zack Steffen will be the goal keeper IMO. Had already played some in Europe before his move to Columbus and is transferring to Man City.

I sure hope we can build off him. Tons of young talent on the team but with the new hire who knows what this teams identity will be.

Crazy to think he is still only 20 years old. Will be 22 in the next world cup(if we make it) and 26 when the world cup is in Canada/USA/Mexico.

Ya know I wouldn’t be surprised if by 2022 Weston McKennie is our best player. He’s having a great season at Schalke and has played multiple positions.

Some kind of older news but...

-Josh Sargeant was called up to Werder Bremen’s first team and scored a couple goals.

-Haji Wright was called up to Schalke’s first team and scored a goal off an assist from McKennie

    -Disappointed in the Berhalter hire.

G5 school stealing a solid P5 coach, interesting. Houston just more willing to open up the checkbook than West Virginia was?

IMO either Holgorsen wanted out or it was a mutual split. He won’t be making much more money at Houston this year than he was at WV and he was likely to get a contract renewal either this year or next that would’ve increased his pay.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed in what I thought would be a pretty deep set of options before the season started.

I don’t know I would’ve called what we had a deep WR group. Unless I’m missing someone we only had 3 scholarship WRs who had caught a pass in FBS football. Even then only two of those guys were proven commodities. Tyjon Lindsey seemed more hype than anything and bounced before the season started to turn.

Just throwing out a theory.... Do you think Pola- Gates and Pola-Mao actually signed today but told the media that they weren't signing until February just to keep it a secret as long as possible.. Then they can announce they signed with Nebraska at the Poly Bowl?

The problem with that is they would have to let other coaches know their decision. Probably more trouble than it’s worth and it would surely get out somehow.

Maybe it is just me but I feel like the media is sort of "over" Tua...I think we sort of saw that a bit this year.  Almost like he seems to make things look too easy?

IMO it’s because his efficiency dropped when they played good defenses and the fact they could lean on their run game or Hurts to still score. He’s a great QB but he’s replaceable at Bama.

Also Waddle is insanely fast and you almost need to bracket him or he’ll be 2 steps ahead of the guy covering him out of the break.

I'm personally not sure that the alignment was as big of a deal as what he did after the snap.  He was lined up where our standard alignment would be.  But when you know it's fourth-and-eight, you can't start at 10 yards and then backpedal.  If you're going to line up there, you have to stay and drive on the throw at the line to gain.  Take your chances with him going deep but don't give him an easy one like that.

Yup. Stated this in another thread but the TE ran an an 11 yard route before he made his break. The throw was late and not exactly a bullet. The problem was Reed was 5 yards off the TE when he made his break. Heck if he was only 2 yards off it would’ve been an easy pass break up or interception.
