We play a s#!t ton of freshmen, 5 or 6 games this year we’ve played over 70 players. You come to Clemson, you play early and often. It’s Dabos way of building depth.

Not exactly a hard thing to do when 8 of your wins are by 28+ points. Especially considering the overall talent on your roster.

I'm talking about lining up 10 yards off the receiver so they could catch an easy pass and kick the game winning field goal

The receiver ran a route that went 11 yards downfield. It wasn’t really a problem with how far back Reed was lined up at the snap but rather how far Reed dropped back. He was about 5 yards off of Hockensen when he made his break. Gotta know where the sticks are.

They also switched away from 3-4 to 4-3. That shouldn’t be glossed over. Changed scheme from what they had been coached to do for a few years. Probably don’t have a roster of 4-3 guys.

UCF ran a 4-3 prior to Frost getting there. So only 2 classes recruited for a 3-4.

And if that’s your arguement then why not give Chin credit for improving UCF’s scoring D 68 spots in his first year? Especially considering Chin just took over the worst Nebraska defense in recent memory and is the 3rd DC in 3 years?

I will say in the 3 years  chins been a DC he hasn't impressed me  but Frost must see something that I don't.

He took over the 118th scoring defense and turned them into the 50th, and 43rd scoring D the following 2 years.

f#&% me. Where is St. Paul husker. Not sure why being a good loyal fan means you can’t question anything with the team.

Nobody is saying you can’t question or make complaints about the staff. Make a better arguement and don’t ask for other posters to make your arguements for you.

Facts are facts whether you like them or not. UCF D this year is performing better this year even with 2 NFL talents gone.

Maybe the fact last year they faced 5 teams in the top 25 in scoring including 2nd overall scoring offense after UCF in Memphis twice and this year they’ve only faced 1 such team?

Chin stated similar things at UCF - get HCSF the ball.  My question is at what cost this emphasis will have in the future.

Why do you assume there is a ‘cost’ associated with this? UCF was 2nd in the country last year at forcing turnovers. That’s not an anomaly and I don’t think that came as a detriment to yards or points allowed on defense.

Why does Frost/Chin not focus on having a Suh-Like defense AND stress turnovers?

What is a Suh-like defense? Because it sounds like you’re arguing for better recruitment/development. Scheme isn’t what made that defense so dominant.

Had this been any other coach on a 3-7 team, we'd be talking about why Nebraska abandoned those successful quarterback draws in the second half,  why Ozigbo only got 11 carrries, and why we got cute by throwing the ball when we had the lead in the fourth quarter.

That’s only a valid arguement if the passing game wasn’t working. With a 70% completion percentage and 8.5 yards per attempt with a mobile QB who if the play breaks down can scramble quite effectively, I wouldn’t say you’re ‘getting away from what’s working.’

A better question to ask would be: if you were Japanese and someone came to your house dressed up as "Japanese guy", would you find that offensive in any way.

If he was wearing a legit kimono the vast majority of Japanese people would like it. If he put on yellow face or did actions to mock their culture or accent then it would be a problem.

If you mean complete teams, I can agree. They were awfully close though and had units that were as good as any in the country. 2009 Defense and 2011 Offense for example. Those coaches did not have the advantages Frost will. Mark my words, he'll reel them in. In state, regionally, nationwide.  If he puts out one over achieving league title contender (and he will) the recruits will come.

I’m willing to bet Ohio State has more guys on their defense this year on their 2-deep that are 4/5 stars than that 2009 or 2011 Nebraska had on its entire team.

Riley absolutely wasted 2 years (sophomore & jr seasons) of this kids career and I'm glad his ability is finally being realized.

This. Judging any RB in Langsdorf’s offense was a fools errand.

Ozigbo lost some bad weight he put on when he was pretty much just a short yardage back. He was always agile and athletic for his size. Put Any RB in a competent run scheme over Langs’ ‘zone blocking inside run’ 20 times a game and anybody will look faster.

  12. Didn’t know where else to put this but I was looking at NCAA’s stats to see how some of our guys compared to the rest of the nation.

    AM

    23rd in comp%

    37th in passing ypg

    Spielman

    24th in receiving ypg

    12th in receptions per game

    Morgan

    48th in receiving ypg

    Ozigbo

    40th in rushing ypg

    6th in ypc

    Bootle

    5th in passes defended

We lose most of the OL, Ozigbo and Morgan. What other losses will hurt? What redshirts will produce?

Only lose Foster and Farmer on the OL. I think Mills steps in next year and gets a good amount of carries. My biggest worry is probably safety. We’ll lose Williams, Reed, and Neal.

Anyhow my original point was this isn't the song writers union, this is competitive Power 5 football so one season good or bad does not validate a coach as I pointed out with Gene Chizik.

Newton and Malzahn were largely the reason for Chizik’s success at Auburn. Auburn hired Chizik from ISU where he was on the hot seat already for only winning 5 games in his first 2 seasons. That’s why when Malzahn left they only won 3 games and why he’s now the head coach at Auburn. Not exactly apples to apples as Frost calls his own plays.

I did watch them play and believe they had some really good players on defense. With that said against the 4 ranked teams they played in 2017 they gave up over 34 points a game.

Your entire arguements stems around 2 games. The USF game and the Memphis CCG game. They only allowed more than 24 points 4 times. Those 2 games, 30 against an FCS team in a blowout, and 27 to Auburn. Memphis was 2nd in offensive ppg and held them to just 13 in their first game.

Traditionally an elite defense ( in American football) yields about 12 ppg.

Thats only been done once in the past 4 years.

We bring pressure, and our secondary can't cover 1-on-1. We sit back in coverage and our pass rush can't get there. We're kind of in a catch 22 at the moment

We play man and get beat. We play zone we get beat.

For me it’s on personnel. They had to convert 2 4th downs on their field goal drive and then 99 yards with no timeouts and a little over 2 minutes left on their TD. I think by the end of the season Cam Taylor is starting.

I'm no Riley lover, but he was stuck with Diaco and Diaco killed them last season.

He didn't have enough time or freedom within the program.

What about Langsdorf? We had him for 3 years.

Please explain how Riley didn’t have enough time or freedom. He was 61 when he accepted the job. He knew what he was getting into.
