The deal isnt covering a 35 point spread

To think we are even talking about NU getting pummelled by Wisconsin by 35-50 pts is rather revealing itself

The deal is can we win this game

Looking at what they have coming back and what we have coming back and then looking at both teams and a Wisconsin team that is changing little with a 1,000 yard rusher back and whose strength on Defense is what we will be trying to exploit.

That is in no way a toss up game

We stand very little to no chance of picking up a win there.

Very little to no chance of beating Wisky eh? So, what exactly is the chance? 4%? 10?

Until I see an absolute improvement, from this defense and offense, I say we have a 25% chance. That is as of right now. Riley didn't have a great SOS last year, and he didn't net a top 50 rush defense last year, and was even worse than us the previous year. I am PRAYING to be completely wrong and this staff can put together a great team, but I am not holding my breathe. I strongly believe that Paul Chryst is a better coach than Anderson as well.

  2. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I hope she fights through but the fact they were giving her CPR on the way to the hospital isnt a good sign.

Will wait for actual news before I assume though.

I see there is a press conference at 5:15.

Yeah, that is when they will have one. There are tweets out from some OPD officers saying along the lines "Worst news I have gotten". Just a report that KETV gave, but they said they aren't saying anything until they have confirmation.

The Wisconsin game dynamic has completely changed now that we have a defense that is built to stop the run first and foremost. We aren't trotting out the 100th ranked run defense like in the Pelini era. We have a great shot to win that game, I think we win at home.

Take away Wisky run game and they fall apart. They have little talent on the perimeter or at QB.

Haven't we been saying this same thing since joining the Big 10? How well has that gone for us? (Gordon just ran another 100)

Bo never took it away. Bo's run defenses were pathetic, that's the point. The same reason a lesser Minnesota team ran it down our throats the last two seasons as well.

How exactly do you know that our defense is fixed though and aren't trotting out the 100th ranked rush defense? I haven't seen any proof of this yet. I don't think it was just "Bo's defense". It was the lack of speed, athleticism and guys simply not playing their position the way they were suppose to. Bo's fault for guys not being prepared and not having the right technique, but let's not jump the gun and say its fixed or say where they will not be ranked.

  4. There is to much violence in Omaha! My prayers to this officer and her family as she was last reported as in critical condition! Suspect is also in critical condition.

A couple law enforcement officers I know, have stated that she didn't make it. Nothing has been reported as of yet! I am hoping they are wrong!

I for one, wish they never ducked us, and played us in the National Championship Game.

They didn't duck us. They were contractually obligated to play in the Rose Bowl. There was no National Championship Game before the BCS.

Pretty sure he's talking about the Big 10, not Michigan specifically. That the B1G - and Pac-10 - refused to sign on to the Bowl Coalition because they wanted to keep their Rose Bowl matchup. Then they cried when the got left out.

    Thank you Mavric!

  7. I am a girl but I don't want to pay $ to get cancer ;)

Thanks for the info. Have you heard of Good Life fitness at all? (Just wondering if it's bad or you didn't know anything about it).

I have not heard anything about Good Life. I would check for online reviews.

On a side note, did legs, set a personal record, 540lbs on incline leg press! WOOT! Also put 225 up 10 times on 2 sets on decline bench. Needless to say, I am exhausted lol.

  8. It's really gonna depend on how this season goes, but like I said, a guys senior year is the LAST year you want to write a guy off. This is when they should be at their best.

With this kids work ethic, I think he is going to leave it all on the field this year. Whether he wants to play at the next level or not, he will want his name remembered here, in some sort of way. All I know, I will be cheering on this kid harder than I have in the previous years. If anyone remembers, I was really harsh on him last year, and actually stated he was going to be 4th, behind Taylor. Got trashed for it too, but who knows if he would have been had Taylor never broken his ankle. We have a tremendous amount of talented depth at that position. I think him being a Senior, and having experience, while being our best pass protection back there, he will see the field more than he had with Bozo and Company.

You're going to pull a YPC stat? We will agree to disagree. Unless he gets significant playing time this year, and I'm talking splitting the carries, he's not getting drafted. It's not too great of an accomplishment to average 5 yards when you get maybe 5 to 10 a game.

This is where I believe you are wrong. Here is the first picked FB in the draft, Jalston Fowler (which is what Cross will most likely enter the draft at).

    Fowler- 12att, 69 yards, 5.75 A/yards, 0 TD.

Do you know where this kid went? 4th Round, #9 pick, 108th overall.

    Cross- 75att, 384 yards, 5.12 A/yards, 5TD

To say he needs a substantial amount of carries to be drafted, is asinine, and just proven to be wrong. All he needs to show, is he can contribute and be a wreck in the next level. Here at Nebraska, and across the nation for those who pay attention, he has shown to be a player than can get those hard to grind yards.

I find that comparison useless unless Cross switches to FB for his SR year here. You have no evidence or film what so ever to suggest Cross is an NFL Draft level FB, let alone the best FB in the draft.
That came off harsher toward you then I planned also, just meant it for convo..nothing personal.

I don't take anything personal man, its the intraweb lol. Anyway, I think there is plenty of film on him with pass protection, and even protection when we had 2 RB in the backfield, as well as him being a bruiser. Its there, and these are the films that they see, as well as his flaws. I still believe he needs to work on his field vision, but outside of that, he is pretty solid and can contribute. Drop 15lbs and become a faster RB, or stay the same weight, possibly gain a few (145ish) and become that bruiser in the backfield and help in pass protection.

  10. I always thought it was odd that Cross never transitioned to play FB. He's built for it but playing lead blocker is kind of a thankless job.

Biggest reason, how often did you see Janovich out there? Lol, we weren't built to really have a FB in our system. Its Beck's goofball system that didn't work against good teams lol.

  11. I'm on vacation for a few weeks and found an amazing gym. I wish I could bring it back to Lincoln with me. Although I've never been in a Lincoln gym. Any recommendations? I'm not taking classes this summer so I can't use the UNL rec center. Basically the only things I want in a gym that I don't have at home are: squat rack, assisted pullup/dip machine, lat pulldown.

Anyhow, just got done doing these things:

    Back extensions

    Lat pulldowns

    Barbell rows

    Dumbbell rows

    Lunges

    Step ups

Squats (can finally add weight on the bar next time)

    Calf raises

    Farmer's walk

    Stair machine

YMCA, Anytime, Golds (not very clean IMO), or Snap.

There is also Planet Fitness, is where I go. Its cheaper, and CLEAN. I pay $20/month, only because I wanted the nation wide option and free guest pass. They do tanning too, since I know you are a girl :P If you don't care about those things, no contract, they are $10/month.

It really comes down to cost too. YMCA is income based. Golds is 20/month IIRC. Anytime is around $30, and Snap I have no idea, but I have heard good things about them.

  13.

Cross has the misfortune of playing in an offense that doesn't fit his talents. When I saw Le'veon Bell in college, I was never impressed with him or thought he was going to be much of anything at the next level, now he's a stud in the NFL. I think that those two compare in skill sets.

Excellent comparison. Wish I'd have thought of that.

I agree, I think Cross's skills are overlooked because he just plain didn't belong in Becks offense. I think NFL scouts will see more than just stats.

Let's see what Riley and staff have in store. Hopefully it's a bit more north and south run game. Also, I hope this staff recognizes personnel advantages more than the last staff. Cross should see more touches in a more traditional offense, especially in those short yard situations.

This is exactly why I think he will get drafted. If 4 FB's can get taken last year, Fowler from Alabama being the only impressive one, I see no reason why Cross would even get checked off the list. If players his size wasn't being drafted in that position, I would agree, but this kid will get drafted unless he has an injury.

  14. I watched the Big Ten Icons the other day, and they had one on Woodson. Tonight, they played Big Ten Elite, and they had the 1997 Michigan team. This brings back the old subject or who was better, Nebraska or Michigan?!

I for one, wish they never ducked us, and played us in the National Championship Game.

Again, there isn't much going on here during the off season, so... fan bias aside, do you think we would have beaten the heralded Woodson's Wolverines? Thought this could be a good conversation piece, and a reason to live in the past a little.

  15. Great article Mavric. We all know Cross can lose weight and become closer to that ideal weight. If I remember right, he is actually less than 240 now, but you can't compare one player to another from a different year on where they will be drafted. That is what I meant more towards my post. While Burkhead had a great combine, his injury prohibited him from becoming a higher draft pick. Even if they want to put him in the draft as a FB, he has a good chance, especially that they are still drafting from that position.

  16. If burkhead is only a sixth round pick with how he performed at Nebraska then cross has no chance of getting drafted unless he runs for like 1500 yards this season

I don't want to sound rude, but that perception couldn't be any more wrong. There is a huge difference between a 215lb 5'10" RB (Burkhead), and a 240lb 6'1" RB (Cross). Had Burkhead also not had health concerns, he would have gone higher.
