UCF’s defense seems to struggle mightily against a similar high octane passing attack, which they would see every day in practice. How do they fare against the smash mouth offenses more common in the Big Ten?

That is why am willing to stay patient. There is a difference in styles of the two. How you align and attack is different between what Memphis runs and what a Wisconsin/Iowa runs.

Still way to much given up by UCF in the first half, yuck!!!

  2. The one thing I have to say about Central Florida’s defense, we do not face very many offenses that play this type of style. Maybe a Purdue or Indiana type but not very many others.  So I’m willing to be patient and see how things look in the B1G.

Not to mention, it’s not always on the coaches but also the players to perform. Sometimes you can see fundamentals and effort lacking but other times players just need to make the play.

Break down in coverage sometimes is as much on the player than the coaches.

  3. I thought Duval did a good job for Bohl at Wyoming before heading to UCF with Frost.

At Wyoming he had his work cut out for him transforming the team from a finesse roster due to Dave Christiansen’s style.  Of course Bohl wants them physical.

Lubick is currently the Co-OC/WR Coach as Washington.  Was the Passing Game Coordinator/WR coach at Oregon when Frost was there then took over as OC after Frost left.  Makes a lot of sense.  Would be a direct transfer of duties from Walters.

Lubick would be a good hire.  He has pretty much mirrored Frost up until when Frost left for UCF.  He's done well for himself at Washington and would be a good fit with the rest of the rumored staff joining Frost in Lincoln.

  5. I think the star rankings are a tad overrated, but it's no coincidence these teams that harbor all these guys are also near or at the top of college football.

Wisconsin is an outlier in so many ways.  Their brand of football takes physicality to the extreme.  That's not to say they don't have athletes.  Quite the contrary, but they don't need an all-world QB to succeed.  Physical, aggressive, fundamental football is their game.  They play defense like we use too.

I do think one way Nebraska can regain a lot of the glory is at the QB position.  A guy that can help your team in so many different ways can be a great neutralizer.   A great QB can cover up for a lot of deficiencies.

  6. The uncertainty surrounding UCF, FSU, and up until a few days ago, Florida, should leave quite a few Floridians up in the air when it comes to their recruitment.   This could be good for Nebraska.  Frost has a relationship with many of these guys and they may be more apt to listen and entertain a Nebraska scholarship compared to a UCF one.

If I were Frost, I would go down into Kansas and try to pry away two QB's in Norton's 4-star signal caller in Jace Ruder, who is verbal committed to UNC,  and also grab back Terry Wilson from Garden City CC. Those two would be huge building blocks at QB going forward.

  7. I think it would be a no-brainer for us to bring in Wilson. His prior connections to Nebraska, ending up with Frost at Oregon and of course his overall fit for the offense Frost runs.

Was the Jayhawk Conference Offensive POTY at Garden City CC this year.
