Burrow had proven nothing when he walked onto LSU campus. That’s the reason we passed on him. Maybe Frost now sees the value in options at the QB position. Having two highly rated guys battle it out for the starting job is much better than handing it to one guy.

Especially when you take into consideration the possibility of a QB injury.

You  watched Chubby and you think he’s Joe Burrow? I hope you’re right but I’m not seeing any elite QBs looking our way. Thompson would be a good one to get in here. Don’t see Ward even giving us a sniff.

You watched Joe Burrow and thought he would end up being Joe Burrow?

We offer walk ons who barely contribute every year because we have unused scholarships, bringing in multiple QBs to compete for the most important job on the team seems like a better use to me…

or imagine if we told a kid he wasnt going to play here and should look for a new home....

Thompson for 1 yrs seems to be more of a transition QB for this offense then Purdy would be.  Do you grab Thompson for the '22 season and Purdy as the long term project competing with Haarberg..??

That would make the most sense if you are going to go after Purdy. I am starting to think we are just running down the board and getting who we hope we can get at this point. Next step is just warm bodies.

Chubba Purdy seems about the same as Logan Smothers.

I bet he has injuries because he runs all the time.

He has a QBR of 99.2 in 2021. Granted that was in 1 game where he only threw 5 passes and completed all of them. He has 1 rushing attempt on the season for 5 yards.

No one is signing up to transfer here at QB, bug surprise, so they are throwing offers out now in panic mode most likely. This was always the way it was going to go if folks were honest.

Even if we bring in Purdy etc I am ok with that. We need more competition at the spot. If Purdy wins great, if Smothers or another win thats fine too. I wish we would make a run at a guy who has been a starter though from the FCS level etc. Give the room someone who has gone out and done it at some level of college ball

    That's my prediction.

All I know is that without a solid transfer QB we're not going to win 6 next year and none of it will matter.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us only win 4 next year. Sure we hope to have fixed kicking and punting but without an upgrade at QB and the OL and with what all we have lost on defense will that make the difference? I am not sure

A lot of guys having kittens about who we're losing to the portal...are we really losing a lot?  Are we missing these guys after they're gone?  Robinson was a blow, Martinez may be...but are we just losing crazy amounts of talent and not replacing it?

I really just don't see it.

    Robinson is in the portal?

I would be very surprised if that speculation is true.

I don’t see Tuioti as being someone that would be recruiting all season for his next job.

It is kind of funny that he told Tuioti no and he is still going to be coached by Tuioti though. Maybe he legit liked the other coach better and now hes like what the hell haha

If we can't get a top RB coach, I would be perfectly fine with Brown filling that roll this year.  We need to win THIS YEAR.  He's obviously a good coach with RB experience.  Any recruiting deficiencies he has can be covered for a year.

I am less worried about Browns recruiting ability if that means Busch is hitting the trail for us.

It doesn’t help when Tuioti’s boss is a likely one and done HC do he’d likely be unemployed in 11 mos.  So he should be looking and gets a $200k pay jump?   No brainer.

Let’s hope Frost’s other staff are more loyal to him but it had to be very disturbing to see him fire two former Huskers and his whole offensive inner circle so not surprising if coaches jump ship.

I am sure Trev is busy reviewing his old notebooks to prep to take over the DC job. Dawson be excellent back on DL.  I’m not sure if Ruud could handle all the LB/DE spots but coaches may be as hard to lure into the den as QBs and O linemen.

Was our DL better under Dawson or Tuioti?

Go with the kids we recruited.  Honor our commit to them. I think we all might be very surprised to see how improved these guys might/could be with an actual QB coach.

Too your point, I don't want some BS no one fit what we were looking for crap either.

I mean we dont actually know if Verduzco could develop as our only data point is Adrian Martinez who statistically was fine but when it came to crunch time he crumbled. Can you teach a QB to have ice in his veins or is it something you either have or you dont? I tend to lead towards the latter which means you gotta find a guy who puts a team on his back and wills them to victory.

No disrespect but it's odd seeing 'mental health support' It seems we have more of this on our team than I ever remember. Maybe it's just a new generation thing. Spielman, Manning, Betts, Martin etc.

I just think you actually hear about it now...I'd imagine plenty of guys in the 90s had mental health issues.

Or it's just being talked about more now. Admitting to mental health issues has long had a stigma associated with it. Still does.

Yep, Lawrence Phillips come to mind.
