  1. Occasional Conference title, Rose Bowl and National title contention. Top Ten finish too. I'm not saying we have to have all of them all of the time but being in the mix each year should very well be the expectation.

I'd say the 70s is probably the model to shoot for. 5 Conference titles, 2 National Titles, 1 Heisman, Top ten finishes every year.

  2. Wow, where's all the Barney bashers hiding: " Big red has a well coached well disciplined offensive line."? I thought the OL played pretty well until ARod replaced Sirles after he got banged up on a play.

    I'll bite

O line gave T-Mart essentially no passing protection, the Cotton boy's completely unnecessary penalty, A-Rod's consecutive penalties and a handful of other false starts don't really reflect being "well coached" or "well disciplined."

  3. Perhaps now that Beck has established himself, T-mart has improved dramatically, and we now have awesome depth at RB, Bo be able to put more of his focus on the D. The Offense appears to be in (mostly) capable hands. This should let Bo be able to get back to focusing on shoring up the D, much like he did when he first got here. I think we graduate some talent, but also some liabilities on D. If it were up to me, the offense being the most potent it has been in a long time, I would like to think Bo's added focus and influence on the D could get them to be about as effective as the 2008 defense.

  4. I Just posted this on another thread but applies here

We had a year where the 4 games we lost we scored over 30 pts in each

The stats are really staggering when u consider them

    Gave up 653 yds

Gave up 63 pts 500 yds and 371 yds rushing

Gave up 70 pts 640 yds and 539 yds rushing

And just to top it off with the vaunted top pass d

Gave up 45 pts 589 yds and 427 passing

The standard excuse is Bo's first couple recruiting classes were lacking. Shouldn't matter. This was a defense chalk full of Seniors. There was more than enough time to coach up the guys we did have, snag some JUCO guys to help, and turn them into a respectable defense. This was unequivocally a coaching failure.

I suppose the excuse next year will be, well, these guys are young - got to give them time to learn the defense. That could take years, if it happens at all.

    I agree entirely.

  5. New Offensive Line coach. The raw talent at skill positions has made up for this under achieving bunch. The offensive line was outclassed today.

Don't agree with this at all. Our offensive line was opening up big running lanes against an elite SEC championship level front seven. Our pass protection was poor, very poor, but our run blocking was good, and the skill positions haven't made up for this underachieving bunch - these walk-ons have overachieved no matter what angle you look at it. All season long our offensive line has worn down a lot of teams. Get some more talent and depth there, and we will be just fine.

So all of T-Mart, Abdullah, Rex's success is because of our O line and not their own raw talent to find/make plays? Dozens of plays involved Rex getting gang tackled by UGA players while most of our line was standing around watching. I wouldn't exactly call that overachieving.

We're parading around Cotton's sons, a kid who never knew what football was until he got to the States, and some small town Neb guys. Sure, they're overachieving because they've become starters, but they've done so because we have so little depth and talent. This has been an issue for a while now. Something needs to be done.

Are you trying to say that talented players in the backfield make plays to gain yardage? Hmm....I guess I can't disagree with that. I also don't think I said anything contrary to that.

Last time I checked, it's a team sport with 11 players on each side. Congratulations to Taylor, Rex and Co. for being good football players that make athletic moves. Since you're arguing hyperbole, I can try too. Let's trot out the diamond formation, except without the offensive line. I'd like to see how many moves our boys make to gain yardage.

I can tell you're getting your panties in a twist, but I'll do my best to remain civil and realistic.

I'm saying Rex, Mart and Co are making plays despite the offensive line, not because of them. The line is shaky and inconsistent at best. You yourself said we need more talent and depth. I agree. And sometimes it does feel like the offensive line isn't even out there.

It's 5 years into the Barney Cotton show and there has been marginal if any improvement. Something needs to change.

  6. Our defense is garbage all the way around. I'm not being a pessimist, just calling it how it is. I hope we find some answers on D next year, because I can't stand watching that pathetic crap.

Disagree. Do we have problems? Yes, but to make a blanket statement like this is just irresponsible.

Really??? Over 400 yards passing today by a nobody QB and there's no problem? . :koolaid2:

To be fair, Murray isn't exactly a "nobody QB"

  8. Hmmmm, not really sure. Born and raised in Nebraska. Alum. Used to be so attached it would truly ruin my week until at least wednesday if we lost. Have matured. LOVE all things Husker, with perhaps the exception of tiddlywinks, but mostly football. Still bleed red on Saturday's but my life doesn't change with a win or loss. I get involved in some Message board nonsense, but mostly out of boredom than actual belief that my thoughts really matter. And yeah...I do imbibe in the Kool Aid quite regularly. 13 - 0 or 6 - 7...I will love the Huskers.

    Same here dude. Same here.

  9. I would really love to see Beck come out with something creative like the wildcat with Rex or Jamal Turner. I think we could do some really cool stuff that Georgia hasn't seen on film from us all season.

I've thought Beck would have done something creative with the Offense for a long time now. He certainly has the talent for it. But, I'm guessing it'll be the jet sweep and zone read show tomorrow.

I honestly don't care all that much what we do, as long as we move the ball efficiently and don't turn it over.

Don't get me wrong, if whatever we're running works, don't change it.

I just was thinking that the talent on the offense could translate into a more unpredictable attack. Not for the sake of being gimmicky but because our skill players can gash just about anyone.

  11. I click on a thread Titled "Tim Beck"

Page one segues quickly into a T-Mart debate.

I skipped to page 4 and it has turned into some guys humping a door knob over what a real husker fan is.

  12. I can understand the OP's sentiment. We just got our asses handed to us in primetime, it's a bit tough to just shake it off.

I just hope they come out with a little piss and vinegar against UGA, because if they don't, this might be the crappiest off season yet...

I hope they come out swinging too, but the thing is... they should have come out swinging so many times before. I don't know that there was ever a more opportune time to snatch a conference title and BCS berth than this year. If it couldn't be done this year, what makes anyone think it'll happen next year?

It's just hard to get excited for this game as a fan.

  13. You know what is never discussed? It baffles me because it seems so simple. (I didn't read this whole thread. Maybe someone did mention this.)

Making ammunition extremely difficult to buy is doable. There are WAY too many guns to actually rid the landscape of the weapons themselves, but you suddenly make the bullets sparse as sin? Those guns become about as valuable as a brick. Maybe less.

This is the best option in my opinion.
