Hey you dont know much about football- that's no sin. You cant be great at everything You probably are very competent at something If you are a nuclear scientist or an expert fence builder or a video game geek expert and Im not- Im probably not going to comment much about nuclear science or fence building or video gaming or tell you you are wrong about it FYI...you haven't said squat about football other than Riley sucked at OSU so he is going to suck here. That is the gist of everything you have said. That doesn't take "knowing football" that is simply having an opinion and not accepting that other people have differing opinions. if you dont like what Im writing, then dont read it- simple stuff Here is a suggestion, if you are so smarter than everyone else and everyone should just listen to you, go start a Husker football blog. You could post all of your amazing insights on that blog and all of us that are just dying to read it can go over there and read it all day long and learn from the master. After all, no reason for us to even type anything because we don't know 1/1000th of what you have in your brain about football. None of us have ever played football, watched football or studied the game at all. I think that is the best way for us all to learn and become real fans. Well I guess you missed all the technical posts Ive made about the game, scheme, technique, coaching etc But that doesnt surprise me- Im guessing anything that is technical you dont bother reading If you dont like what Im writing, then dont read it, very simple stuff

Some people are just fans- they should stay that way When they try and talk the game- they just end up looking silly The defensive schemes guys run dont matter- that just isnt true, football 101 stuff Lots of the same people who were very critical of Bos scheme ( i was too) against the run, seem to not have the same standard when looking at Bankers schemes track record against the spread passing game Scheme matters I haven't read anywhere where anyone has said scheme doesn't matter. It's a combination of scheme and talent and you know that. But you did When someone says what happened at OSU doesnt matter- they are telling you that scheme doesnt matter When someone says that Riley didnt bring his players from OSU with- that its going to be different because the staff has an entirely different group of kids- they are saying that scheme doesnt matter- its about talent Scheme matters As you know; guys coach what they know, can teach and believe in Mark Banker has a D he knows, can teach and believes in- just like Bo did Like Bos D- Bankers D has consistently struggled against certain types of offenses,. Remember Rileys OSU teams were under .500 in conference. In Bankers world, that has been the spread, even average spread teams- it was why so many OSU fans wanted him run off and were happy with the coaching change My guess is when we play spread teams like BYU it is going to be a challenge- because that has been Bankers MO for quite some time.

You constantly preach about your comnections and camps and experience and blah blah blah. Great, you know a lot. Too bad you missed the part about explaining that knowledge to others without acting like a total froggin snob. You can lead a horse to water- but some refuse to drink just because they said in an earlier conversation that water stunk and they dont want to admit they were wrong Some simply dont know what they dont know, the ones that get it, understand how much they dont know and are willing to listen Really hard to explain such simple things like what a Pro Style Offense is- something all coaches and serious football fans understand and have to ARGUE with someone about it- Same for Zone blocking or what it takes to be a zone running back- all very basic football 101 stuff. It really is like saying the sun sets in the west and having to defend it, gets really old. The guys living in Moms basement- arent getting jumped for a single comment- its in response to their "expert" illogical opinions or outright mistakes- cracks- silliness-stalking. .

Very simple Riley was hired because many felt he had done an excellent job at a place with terrible facilities and support If someone else other than Riley comes in and does a much better job than Riley under those very same constraints (which happened the last time he left) with a majority of the very same players, that says maybe Riley and his staff werent as great as they were made out to be by those enamored with the hire. The big selling point- will be proven to be untrue. I personally dont want to go through a 7 year vetting process with someone who isnt going to get us to the next level. Time will tell Last time we werent a bit sceptical of the mans credentials in charge- it went on too long and didnt end well. No, it only matters if you are sitting back wringing your hands saying...."he he he....I'm going to prove once and for all that Riley sucks....just wait and see". Which...obviously is what you are doing. All that matters is how he does here. That's it. He was hired based on a premise- that he did good at a place that was awful. That premise is either correct or incorrect. Im hoping the guy replacing Riley goes 0-11- that would tell me, hey this Riley staff did really well with a pretty awful group of kids My guess is- just like Dennis Erickson did, they probably have a pretty good if not better year than under Riley. An inconvenient truth all the bandwagoners are ignoring. The guy finished #4 in the country there- better than anything here in the last 10+ years. Im not sure anyone thinks DE is a hall of fame coach. Im hoping Riley goes 11-2 here in year 1 and I get to see some consistently well played football from the guys with the N on the helmets The problem is- the facts kind of get in the way of those "wishes" Everyone likes and is rooting for the nice guy I hope it works out, I dont want to have to wait 7 years to find out if it did

Bankers defenses consistently had trouble with Spread Teams- Mobile QB or not They had some mixed results with Pro Style- but lots of problems with Spread teams They were 58-63 in conference play It'll be interesting to see how Banker's schemes work with better athletes. Seems like just our D-line alone will help out tremendously versus both mobile QBs and pocket passers. I guess well find out in about three months or so. Time will tell Same goes for seeing how OSU will do with the talent/lack of talent left behind and a new coaching staff of their own. Last time that happened- they did really well with all the bad talent left behind- just 3 points from an undefeated season. Finished #4 in country that year

Ok got it Many are saying- We are going to do GREAT against Pro Style teams because OSU did pretty well against some pretty good Pro Style teams in the past But the past pretty consistent poor results of that scheme against spread teams- even not so good spread teams means nothing I think last years season ended for OSU about 7 months ago- not a long time ago- pretty recent Back in Corvallis- they were trying to ride Banker out on a rail for not "adjusting" to spread teams= just last year
  12. We are all kidding ourselves if we think things have not changed a bit in Nebraska 30 years ago when I was doing camps EVERY kid had NU gear on- IF it was a school branded item That has slowly but surely changed 10 years ago I started seeing some Oregon, OU and even Texas gear Now I see a lot of Oregon, then Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, TCU and even UCLA stuff The breakdown now is about 35% NU, 40% no college brand and 25% the rest In Omaha and Lincoln- far LESS NU gear on the kids- LOT more variety In rural areas- NU is much better represented- dominates It wasnt that way 30-20 or even 10 years ago

  14. Wasn't a huge surprise for those of us at the game Miami had their hands on their hips and their DTs were kneeling down between plays in the 2nd quarter- they were gassed In the 4th quarter- they were absolutely spent, completely exhausted and their DC wasn't subbing anyone in- all their guys had dirty jerseys The one TD wasn't even blocked correctly and CS still scored untouched Had the game gone another 5 minutes- NU would have scored 2 more times, that is how spent Miami was I agree with you- my favorite Quarter of NU football

  16. Ya gotsta git up might early in the mornun to catch jmfBSer tryin to pull one over on ya (with same the same idiotic argument 4 or 5 times in 5 hours). I reckon yer a smart one aint ya Dont you have a cousin youre supposed to be on a date with right now?
  17. That is true Lots more to do with the groundswell of support the anti Banker people got, than consistently getting beat by Oregon, While they had some spotty success against SOME Pro Style teams They seemed to be fairly consistent at losing to spread teams- even not so great ones Had to be less than ,500 in conference That is one reason Im suggesting that no game is an absolute dont bother attending- the subs will be playing by halftime gimmie
  18. I dont knowI know the Buback family Chris is head of FCA- done some camps with him But Ive never talked to him about his sons college choice LC often times plays kids out of position to max out their team I dont know enough about him to say he is a great player or not What I hear from Jareds words is maybe he didnt feel wanted- like they really felt he was the right fit, That maybe NU was just honoring the commitment of the previous coaching staff. JMO- have no inside info at all. I was thinking the same. I read somewhere that the staff told him they would honor the previous staff's offer. If that's what they said (and how they said it, as opposed to we want you to come/we're excited with the prospect of you coming), I can understand. Also, you would think if the staff did really want him, they would taking action to try to get him back and I haven't heard anything to suggest they have (but that of course doesn't mean they haven't - I just haven't heard anything). Of course this is just speculation. But hey, it's a message board. I havent spoke to Chris in over a year However I do know from what Ive read that Jared wasnt contacted until 6 weeks after the hire That doesnt give me a good feeling if Im Jared Would have done the same thing he did- put feelers out, cant blame him for that He hasnt blocked much That isnt a great fit for a TE in a Pro Style offense MUCH less of a problem for the type of Spread that Rich Rod runs and how ASU uses Tight Ends- lots of flexed out- much less of a blocker- H back
  19. Sure Lets see who has the biggest improvement this season and next: Riley or Anderson from a wins/losses point differential improvement standpoint Should be interesting
  20. This is a giant load of crap. A complete fabrication. Not one individual has said this, not here and not in your personal life. Ridiculous garbage. Not true- lots of people have gone off the cliff talking about what a great job Riley did at OSU- I was paraphrasing what they said- that no one won before he got there and its such a terrible place to coach at. The reason he wasnt much more over .500 was because it was such a tough place to coach. That has been a very consistent mantra. Hes great because he's doing OK at a place most guys wouldnt do OK at. We shall see. No kidding? He hasn't coached a damn game. He hasnt shown he can consistently do that in the college game- he has a track record anyone can look up. You're right. You don't know. He hasnt shown he can do it, if he does it will be something new. Possible, not probable IMO Who is failing? His assistants the DC for example, Quite a few people in Corvallis were happy to see the DC go. The inside joke was Bankers only supporters- shills were Duck fans pretending to be Beaver fans that wanted Banker to stay on board so the Ducks could continue to score lots of points. http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2013/09/oregon_state_insider_beavers_g.html You sure about that? Yes of course. Just look at his Offensive Coordinators alone under Meyer. The previous five have all become head coaches, including Tom Herman, now the University of Houston head coach. Seems like pretty good evidence. That seems like a real high number to me. Are there any other head coaches out there doing better than that in todays game? Steve Addazio, Boston College (Florida OL/OC under Meyer) Gary Andersen, Wisconsin (Utah DL under Meyer) Tim Beckman, Illinois (DC at Bowling Green under Meyer) Gregg Brandon, Bowling Green, now OC at New Mexico State (OC at Bowling Green under Meyer) Doc Holliday, Marshall (Safeties coach at Florida under Meyer) Dan Mullen, Mississippi State (OC at Florida under Meyer) Mike Sanford, UNLV, now HC at Indiana State (OC at Utah under Meyer) Charlie Strong, Texas (DC at Florida under Meyer) Kyle Whittingham, Utah (DC at Utah under Meyer) Everett Withers, James Madison (DC at Ohio State under Meyer) Jay Hill, Weber State (GA at Utah under Meyer) Saban does the same thing- Jimbo Fisher, Mark Dantonio, Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain etc etc Hire the best assistants and pay them well Seems to work for both of them I remember where anyone who was realistic about Bo and pointed out where the cracks were with him, were run out on rails. Funny how that turned out in the end.
  21. 1. Way to ignore every single tweet that did literally say he is a great hire and didn't say anything about how nice he is. Just pointed out that the "evidence" the poster presented was full of polite well wishes- not all ringing endorements. Tom L- is a shill and a dishonest one at that IMO 2. It's not interesting. Wisconsin has scared off two consecutive, good coaches with their admission standards, and Andersen is a west coast guy. Literally every place he had coached before Wisconsin was out west: Ricks College (OL) (this is in Utah) Idaho State (DL) Park City (UT) HS Northern Arizona (AHC/DL/ST) Utah (DT/SDE) Utah (AHC/DT/ST) Southern Utah Utah (DL) Utah (AHC/DC/DL) Utah State Wisconsin Oregon State What a great job those guys did then with the anvil of tough admission standards hanging around their necks. Lets see who has the bigger uptick in year 1- Anderson at OSU 5 wins and negative 71 point differential or Riley at NU 9 wins and +143 point differential If you were forced to bet your life savings, where would you place your bet 3. Are USC and Alabama top 15 programs all time and deserving of top 15 coaches? They both offered Mike Riley their head coaching jobs. I havent heard of any top programs offering Riley in the last 5 years. Pretty easy to hire away since he was only making 1.5 at OSU Dennis Franchione- was a top coach 10 years ago- hired by Bama- then A&M, now he's making 400K coaching at SW Texas State Bo probably could have gotten an OK DI job 5 years ago What matters is now- 2015 Im hoping he is the guy, but the facts stop me from drinking the koolaide joining the Cross for Heisman campaign and buying the foam finger
  22. Who are the top 10 coaches? Which ones would have accepted NU's offer? Same questions for 11-15. Why does NU "deserve" this? I really want to know who jmfb feels the top 10-15 coaches in the country are? We know Sabin and Meyer are 1 and 2, and from reading his stuff I think Rich Rod fits into his thought pattern. I bet we could throw Jimbo in there also. After that I am thinking Bryles, Patterson and most likely big game bob. That's 8 guys. Which of those 8 would be coming to Nebraska to coach? The next 7 I don't know about? If all opinions are equal in value as you say- just go out and ask the old gal crossing the street or the kids hanging out at the corner marketThat seems to work for you If you have a medical question or something say on economics or physics, go ahead and ask them too. All opinions are equally valuable remember. I know you're a coach yourself and I know that means something - honestly - but there appear to be a bunch of guys who know a lot about football at an even higher level, and the informed consensus was that Mike Riley was a smart hire for Nebraska: Rivals.com national recruiting director Mike Farrell tweeted that the hiring is a "home run." "I don't think Huskers fans realize what a well-respected game coach Riley is and how hard it is to win in Corvallis," Farrell wrote. Aaron Taylor ‏@outland1997 Gut feeling that Mike Riley will be the Tim Miles for our football program. Congrats coach and welcome to the program. Tom Lemming ‏@LemmingReport Only time will tell but my guess is Mike Riley will bring Nebraska back to national prominence. Sean Callahan ‏@Sean_Callahan Another interesting tidbit about Mike Riley is he opened all practices at Oregon State to media and fans. Sean Callahan ‏@Sean_Callahan Also the fact USC courted him in 2011, and Alabama offered him their job in 2002 intrigues me on what drew him to make this move now? Damon Benning ‏@damonbenning Amongst his peers, Mike Riley finished 2nd in an ESPN poll behind Cutcliffe as the most underrated coach in the country. Tommie Frazier ‏@TouchdownTommie Good Hire by NU today. George Schroeder @GeorgeSchroeder · Just landed to news of Mike Riley to Nebraska. Truly stunning — but that is a GREAT hire. Scott Shanle ‏@scottshanle After hearing from many people who know Mike Riley personally I am optimistic about the future of @Huskers football. Dan Hoppen ‏@danhoppen Mike Riley was heavily rumored to replace Pete Carroll at USC in 2010, Dennis Franchione at Alabama in 2002. He must like NU’s prospects. Mike Farrell ‏@rivalsmike I may be in the minority here but I like the Riley hire for #Huskers better than the McElwain hire for #Gators. Thoughts? Zach Hannon ‏@_HannonZach72 I stand behind you @Coach_Riley ! I love Coach Bo and all my coaches, now it's a new era. I'm a husker through and through. #GBR Jay Glazer ‏@JayGlazer "@CFBONFOX: NEWS: #Nebraska hires Oregon State's Mike Riley to replace Bo Pelini>>Good for Riley, one of the nicest guys I ever met in NFL Mark McMillian ‏@MarkMcMillian29 If Mike Riley offered my son or any kid I coach I would send them in a heartbeat this man is all about the kids & families #GBR #Nebraska Rich Kaipust ‏@RKaipustOWH I liked this poll back in September because it was a vote of coaching peers -- and Mike Riley scored high on it http://es.pn/1Dc1ACC Brian Christopherson ‏@HuskerExtraBC Remember this when viewing Riley's record at OSU. MT @Hlas Oregon State had 28 straight losing football seasons, from '71 thru '98. Jay Foreman ‏@foreman5655 A few things that will be different:player development and pro off!! That alone I'm cool with! Chips in!#HuskerNation Greg Sharpe ‏@SharpeGreg Excited to meet and work with @Coach_Riley can't wait to begin the next chapter of Husker Football. GBR! Brock Huard ‏@BrockESPN No one in CFB I'd trust more with my son in his program than new NEB Coach Mike Riley. Judge this hire after you see the staff he assembles John Bishop ‏@JohnBishop71 #Huskers could double Riley's OSU salary and still be on budget with last year. Look for assistant salary pool to be strong. B. Reilly ‏@brandonreilly01 Idk why everyone's being so negative, give the guy a chance. I mean he has a solid last name that should count for something. Let's get it! Jon Nyatawa ‏@JonNyatawa “He has done more with less at Oregon St than almost any coach I know" -- former NU AD Bill Byrne Jeremy Crabtree ‏@jeremycrabtree #Pac12 assistant on Mike Riley: “Our recruiting jobs just got a lot easier. Thanks for taking the time to do that. There's a lot of people excited about the future. I'm one of them. Being excited for a new start is a lot better than bitching about a guy who hasn't even coached a game yet. Maybe someday Riley and his staff will give me something to whine about, but at this point, I can't find a damn thing to complain about. At this point, I just can't get why isn't everyone on board? Nobody ever said it was all great at Oregon State, but it wasn't all bad either. Simply put, there's a lot of very smart, knowledgeable people, who think Riley is a damn good coach. I'm gaining my own perspective this offseason, and based purely off what I have to go on, I really like these coaches attitude and approach. They've hit the ground running on recruiting also between finishing the last class and what looks like a brilliant start to this class. I can understand skepticism. The last seven years left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm reluctant to completely buy in as well, but that's different than sitting on a Husker message board and completely bashing everything Mike Riley has done, acting like there is no positive side to his hire, and completely ignoring the reputation the man has. He's the new Husker coach. I've got his back til' he gives me a reason not to. I did the same for Bo Pelini as crazy as that may sound. Im hopeful Mike Riley does well We will be in our season tickets seats and cheer him and the kids on, win or lose. Its not life or death, it's entertainment. If I see good football being played, I will be his biggest fan Im glad he is a very nice person But at the end of the day, what matter most is what happens on the field with the team I dont like seeing inconsistent undisciplined play and coaching and sloppy football- that's just me Personally I supported Bo to an extent, he didnt grow into the person I hoped he would be Was glad he moved on What is off is what the media says NU fans are- unrealistic even outrageous: Johnny Stanton just needing some "QB whispering" and hes in the mix to start Imani Cross being a starter or NFL prospect in a pro style offense NU vying for a final 4 bid- LAST YEAR or even this year NU beating Ohio State this year or in the very near future NU automatically being better, getting more wins because the coaching staff has more years of experience. When we take that as a "given" we forget about the games OSU lost to Sac State and Eastern Washington tech. Then the blatant misrepresentations: No one can ever win at Oregon State- it's impossible, but Riley did kinda because he's great. Well Dennis Erickson won in the middle of the Riley tenure at a much better rate than Riley did. That is the inconvenient truth., Can NU be a consistent 9-10 maybe even 11 win team every once in awhile with this staff? Maybe- he hasnt shown he can do that Can they consistently win- always beating the teams they should beat, not getting tripped up by the likes of MvNeese State, Sac State or Eastern Washington- I dont know, at age 62 he has yet to win a collegiate conference title There are some promising signs Well run camps and practices Some reasonably good, not great recruiting Great PR- which was to be expected The honeymoom period is in full bloom Reasonable roster management There isnt enough there to make me think these guys are the answer and Im never a fan of the guy who keeps buddies around who are failing ala Callahan or Pelini. I like how the Meyers and Sabans go after the best. There isnt enough to say they are going to bust either, so my season tickets, support and contributions will be the same as in years past.
  23. Really need to finish that GED- this is exactly what I said: As to how hard it is to win in Corvallis. Interesting that a guy like Gary Anderson who turned Utah State around from nothing to an 11 win team only 6 points away from being 13-0 and a nice run at Wisconsin would bother going there if it was so bad/impossible to win there. Will be interesting if he can replicate the big success Dennis Erickson had after Riley left the first time. Not sure how you got this out of me saying it will be "interesting": So you are saying that Anderson is going to be great at OSU without him even coaching a game. But Riley has yet to make his debut and he is already a bad choice because he was ranked 41 on a meaningless poll? It might be interesting to see which has the bigger uptick in year one I dont know a lot about Anderson- but the last guy who took over OSU for RIley did really well and he was no HOF coach Dennis E Riley greater or less than the 9 wins and +143 point differential from the Pelini team in the Big 10 Or Anderson greater or less than the 5 wins and negative 71 point point differential of Rileys OSU team in the Pac Would like to see where you would stake your life savings bet on which will do better Time will tell
  24. There are plenty in Husker Nation- people from the program who are scratching their heads about the hire Good old fashioned manners and welcoming Nebraska hospitality are what a lot of the comments are about Most everyone is going to wish the guy well Hard to dislike such a nice guy Tom Lemming- OK- remember he ranked his good buddy Bill Callahans recruiting class #1 and later admitted he did so because he wanted to give his buddy a little help. Yeah I really respect his comments.
  25. Real shame that your didnt take the time to turn on Sesame Street while you were/are living down there- could have helped you in your reading comprehension I will try to help Interesting DOESNT mean the same as as "great" Hope that helps And telling someone: this is NOT a ringing endorsement.
