  1. You know what I'm finding the most telling about the current state of our program? Where's all the outrage? Yeah there's some posts and new topics being started but the epic meltdown isn't what it used to be. We've become complacent as well.

Every year for the last 4 years its the same type of posts. After a while somehing has to change and nothing has!

  2. This team looked really good the last three games. Totally different tenor today.

The way we played, I question if the team respects Martinez. 3 sacks until today!

You realize Martinez played weeks 1, 2, and 3 right?

    And we played like crap!

But you're talking about respect and the fact that we had only allowed 3 sacks up to this point. Do you think that it may be due to a different reason (I don't know, Spencer Long was also on the field for those games) than the team not respecting Taylor?

Have you ever played the game? This is like HS when you are playing on team where the QB plays because of his dad. Its tough to get up when the best players are not on the field!

Do I have to play the game to understand that the sacks allowed could be due to a different reason than the QB? That's such a bullsh*t response. Spencer Long, our ALL AMERICAN offensive guard wasn't playing, and they got pressure EXACTLY where Spencer Long would have been playing.

Yes, it hurt not to have Long, but this was MN. A lot of time he held the ball way to long! Even Lou Hotlz said NE looked better with Amstrong! We simply quit!

You can credit all those to moundy. Dude blows.

In Moudy's defense, they asked him to block Minnesota's best D-lineman 1-on-1, and that's just stupid football. You don't put your newest guy on their best guy and not give him some help.

Agreed! Plus, Martinez held the ball too long at times and missed wide open receivers all day.

  5. Only if Brown or Fisher are named HC. Beck and Pap are not worthy

I'd say Brown. If he weren't so committed to his ministry he'd have climbed the coaching ladder long ago. The ability to lead a team is there.

NOT! Brown is a recruiter, not a coach.

  6. What a complete disgrace. Minnesota played a good game, but as usual, our team was unprepared. While I admire Bo's loyalty, it was pretty obvious mid-way through the game that Nebraska needed a jolt on offense, as Taylor was simply off today. Bo should have put in Tommy for a few drives as Taylor was indecisive and not moving well. When you take away Taylor's running game, he's just an average quarterback at best.

Martinez is an average QB, with a low IQ for the game!

  7. I so hate that it's come to this. So many good off-the-field things have come from Bo Pelini...but I don't see any other recourse right now. This is with pure objectivism. It's one thing to drop a game you shouldn't every few seasons. But every dang season this happens.

But remember who the QB is for last 4 years. Than you can throw in Ankra & Randall, neither can tackle. If Bo wants to live with these starters than he might die with them.

  8. We didn't need the Internet in the 1970s. Tom Osborne was on the hot seat from nearly the beginning. Back when people just grumbled loudly in analog real-life situations, Osborne was so aware of fan disatisfaction that he interviewed for the head coaching job in Boulder, in 1978 iirc. The scoring explosion teams of the early '80s bought him another 10 years. But again, no Internet was required. Osborne was keenly aware of his reputation for not winning the big game, and sometimes losing embarrassingly to teams perceived as more elite than Nebraska.

And you know what? He learned from that. The Huskers had been built for strength in Boyd Eppley's weight room, and looking at the elite teams beating the Huskers Osborne realized he had to recruit for defensive speed.

Absolutely a team and coach need to earn the fans' trust. They need to earn the fans' everything. College football is an entertainment product, and those fan dollars and TV contracts pay for the inflated coaching salaries. A coach doesn't need to answer to every yahoo's complaint or suggestion, but he damn well better be putting an entertaining product on the field. If Husker fans are spoiled, it's because a lot of effort went into making us the pride of college football. I think most of us are reasonable in the way we've reduced expecations, but it's hardly chippy to want to do better than a 4 loss season and at least one televised humiliation.

I mean, after awhile you learn to avoid M. Night Shamalayan movies, right?

I remember thinking that people were over-reacting because Bob D. was so good. I figured NU would never be that good again, and we should just be happy to have TO, because NU was always in the top 20, sometimes in the top 10, and almost never got blown out by any team not named Oklahoma. Then Washington blew out NU 2 years in a row and i wanted TO fired. I looked up blowout losses for TO just to remind myself. I used a point differential greater than 14 to define a blow out. It looks like Bo has suffered many more embarrassing losses than TO.

    Year Score Opponent

    1973 27-0 Oklahoma

    1975 35-10 Oklahoma

    1977 38-7 Oklahoma

    1978 30-3 Oklahoma

    1985 27-7 Oklahoma

    1988 23-3 Miami

    1989 41-17 Florida St.

    1990 45-10 Oklahoma

    1991 36-21 Washington

    1991 22-0 Miami

    1992 29-14 Washington

    1996 19-0 Arizona St.

Can not compare, as TO took over for Bob D. and Bo had to rebuild what Frankie & Calihan tore down! It is easy to recruit when you are the team. These kids were not even thinking of football when we were good. They got to watch the Huskers under 2 bad coaches.

  9. I'm beginning to wonder if the NCAA is going to declare him ineligible due to his playing in the NBL. Even if he didn't get paid to play, he was still on a contract to play professional basketball, and fair or not, that might come back to haunt. I actually work in the same Auckland suburb that Tai is from, which, I know, means absolutely nothing. But a guy I work with knows the family due to his son going to the same school, and he said in a roundabout way that grades might be a problem. And then you have to factor in equivalency as well. My wife (a Kiwi) looked into going to UNL a while ago, and determined that it'd take a lot of tests to get in, and the time span would be huge. I know, a lot of int'l student athletes have went to UNL, but it's different for each country, and I can't remember if NU has ever had an athlete from NZ.

The kid is playing a lot of ball and had to retake the tests. A lot is on his shoulders, he needs to buckle down and get his grades in order. I believe he is close and is waiting for his last test results. His priority appears to be basketball & not academics. I do not know if that is a good combinations. But I do believe he is the type player that could move our program to the next level.

  10. Biggs will not start at first, because he will be on suspension. I see Gallegos & Shields improving on last year.

Gallegos, Shields, Pitchford, Rivers or Petteway, Webster or Biggs. Then we also have Smith, Parker & Fuller, so we could see a lot of combinations.

I see Hawkins & maybe Parker or Vucetic red shirting.

Regardless, we will have more debt than last season.

  11. Fine. let's Piss on the seniors. Let's piss on the coaches. Piss on anybody that doesn't win for us. Piss on them. Get new players. Get new coaches. We are the greatest fans in college. We deserve better. New players...if you don't win we will piss on you.

    I'm out of here.

It has nothing to do with losing, but showing up to play. Listen to the coach! He said that the style of play is not where it needs to be and the young players have not had a chance to develop. We do not have depth and the injuries caused a bigger problem because of this. He is referring to hard nose baseball, something Anderson knew nothing about and these Sr. are too use to going through the motions. Too inconsistent all year

  12. All the apologist here make me laugh while at the same time frustrate the h3ll out of me. The fact is this. We aren't the worst team in the B1G but we ARE the modt pathetic. Why? Because this team has a fan base that cares. A fan base that will support through all the ups and downs. A fan base that shows up in horrid conditions to give support and this team gives nothing back. Are you flippin kidding me? We won one... that's right JUST ONE home series in the BIG...... JUST FLIPPIN 1. If that's not pathetic with the fan support given then maybe I need to reconsider what the sporting definition of pathetic is. WE WON ONLY 1 FREAKING HOME SERIES (Northwestern). Good riddens seniors... Take your losing is acceptable attitudes with you when you leave... Who here thinks we can win 4 games in the tourney? I predict we win 1 (kubat's start) is it. These seniors don't care and really don't want to win.... let them punch their tickets and move on. Hopefully with their LOSING attitudes so Erstad and Co can start rebuilding with winners.

    AMEN!

  13. I think they have had plenty of entertaining games this year. There have been a few runaways but overall they have been fairly scrappy. They have some issues and it's unfortunate that they lost Deleon right before this series and Hirsch earlier as that hurt quite a bit. I see Pierce is out as well. Pitching depth is an issue. Hopefully they can get some help next year with the new recruits. They will need to help as the offense won't be as good.

I truly believe we will be worse next year looking at the roster. It's just sad

I do not know what you are looking at! Fact #1 - we only had 2 Sr. who made an above average contribution to this team. Fact 2 - 7 So & 2 Fr. had serious playing time this year. Fact #4 - a new recruiting class (Erstad's second). Fact 4 - the main part of this team is young and they will get better.

The problem with this years team was due to the lack of meaningful contribution from this year's Sr. class.
