You need to put players on this team that know how to win. We have too many players that are use to losing and are ok with it.
-
I just do not understand all the walks with a big lead. It makes no sense. Its time to bring in a bunch of pitchers and let a few guys sit the bench or walk.
-
This game should have been won before the 9th. 2 missed bunts, pass balls by out catcher & too many left on base (lack of timely hitting).

Again.. my question isnt on closing all recruits... It is about closing the bigs.
His offensive style is going to be fast paced I assume... I wonder if he has a hard time selling that to big guys because in his offense it wont run through the center.
The 5 and 4 might be more of a defensive presence.
That is my question, can he close big men?
I think it's harder to get bigs because there are less of them. You have a lot more competition from established programs for those kind of players. If you miss on a PG or Wing you still have options. For the big fella's that's not necessarily true. So I don't think it has to do with scheme or style. I think it has to do with numbers and winning. Facilities definitely help. Just my opinion.
I agree! Quality big men are hard to find!

This question is too hard to answer right now. Nebraska did not have a big center for Miles to use. Almeida had bad knees and could not move and Ubel was a PF playing center. Both had their share of shots at times. I do believe he is looking for something that is more athletic. I also believe that we only seen a portion of Miles offense. Again, you can not judge his closing ability on the 4 PF/Cs we just lost. Don't forget Miller who decided to go to prep school, instead of play for NE. He is holding for a scholarship from MO or KS. Winning is the main key.

I agree, as he was a child playing amount men. The more athletic we get the less pressure he will see. He will get stronger and thrive in Miles offense.

Sorry Minnesota, but this is a rediculous notion: Atewe had pressure from an AAU coach, Sai lives in AZ and we were too late in the game for Ucherbo. We might have great facilities, but winning will help us recruit. Kids want to play and they want to go to the Dance.
I like that Miles is not in a big hurry to fill the schollies on the team. Because of Doc, he has to find D1 talent that want to play for NE. We cannot afford anymore transfers.
This is his first true recruiting class. Last year, he just tried to fill holes and there were a lot of them. Lets give him a little time. I am one who believes that we will be better this coming year. Also remember that we have 1 Sr. and this will be their second year under a new regime.
What is crazy about questioning his ability to close? I am not saying Miles is a bad coach or a bad recruiter or anything like that.. but we have lost out on 4 big men. 2 i dont blame him on(Akoy- Out of our league/ Uchebo-got in way to late)
I am not sharpening my pitchfork.. just bringing up a question.
Sorry Minnesota, Your view of these 4 big men are different then mine. We had an uphill battle in getting any of these guys for one reason or another. I think Miles has shown something by even getting a couple of these guys to visit. Good big men are hard to fine. I also believe that it is way to early to judge Miles ability to close.

We have one (only 1) pitcher that is even comparable to what Dave V was able to recruit. Kubat is the only pitcher with stuff capable of throwing at the D1 level.
It will take a little time to rebuild a winning team again. This team lacks solid pitching and power, but I trust that Darin will get thinks corrected in the next year or two.
-
If he was that good, he would of had an offer. I do not think Miles will fill the schollie without it helping the team. There was also mention of a couple possible transfers. Its time to wait & see what happens next.
Sorry, I am talking about the Fin, not Uchebo.

I am impressed with Indiana, as they have good pitching and can hit the ball. This is a good win and now we need to take the series!
-
The way I read the articles is that these transfers are waiting to get their scholarships released. My guess is that they would have to set out a year. It is going to take a few years to get this program turned around. We already have twice the bench we had this last year. I would think some kids will red shirt, so why not a transfer who will make our team better in a couple of years. Plus, he can practice this next year.
-
Different type of player than Atewe. He is a big strong post player. For Nebraska, he would be a team changer!
-
I am glad to hear that we are just not trying to fill the roster and that Miles is looking at center and maybe a couple of transfers.
-
Huskers play well at home! After last weekend, we could use a sweep!
-
No interest at all. He is more of a wing type player.. can shoot but we dont need that.
This is crazy. This kid can play basketball. We can use a guard with size and some athleticism. Looks like a Mike Dunleavy / Chandler Parsons / Gordon Hayward type. "Can shoot but we don't need that' ---->> Are you kidding me? Did you watch any of our games last year? Ray Gallegos was our "Best Shooter" and he shot about 30.6% 3pt and 36.1% FG -- that is not good shooting especially considering the volume. We need kids who can shoot first and foremost. We need size too. This guy would be a great addition - we would be lucky to get him. Hope he likes his visit.
There is no point in saving a scholarship. It would be better to take too many guys and have to have someone transfer. That happens all the time when new coaches come to town. Or we could rely on walkons for depth that could work too.
How did Sergej look last year?
He is a big man who cant play big.. We do not need to waste schollies on that.
Dont give a scholly to a guy just to give him a scholly... nothing on his tape impresses me.
Minnesota, I agree 100%. We need a PF/C, not another guard/wing player. Turner or Ellenson are what the Huskers need.

Back to the weekend pitchers!
-
4 HBP & 8 BB - 12 free passes and 6 SO. NICE!
-
The Huskers have very little pitching depth. It's just depressing watch the same guys pitch horribly almost every time they step on the mound.
-
It is weird saying this because football comes before basketball but I am really looking forward to watching Miles next team. I was really impressed with he was able to do from the begining of the season to the end.
I agree! I even have season football tickets!

I'm learning Coach Miles loves combo players as they make a good fit for his motion offense. It certainly could be that we might be losing a guard/wing or it could also mean that this young man is an impact player and to good to pass on. Hard to know without seeing him play. Sure seems like the staff is working hard to fill that last spot. That makes me think they can win sooner rather than later.
From your twitter link South, it sounds like the visit will be an unoffical and will happen on Tuesday. Could be he is visiting a lot of places. Sounds like he has a good relationship with the staff and has some knowledge of the needs and what the plan is.
I am also thinking if they sign a guard, Petteway will play more wing. If they sign a wing or PF, he would play more guard. Just a guess.
I agree! I think he wants to play an up tempo style of BB. And maybe Fuller is like Sheilds and is ready to be the extra wing off the bench Whatever happens, it appears that we will be much more athletic than last year. It will be fun next year.
-
Nice weekend. I think the Arkansas wins gave them confidence. Looking GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Just read a tweet from him; that said he is a combo guard. Who knows maybe we play with a smaller lineup like last year, but with more depth & pay full court defense.

If Tom was still here he would be coming to NE. Tom had his share of thugs playing for him!
