Hopefully OSU was just fired up to play their first game for a new coach & will go back to their regular ways by next week.
Purdue had 14 TOs & did not shoot the ball very good.

LOL. Horn and Olsen did their jobs. McConnaughey came in with the go-ahead runner at third, 2 outs in the 8th and got a groundout, then struck out the first batter in the 9th. The walk was unfortunate but he made a perfectly good pitch to the next batter who wound up getting a weak infield single, which may have rattled him into the wild pitch, who knows. He also struck that batter out shortly after throwing it to the backstop. Now Worthley struggled, yes. Perhaps in the future, Childress goes to somebody like Olsen instead and that inning ends with no runs across.
Both pitchers had trouble throwing strikes and threw several pitches per batter.

Relief pitching was awful - McConnaughey & Worthley struggled to throw strikes.

It helps when Penn State doesn't hit double figures in the second half until 7:34 to go in the game.
But we scored 40, which is good for a half!

2nd & 3rd with 1 out & could not score.
3 to 3 thru 6.

Maybe fantastic is a little over zealous, but to complain is being pretty nit-picky as they allowed 1 run in the first outing with a guy who was in the pen ( admittedly misused by coaches), a freshman in a leverage situation, and KP who didn’t throw amazing last year. Compared to last year in San Diego, this was fantastic. I understand that the opponent wasn’t SDSU, but if told you going in that we would allow 1 run, I am betting that 99.9 of us would be ok saying fantastic. Again, maybe a slight stretch, but closer to fantastic than solid. One double away, allowed by a freshman from a shut out . Maybe I am just referencing the performance compared to the “expectations “ rather than just simply looking at number of hits.
It is the first game & against a southern team. Good win! Oh I almost forgot - it's way too early to rationalize.

Since she played in a game, by the books it's not a redshirt year. She needs the waiver to get the year back (or an extra year, however you want to look at it). It would seem likely that it will be granted.
Just quoting what I read.

Surprised that every opponent doesn't press full court 40 minutes. This is an Achilles heel EVERY YEAR.
Not every team has the players to do so.

No doubt. And they just put in more seating to accommodate the demand Jordy Bahl brings. What a downer. Hopefully people still show up. Most of all, hopefully Jordy recovers fully, gets the medical wavier and gets two more years to play.
She is taking a red-shirt yr.

Like the men's team, they need a point guard!

Needs a little girth!

I don't know why he wouldn't take it. He wants a HC job. This is a big ten school. That right there is enough to take it.
The athletic department is a financial mess & there is no NIL funding. Thus its possibly career suicide.

Clark IS and HAS BEEN as advertised for years. Bothers me that she detracts from that by whinning and moaning AND the refs protect her so obviously.
I was laughing when she was complaining & we went down & got a 5 on 4 layup. What a whiner!

Maybe that's a bit harsh on my part. Simply put, he isn't very good because he hasn't wrestled in 4 years and his level of conditioning still isn't where it needs to be. I hate seeing him struggle after the first period. I think his size strength helped him tremendously when he was in high school. I wish he had more practice time before the season started.
I agree in HS he was a bully, a man among boys. In college, his competition is stronger & quicker. He is never going to be fast, but needs to learn to be patient. It really depends on how committed he is.

Illinois & Wisconsin have the toughest schedule as they play each other & Purdue. Could be an interesting finish!
