How about the original and only alternate of the Osborne era?  All red vs. Oklahoma in 1986!

I remember that game well.  Keith Jackson's one handed catch and I think Keith Jackson (RIP) announcing the game.  I was in HS and deciding if I wanted to walk-on.  Great game but crushing result.

I do have to say I have heard waaay too many times in sports people who think they know the result of a game before it’s played, or the result of a season or many things like that. All to be proven false. Nothing is impossible or that unlikely. We have been a crappy program for 15 years and still average top 25 classes. What do you think would happen when we get better and win games? Recruiting gets better and on and on.

I heard the narrative that because all those reasons above and a few more that a team can’t dominate college football anymore. Too much parody- then Alabama happened.

The right coach, right scheme etc is all it takes for Nebraska to climb on top. We have a young, aggressive coach who doesn’t accept no for an answer so he will push and adapt until he gets the team where he wants it. There is nothing more dangerous than a man with ambition. So saying it can’t be done or unlikely sounds like the national media in 1995 saying we have no chance against Florida because we can’t play on natural grass

Let's work on winning a game first.

Yeah it really benefits the big 10 financially to have Nebraska loose. I mean missing out on bowl games and looking like s#!t probably does wonders when they negotiate tv deals.

Or maybe their not conspiring against Nebraska. Maybe this is a undisciplined team that lacks talent and sucks all by itself. Actually I'm sure its in the big10's interest if the only traditional power in the entire western division would stop shooting its self in the dick with a bazooka every game.

    This.

    Okay...

You're right on a lot of accounts, but with Wisconsin, it just feels like this is always as good as they are going to be. It doesn't feel like they are ever going to take out the big boys. What is their recent record against tOSU, Michigan and Penn State since 2012?

    1-9

Iowa is 3-5 in the same time frame. Nebraska is.... 4-5.

That's exactly where we were with Bo. Winning tons of games but never over the hump.

So is that where you wish we were? Back with Bo doing that?

Frost is going to do that and more.

Maybe Frost will do more than the Badgers, maybe he will not.  People get upset, but the formula that NU had in the 80s and 90s is no longer possible.  A state that not only has trouble with enough recruits in state, but even the states that adjoin it are not exactly talent rich. This will take an unbelievable feat.  Back then we had Prop 48, over 100 scholarships, fewer teams on TV, more kids wanting to walk-on because there were fewer elite programs in the spotlight, etc.  We are all longing for a winning team.  Heck, right now just A win would be nice. However rising to the level of Wisky is a larger undertaking than some appear to think and reaching "dominance" is another thing altogether. It really may never happen again.

Riley was 4-8 in his third year with the program after a 30 year coaching career.

Frost is 0-6 after having a better season that Mike Riley EVER experienced.  Ever.

It does not matter to me what he did at UCF last year any more than it mattered what Riley did at OSU.  One could say that UCF has not missed a beat without him this year.  I am glad we have Frost, I really am,  but I am tired of hearing about last year at a Group of Five school that I don't care about.  There has to be a time when the kids on the roster right now respond to you, whether they are "his" kids or not.  You can't argue that zero wins more than halfway into the season is as good,  or better, than anyone.

It is a good parallel and the sooner all the fan base pulls their heads out of 1960-2001 and realize we are not that program anymore and we have a rebuild on our hands not a 1 year reload the easier things will be for people to be patient. Some fans need to chill and not over analyze every single word and action and just let the process play out over a few years and I think year by year things begin to resemble huskers of old again. Patience is hard but I trust in Frost

Agree.  We all have been thinking it is a re-load.  It used to be that but things got so far away from the culture of winning, toughness,  and accountability.  This is a complete rebuild unlike we have seen.

  7. One of the greatest silver linings of all these departures is the fact that we will have more scholarships to give out for those who wish to be here.  More opportunities for the right kids with the right work ethic and commitment to the future of this program. Get them on campus with a chance to play sooner rather than later.  GBR.

  8. Just something in the realm of college football as a distraction from our season.  Halfway through the season, what are your predictions for the playoff?

    I am thinking

    Alabama

    Ohio State

    Notre Dame

    West Virginia

I see Clemson losing and Georgia a strong argument, but selection going to Notre Dame and two conference champs (OSU and WVU).

True.  But, what incentive does this particular player have to lie?  Further, you saw the game...you saw how it played out...the way Nebraska played lends incredible credence to what this particular Michigan player said.

Exactly.  Not as if the tape looks different.  That said, low class move to make those comments.  I hate Alabama, but I don't see Saban's team needing to make such comments when they dominate a team.

We suck and those of us who are sane expected that.  With that said, I am disappointed in this team's lack of fire and "want-to."   To steal an old baseball adage, "Hustle doesn't go into a slump."  That adage came to mind when I watched the punt return for a TD.  The lack of effort was embarrassing.

Regardless of our record, I'll consider this season a success when I see our players consistently hustle and care about the product on the field.  Frankly, it's a low bar but it's where we are as a program right now.

Agree.  Being out of position and waving at guys with failed arm tackling didn't look good either.

One of the guys I work with has season tickets and said last week there were idiots shouting fire frost after the game while walking out.

There will never be a lack of idiots regardless of where you are or what the topic.

  12. So far, I have seen nothing to convince me that this team is better than last year.  But if you think about it, why should it be?  We were and remain to be far more than tougher weight room workouts, more energy, and a new scheme, from being competitive.   Frost has very few of the players he recruited on the field.
