If there's one guy, other than Nick Saban, who I know for certain is not coming here, it's Luke Fickell. Might as well get that thought out of your mind now and save yourself the disappointment later.

I don't think anyone hates him. He's a good, not great, coach and he's a safe hire. I think many just feel that we can do better.

What about him isn't great, though?

He routinely beats bigger schools, builds a culture of success, and almost was the USC coach. He's probably one of the 10 best coaches in the country.

I got a question let's just say Urban Meyer does get hired.  Do you think that their would be alot of blow back bc of his checkered past and if so from whom Husker fans or outsiders? Also do you think that parents wouldn't want to send their kids here bc of him? I've heard that argument against him so that's why i ask.

Blow back would subside once he starts winning and bringing in 5 star players.

Parents would not care once their kids get paid

I think that Mark Stoops needs to be a top 3 candidate for sure. He would bring back that blue collar smash mouth mentality back that we so badly need.

What he’s done at Kentucky is damn impressive. Way more so than Campbell IMO. Plus he actually beats rated teams unlike Campbell.

    Campbell has beaten Oklahoma State (25), Oregon (25), Texas (20), Texas (19),Oklahoma (18), West Virginia (6) , TCU (4) and Oklahoma (3).

    What else do you want?

Word on the street is that there was mutual interest last year between Nebraska and Campbell before the boosters/admin neutered Trev.

    But why wouldn't there be?

The natural places for him to land (Ohio State and Penn State) aren't opening anytime soon, (well, Ohio State isn't)

His conference is imploding. Michigan State and Michigan aren't in the cards. That leaves Nebraska and Iowa. He's just playing process of elimination

    NIL, imo

I was on this boat this morning, but from reading into how Trev answered the question about a booster stepping up, it seems like the money came from someone specifically for this purpose.

If someone is that husked that they are willing to give the University 7.5 mil to get Frost out 20 days early, they better be just as willing to pony up for a big name coach. What booster could this be??

Yep. This is something only people in a leadership position could truly understand.

Alberts seems to have listened to boosters last year to keep Frost and listened to them today to let him go.

They don’t need to have anyone ready for the next coach. Need to make the first move, especially with 9 games still left in the year, and a big opponent in Oklahoma.

It's worth 7.5 million dollars to change the talking points on TV? This season is toast

Because after 20 years we all know that nobody real or good is coming here. Either our guys are not committed enough to bring them in or we don't offer enough upside to motivate power coaches to want to take on the challenge. One way or the other, the big brain coaches are not going to don the scarlet and cream, that we all feel in our poor, miserable souls.

I'm sure he can go on administrative leave for a few weeks or something.

How do figure this? We are in one of the two conferences you want to be in with one of the only self sufficient athletic departments in the country. Yes, everyone in the Big Ten has money, but not everyone in the Big Ten doesn't have to spend that money on a science building or a dining hall. We also seem to have boosters who are willing to pay coaches and into the NIL with the best of them.

And if he is interested then you tell him there are no limits on how much money is in the pot for his coaches he wants or needs to bring on. Also even though he left Utah after 2 years I never heard anything bad about his time there.

He kinda lied his way out the door, iirc.

No it can't be!!!! This has to stop. Nebraska with this hire has to go get a established coach that will immediately win and certain coaches will and are capable of doing that. Scott wasn't one, Riley wasn't, Bo wasn't, Callahan wasn't and look how far Nebraska has fallen. We got beat by a Sun Belt team. No way that would ever happen if we had a established winning head coach here. I don't think Nebraska is necessarily the problem anymore its the coaching. Nebraska could and should have the best coaches and assistant coaches that money can get you but we haven't done that and winning has taking a back seat. Nebraska needs to go say we have no limits on how much you the head coach wants to pay for your assistant coaches no limit pool. Instead of trying selling what Nebraska has to offer go ask the coach what we can do for him to succeed and make it happen.

I get what you are saying, but they did that. Frost was the hottest name they hired him. Whipple is the type of guy you are talking about.

All of these players are likely gone when Frost gets let go. A name like a Urban will want his own guys anyway. A rebuild is OK and doesn't have to be as painful as Frost made us think it had to be.

Its not that I don't think that Matt Rhule isn't a good coach but to me it would be a rebuild. What makes you think that it wouldn't be anything else other then? Do you think he would create enough buzz? Nebraska needs national recruits to win bc clearly walk-ons truthfully aren't getting it done. Now don't get me wrong I think Brody Belt is a solid player but you need football players like Trey Palmer to stretch the field.

That's the thing. It is a rebuild.

Why is everyone fastinated with Rhule? Yes he had success at Temple and Baylor but his overall ncaa record is 47-43 thats not really going to draw big time recruits to Nebraska Im sorry.

He also doesn't need big time recruits. His eye for talent is very good. His Temple teams took no name guys and put them into the NFL where they have become star players-Dawkins, Reddick. His 2016 offensive line was an act of God.

The only thing I can see being an issue is he is an East Coast guy, (but that didn't stop him in Waco), and his dream job is Penn State and their dream coach is Matt Rhule.
