I've seen a few other people make that comparison too. Hopefully, Deion can help bring CU back from financial distress, but this could be a disaster.

The comparison link is in the Colorado game thread.

It was SSO.  And as I pointed out there, SSO knows his stuff, but this comparison is a reach.

Sanders is tenfold the recruiter that Frazier was.  And Frazier didn't already have a rolodex of talented transfers like Sanders has.

If I heard correctly, Sanders got four incoming transfers yesterday including two on the DL.

The comparison to Frazier at Doane is a complete stretch.

I think sums it up pretty well.

I like the Tommie Frazier comparison.  As the writer stated, this isn’t Jackson State either.

I just don’t see how this works.  I think those that be successful in the future and those that can build a team in a society of individuals (social media & NIL).  I don’t think coach “Prime” is doing that.

SSO has great insights.  But comparing Frazier at Doane to Sanders at CU is way off.

Sanders is bringing in a multitude of transfers, with a core of them being feom Jackaon Stste.....including the #1 player in the country from 2022.

And several of the transfers from lower levels were top performers.....similar to when Busch brought in high performing kickers from lower divisions.

And the group of assistants Sanders brought in is more impressive than any of Nebraska's last three staffs.

......so kinda like Frazier at Doane.  Except not at all.  I think SSO is more wishful than accurate with this one.

Here is a crazy look at the WR position group under Frost.  Talk about a complete disaster...

With Alante Brown entering the transfer portal, 14 of the 17 High School WR recruits in the Frost era left the program with remaining eligibility. Only 1 of those 14 spent more than 2 years on the roster. Only 4 of the 17 caught more than 1 pass. Only 2 of the 17 caught a TD.

At least we now have a qualified, experienced WR coach.

OK...that's fine.  But, that's not the conversation that you responded to.

Your literally typed that your point was if Raiola doesn't commit to us.  You have doesn't in all caps.

    LOL….yeah sure.

So, your opinion is that where Raiola says he’s going to isn’t going to have any affect on where this QB says he’s going.

    mmmm….k

I'm saying if Raiola verbals somewhere other than Nebraska in March, Rhule will keep recruiting him and there'd be no question about an availability for him.

Well we kinda know. Bo left Nebraska for his hometown school Youngstown State, and his very forgiving and supportive ally Jim Tressell as his University President. Bo went 33-28 at YSU, ripped the fans, lost a game by arguing with the refs, recruited and played a convicted rapist against the wishes of almost everyone, including Tressell, and was gone after 5 seasons in an awkward mutual parting and cloud of recruiting violations. Bo then landed back at another friendly confine, his former position as DC at LSU, where he put together one of the worst defensive seasons in LSU history and was quickly chased out of town. At age 56, Bo Pelini is no longer coaching anywhere. If Nebraska made a mistake, not a single college was able to take advantage of it.

Bo Pelini also got contract extensions, increased recruiting budgets, and a big PR push at Nebraska. In addition to blaming the administration, Bo also blamed the fans and the media whenever things went south. He wanted out of Nebraska as early as 2011. For some reason loyalty only worked in one direction for him. He could have shut everyone up by winning the big games --- he had complete control over that -- but in his seventh year at Nebraska, only two P5 schools had worse records against ranked teams than Bo Pelini's Nebraska. At some point you can't keep making this a Perleman and Eichorst hissy fit.

Transport yourself back to 2014 and declare yourself fine with 9-4 seasons, second tier conference status and no relevance in national college football for the foreseeable future because 9 win seasons are hard to come by. You'd be really lonely in that assessment. As it should be.

I'm well aware of your thoughts on Pelini and really who cares any longer.  Once he was fired, that was it.

With Perlman however, he got rid of both his nemeses Pelini and Osborne and then had every opportunity at his disposal to put in place first the athletic director then the head coach to help Nebraska football take the next step....which was not just playing for,  but winning conference championships.

You can spend pages letting us know for the umpteenth time how you feel about Pelini.  Perlman let us know in his retirement speech how well he handled Nebraska football.

......and this was after asking Osborne to save his arse after the Pederson debacle.

Oh definitely, if we get Raiola, he's going somewhere else.  I think it's telling that Raiola is scheduled to announce at the end of march and he wants to make a decision in spring or early summer.

My point is about if Raiola DOESN'T commit to us, I hope we have done enough to keep here.

The only "commit" that matters is the signed dotted line which can't happen until December 2023 at the earliest.

^ Personally, I think the odds of it all going down in flames hilariously are pretty high. Especially if the rumors that Colorado ain't got the money to pay him are true...

Well, since the CU AD has literally said they don't have the money it's not exactly rumor.

What they are referring to is his full contract, not his immediate salary.

It's obvious that Rhule and Deion are going on 2 different paths when it comes to his assistant coaches staff.  Rhule went with guys that he knows are going to be in lock-step with him, while Deion is going with the "All-Star" assistant coaching staff.  I don't know which approach is going to work better.   I think big names can make Deion's coaching staff seem better, but will Deion get them to all work in the same direction?  That's easier said than done.

Which method have we been begging for the past 2-5 years?

Deion is doing fine in the portal because he brought guys with him from JSU, one of which is his son.  Credit him for getting Hunter to JSU in the first place but other than that there isn't much there.

    A two-star from Fresno State

    A two-star from JSU

    A mid-three-star from Missouri State

    A no-star from JSU

    A low-three-star from Louisville

    A low-three-star from JSU

    A low-three-star from JSU

    A mid-three-star from West Virginia

    A mid-three-star from Clemson

    A high-three-star from Arkansas

    A high-three-star from Kent State

    A mid-three-star from Western Michigan

    A mid-three-star from South Florida

    A mid-three-star from Dartmouth

He is mainly doing well in the portal rankings because he has taken over twice as many transfers as most anyone else.  If the above list was our transfer list, people would be incredibly underwhelmed.

According to 247's system, Colorado has 71.41 transfer points on 20 commits, which averages to 3.57 per commit.  Nebraska has 37.28 points on 8 commits, which is 4.66 per commit.  That's not a perfect comparison but it illustrates that a lot of the high ranking is due to quantity, not necessarily quality.

I agree that the ranking has a lot to do with quantity.  That's why I said he's doing "just fine" in the portal Mav.

Assistant coaching hires are more my frustration which I thought I made the point of in my post.  Sanders is adding Zimmer and Taggart as analysts.

A big deal was made of our assistant coaching salary pool and some of the hires are head scratching.

Several posters and SSO have said "we'll see" which is obviously all we can do.

What?  We were sitting with the #60 class in the country when Rhule took over and now we are sitting with the #25 class and they are at #44.  Why the hell would Deion be the "standard for an A"?

The Deion worshiping that some people are doing is getting ridiculous.

I don't know about "standard for an A" and "Deion worshipping" is a deflection or a lack of knowing what he's doing at Colorado.

There is a coaching search thread that I believe was 700 or 800 pages.  It has many opinions of what is needed in this era of college football which includes the transfer portal

Two primary things were a splash head coach who is an ace recruiter and experienced, qualified assistant coaches.

I figures Sanders would do just fine with the portal....and he is.  But the connections he brought in as assistant coaches and analysts is very impressive.

He knows recruiting in Texas and La.  A good addition for contacts and player eval.  Recruiting is the big first step for NU imo.  On the field won’t get much better until the team gets more athletic.

If he was that good, he'd be with his dad at T Tech....they need help recruiting against the Texas big boys UT, A&M, Houston and TCU.

No kidding.  People need to chill the eff out.  I have said this is a long re-build, which can be sped up a tad through the transfer portal, but long-term, consistent programs are built through high school recruiting and development, not the transfer portal.

The portal hasn't been in existence long enough to make a statement about the long term comparison.
