    It’s an unsustainable number.

Unsustainable is the number of Boomers that die/ leave the workforce on a daily basis. Every Boomer that dies is one more hole in the economy, one less buyer of goods, one less consumer to pay into the US economic system. Every Boomer that retires is one more hole in staff that won't be filled. We simply have not reproduced at a rate to maintain our economic growth engine, either through consumer demand, or producers of goods. This is why businesses are going to subscription business models. Then they are essentially selling the same good to the same customer every year. But, not all businesses can do that either. Without immigrants our economy, as we know it, will not survive.

Meh...there will be a few that rage when he makes mistakes.  But, the vast majority of Husker fans will realize he's a true freshman.  The true rage will be if, even with him playing, we don't see any improvement in QB play.  I think there is a very small chance of that....even if DK is the QB.

Yeah... this was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO true of the last true freshman we had playing QB. Husker fans are so rational and understanding that I'm sure Dylan will receive a pass from the fan base when he makes rookie mistakes. Two losses and most of the board will have him listed as a Bust* and be debating whether we burn DK's shirt or give Haarberg a chance.

    Let me break this down:

You originally said: "This is why it makes me shake my head when people drool over fullbacks and tight ends.  All you do when you go to a heavy formation is bring more defenders into the box.  Which is more guys to block, more blocks to not screw up and just generally more traffic to work through."

The topic of this thread was a pie in the sky model our offense after SF idea.  You know, one of the only teams in the NFL that still uses a FULLBACK and TE regularly on the same play formation.  The niners seem to have zero issue combatting a stacked box.  Kyle Shanahan has been on record many a times saying he loves seeing a stacked box because thats exactly what he wants to trick the defnese into.... have them expect the run and gash them on a pass play out of the same exact formation they've seen a run from many times in that game.  Its one of the major reasons as to why Deebo, Kittle and CMC all lead their respective positions in RAC yardage (how's that for stats?).

You then disregard my response and try and morph the argument into an NFL vs. college conversation.

Then when I acknowledge some differences in the game, you basically say unless i back things up with stats I'm lying, but its ok for you to drop zero stats and make a point where we have to accept your assertion at face value.

Lastly, what about this exchange is not relevant to the original conversation?  SFs success is due to a multitude of things- one of the biggest tho is how multiple they are in play formations and plays they can out of it.  You literally responded saying it makes you shake your head when people drool over FB and TEs.  This is why I said you r stuck in 2004.  You act as if the offense has a play, see's what the defense runs and goes "aww shucks, they have 8 or 9 in the box, we're stuck with what we designed, lets hike it anyways".

It makes sense if your goal is to attack the perimeter.

Yes that is soo important.  Build by retaining.  I think this is emphasized in an even greater way by those who chose to come back but could have gone to the NFL or just finish their college career.   If DR signs and lives up to the hype, I could see him here for 3 years. He starts as a true freshman.  Then he hands the reigns over to DK who would have 2 years of eligibility left if he redshirts this year. DK can get some experience in 4 games next year.   Purdy, if he stays, could be a reliable backup this next season.  This would be tremendous for building our QB room back to where it needs to be.

Sad thing is, we are seeing several successful starting QBs give up their job at current, top tier schools to chase $$$$$. Boosters are going to have to be ready to pony up to keep DR, even if we do land him. Ge could start next year and be gone the  year after to Ohio State or Bama and a $5 million price tag. QBs are going to be like successful coaches on steroids because they only have 4 years to maximize their value.

I think he's a good OC. Even during his time here, there was a lot of praise from neutral observers about his scheme and gameplans. It was just all of the other stuff that he was terrible at, and then the scheme suffered trying to make up for self-inflicted deficiencies.

That said Iowa isn't a good fit. The Big Ten in general is tough, but I think he could run a good offense in the right situation. But a lot of head coaches (Ferentz included) would have limitations on how he runs the offense and I don't see Frost going for that.

Scott Frost's offense behind an offensive line he'll inherit from Iowa would be downright dangerous. Anyone thinking different if fooling themselves. Under Frost we moved the ball exceptionally well, but didn't have the brute strength in the lineman in the red zone. Iowa does.

He shouldn't have to compete.  He is a starter and shouldn't have to sit his last year in college.  Any school that he chooses to play at should guarantee him the starting role.  Most schools that bring in transfer qb's guarantee them that role obviously Nebraska is didn't and has to be loyal to the kids they have on their roster or else we has fans lose our s***t.  All I know is McCord isn't a scrub qb.

Rhule and Co learned with Sims not to guarantee a starting spot.

In the back half of the season when we played our best competition, please show me these teams getting so much penetration that we "failed to maintain contact" and were owned.

Of guys with more than 10 carries we have 8 who averaged over 4 yards per carry. 3 are RBs with more than 20 carries, and 3 are the QBs. We had 642 more rushing yards than 2022 and average 53.5 more rushing yards per game than last year. Like I said, I'm not a fan of our running backs who played the majority of the season and I think that is a position of need, but combined, our top 3 RBs accounted for over 1000 yards on the season. QBs were 846 yards, and we all know HH had plenty of designed runs called, not just scrambles. Sims long run against CU was also a designed run if I remember right (and that one play is almost a 3rd of his rushing yards)

Regarding pass pro. Iowa was probably the 2nd best defense we played all season and was one of our offensive line's best games I'm pass pro. In another thread I noted that there was only one real break down in protection from the OL when Iowa brought 6 guys on a blitz. The 2 sacks are on Purdy. His fumble, and another when he stepped up instead of rolling out with decent protection. Most of the game Purdy was scrambling when he had a clean pocket but no one open, not because he was actually feeling pressure.

Honestly the biggest liability this season in pass pro and run blocking was our TEs, but nobody ever mentioned that. It's too easy to blindly blame a historically bad group even if they are better now.

Better doesn't mean good. A 2 star oline will make a 5 star RB/QB look like an FCS player. Maybe we achieved 3 star Oline play, I'll concede they did play "better." Doesn't mean that Oline shouldn't be upgraded, and my point take is it should be a higher priority than RB. I'd rather have 5 star oline play with 3 star QBs/RBs, than a 3 star line and 5 Star skill.

Honestly this is a tired and lazy take at this point. The O line showed significant improvement throughout the year, and there is enough talent/development that I'm not too concerned. You're not the 2nd best rushing team in the B1G and 3rd best in the future conference with a s#!tty line.

I do think the RB room was very lacking after our 1st and 2nd stringers went down, and not knowing if they will come back 100% is concerning. We have athletic and strong guys in the backfield but they all lack vision. There were so many missed cut backs this year that it made my head spin. We needed somebody with the vision of an Ameer or Rex (not even the athletic ability) and we'd be bowling this year even with the QB situation.

2nd best rushing team in the BIG, only when we played other BIG west teams. Our oline was owned by every team we played from the east, and lets not forget that a lit of our rushing yardage came from QB scrambles that only happened because opposing team's dline got so much penetration that they failed to maintain contain.

"We're the second best rushing team in the BIG" is a lazy take that ignores the quality of teams we faced and the obvious line deficiencies masked by outlier large gains that were created much more by QB athleticism than oline play.

Rumors are floating around that Trevor Etienne the number one running back in the portal could be making a visit to Nebraska soon.

I don't get this- QB - great, a postion of need. WR- great, also a position of need. RB???- I think we have a strong group. What's missing? The MOST IMPORTANT PIECES!!! Where are the 5 star Olinemen transfers that will make it possible for the skill players to do their thing? McCord and Riola, Etienne, etc can't do crap if they don't have protection/ holes or get injurred because of our Swiss cheese oline. Bring in the big uglies dang it.

  10. Thought we all agreed, that if Ukraine ceded land to Russia to end the war, all Putin would do is wait 10 years for another generation of soldiers and arms to come of age and then attack again for more. There is no appeasing Russia under Putin. To suggest otherwise is failing to understand Putin's mindset.

Safe to assume you also believe Iowa won 10 games because of their QB play? He caught the snaps, had a season long run of 18 yards, and averaged throwing one touchdown pass every other game! He played the most important position on the field.

My sarcastic comments aside, I was impressed that we were able to win with Haarberg as our QB. He did an admirable job under the circumstances. That said, I hope the coaches can find or coach up other QBs to handle leading the team next year. I do not currently see a lot of upside with HH as our quarterback in the future.

Iowa's offense runs through their running back. Ours runs through the quarterback. Besides, everyone knows Iowa's MVP is their punter. :cheers

Fixed it for you.  Haarberg is a horrendous Div 1 QB. To argue otherwise is insanity.

Derp. You didn't fix anything, Haarberg might not be the best QB out there, but we would not have won those games if he wasn't on the field. No other QB on our roster would have won those games. Haarberg was the primary contributor on offense. We won because of him, to argue otherwise is dumb. That he may not be the long term solution for us a QB does not dimish his significant contributions in our wins.
