  1. Assuming this is Bo's last year, I would prefer that we pick up a coach that's actually had head coaching experience. I don't want to waste 2 or 3 years to give on the job training to some coordinator. There's a big difference between being the top man overseeing the entire staff and team, and being a specialty coach looking at one facet of the game. Most on here are right that...it will be difficult to lure an experienced head coach from one of the 5 major conferences, so we'll likely need to look for a top coach that has done well historically in the smaller conferences, or one that is emerging. In looking through many of these posts, the Pelini defenders are getting fewer and fewer each week, which means there really are no excuses left and no reason to keep Pelini after this season.

  2. Bo does seem to have an interesting connection to TM and it's getting strange to the point that he loves him so much he wants to see him play his last down so they can take a train out of Lincoln together? I honestly want the best for the program, BO, and Tmart but it does seem to me that something really odd has to be going on for us to watch what we did today, find out what we did today, and then not be able to follow the plan the last few weeks that got us wins, tough day for Husker Nation but we still control our own destiny and this team has played well we just need to have some fun

I agree with you. I honestly think Bo takes the loyalty thing to a fault. Bo knows that Taylor holds a lot of records at Nebraska now, and it was Bo's decision to start him as a freshman. Now that Taylor is a senior, hurt, and having his worst year ever (per game averages), Bo should be putting in Armstrong, but is too damn loyal to TM. I hope he realizes his loyalty is going to cost him his coaching position at Nebraska.

  3. Regardless if the coaches understood the extent of Martinez's injuries, based upon how he was performing in the game (including some of the changes Taylor called in the game), Pelini should have removed him, period. Pelini has run out of excuses, and at the end of the day, the buck stops with him.

  4. I just posted this same comment in another thread. Minnesota has essentially copied Wisconsin's offense which we've never been able to stop. I would have thought Bo would have found a way to do so by now, but maybe he's not as competent on defensive as everyone thinks he is.

  5. Minnesota must have watched a lot of the Big Ten championship game tape as they ran the same exact sweep offense that Wisconsin did, moving guys at the line just before the snap. Our defense was so clueless, just as they were last December. Is Bo not smart enough to realize that...when Taylor is not running the ball well, he's a sub-par quarterback.

  6. What a complete disgrace. Minnesota played a good game, but as usual, our team was unprepared. While I admire Bo's loyalty, it was pretty obvious mid-way through the game that Nebraska needed a jolt on offense, as Taylor was simply off today. Bo should have put in Tommy for a few drives as Taylor was indecisive and not moving well. When you take away Taylor's running game, he's just an average quarterback at best.

  7. I think the fans will cheer for the players regardless of Bo's antics and anger management issues. They are their to support the team. If Bo wanted to do what is best for the team, he would let them come out on their own, or with some of the assistant coaches, so he is not once again the spectacle representing Nebraska football. I don't agree with somebody privately taping Bo, but at the same time, this is not the first time he's looked like a complete fool and shown a lack of discipline and maturity. And at the end of the day, it's his poor on the field performance as a head coach that should be the center of attention now.

  8. Sipple made some comments that haven't received much attention and one I believe is worthy of a separate thread. Sipple explained that Bo's "disagreements" with the media usually occur while he is trying to protecting a player or players. Bo was pissed, at the time, with stories "attacking" Martinez, and the fact that the student section was booing the players during the game. I remember this occurring at the time and Bo pretty much saying the same in public without the language.

The point is that, just like a protective parent, sibling or friend, a coach should have his player's backs. We should support this, not attack it. It is admirable. They are young student athletes, not paid professionals, who are trying their best. Moreover, do you disagree with his comments when they are put in context? I sure as hell don't.

I just read this article on LJS as well, and really get annoyed with Sipple sometimes. He always tries to walk this line of making a point, but making sure he doesn't offend anyone in the process. Rather than coming out and blaming Bo for his poor coaching performance on the field, and suggesting that he should be let go for that and that alone, Sipple goes after the person who released this tape. I agree that the timing is poor, and if it was going to get released, last December after the Big 10 championship game, or after the bowl game, would have been a better time for many reasons. With that said, Bo should never have made those comments about the fans. I can understand his frustration with the media, but cursing the fans is silly. I was at that Ohio State game where this took place, and there was a very light chorus of boos at halftime, but Bo did not have his team ready to play. Moreover, it was the fans in the 3rd and 4th quarters in the middle of a downpour that hung around to support the team. Bo essentially had his Paula Dean moment, and made inappropriate comments about the wrong groups (the fans).

  9. I agree that the timing of this tape is suspect, but it still does not take away from Pelini's performance as a coach, and his inability to demonstrate progress and show he's able to move his teams in the right direction. In 2008 and 2009, Pelini had the program on the rise, and successfully turned it around from the Callahan years. But since 2010, he's had the program moving sideways, it not downhill. That is why Nebraska should consider a coaching change. If the person releasing this tape was hoping for that outcome, perhaps he or she should have chosen to do so after the humiliation in the Big Ten championship last December, and allowed the administration time to find a qualified replacement, and the team to accept their new leadership and move on.

  10. I completely disagree with Bo's comments and agree with most who want him out. With that said, for the sake of our players and fans, whoever had this tape should have found a better time to release it that was not in the middle of the football season. This story is now growing on other outlets, and as this becomes a national story, the NU Board will have no choice but to act, and my guess is they will not allow Bo to hang around for the rest of the season...so what in the heck do we do for an interim head coach. Shame on Bo for making these comments, and shame on the "leakers" for putting this out at such a bad time.

Anybody know if TO would like to coach again?

  11. I think Nebraska needs to find another coach with head coaching experience that has proven he can win big games with less talent, and in a location where it's difficult to attract talent. Hello Chris Peterson (Boise St head coach).

  12. I'm not sure about Scott Frost, but I would welcome Chris Peterson any day. He's is a competent leader that has proven he can win big games even when his team has less talent and is deemed the underdog.

  13. I agree with many comments that have been posted today in the aftermath of another ugly loss by Pelini's team. As a team, and a fan base, our ultimate goal every year is to win the national championship, or winning our conference and going to a major bowl game. The loss to UCLA today likely eliminates any hopes of a national championship, but Nebraska has yet to play a conference game and still has an opportunity to make it to a major bowl. With all that said, one basic expectation that most fans have of their team is to demonstrate progress, whether that's week to week, or year to year. This is honestly where my frustration lies with Pelini as a head coach. Whether it's missed tackles, miscommunication, or turning over the ball, Pelini's squads have a reputation for coming up soft in games that count. But the real lack of progress lies with Pelini and his coaching staff. How much longer can someone claim Bo is a defensive genius after performances like today in which he was not able to have his team make adjustments after the opposition made adjustments. Great coaches hire great coordinators who know how to make in-game adjustments, and who are able to put their team back in the position of being the aggressor. My guess is that Bo hopes the fan base will sweep this humiliating loss under the rug again and pretend it didn't happen, but there are only so many humiliating losses that can be endured by a fan base. Had Bo's staff made appropriate adjustments today, and they still came up short in a close one, I would certainly be disappointed, but at least it would have been a sign of hope and progress.
