If anybody recalls that Taylor Martinez breakout game vs K-State, the coaches kept him out of passing situations, and ran option or QB draws on 3rd & long that produced explosive plays (as shown above).  He started to unravel the more they asked him and he tried to be a drop back passer.

Back to the topic of getting receivers down field.  They did try to get Fidone down field on a corner or deep over that resulted in holding or a PI and they've tried to get Hill deep a few times (which is telling).  Coleman must not be ready, but he does jump off the LOS, close cushion quickly, and certainly has the athletic profile of a deep threat.  If they could get him involved, it might not lighten the tackle box, but it would create some space in the short to intermediate areas for Kemp to work underneath him.  Regardless, this offense desperately needs to identify somebody who can loosen coverage on the back end.

Agree. Neither HH or Sims are pocket passers. With that in mind, we need the QB that can best manage a run heavy offense and then make passes when necessary. That offense with a solid defense will get 6 wins.

  2. In looking at HH's game, it reminds me a bit of Taylor Martinez. Like Martinez, HH has impressive breakout speed and running ability but his passing motion is not ideal. Martinez had a much better line to work with than HH currently has, but I am not getting those critical of HH over the past 2 games. No QB is perfect, but he has done everything asked of him in his first 2 starts.

No.  He did the same thing last week.  He threw a ball right to a LB from NIL and the kid dropped it.  Two of his completions to Fidone probably get picked as well.  And a lot of his throws have been nowhere near anyone.  He missed Kemp being wide open and decided to try to get his backup Rb killed by dumping it off to him.  That probably could have been intercepted as well.  They both have made mistakes but one has benefited from not playing against the same skill level.  People are acting like HH is playing lights out and he's not.  I think both of them have some work to do

Sims has started 25 total games in college. HH has started 2 and already has shown he has the "It" factor and can manage the offense and make some big plays while not turning the ball over. If HH had been the starter all season Nebraska would be 3-1 right now and tied for first in the BIG West.

  4. 1. Rhule and staff appear to be good at halftime adjustments.

    2. The O-line is still our top issue.

    3.  HH is a gamer and would have helped Nebraska beat Minnesota. He managed the game well, and when given time to throw was very accurate. Most of his incompletions came from immediate pressure.

    4. I attended today's game, and the last game I attended in Lincoln was the Akron game that never happened due to lightning.  Maybe I should only watch on TV from here on out.

They are?  Numbers say they are pretty similar.  And both terrible.

    SP+

    La Tech #96 overall

    NIU #119 overall

    ESPN FPI

    NIU #104

    La Tech #115

NIU beat Boston College and LA Tech does not have a comparable win. Perhaps I am putting too much emphasis on the BC win, but I don't see LA tech being able to keep up with BC.

I don’t have a problem with Rhule putting him back ahead of HH. He shouldn’t lose the #1 job because of injury. But I will have a problem if he doesn’t get yanked after committing yet another unforced turnover. And I did have a problem with Rhule not pulling him from the CU game. I guess I’m willing to give them both another chance before getting too excited.

I would agree if Sims had just one game of high turnovers but we have seen that in both games.  Maybe Sims will magically approve but I am not confident.

Also, HH looks to be a much more accurate passer than Sims who has started 25 games. If Sims has not become a good passer in that timeframe, I am not confident he will learn that now.

  7. Rhule's decision to go back to Sims given the 3 games we have seen this seen is mind boggling and has lowered my confidence in Rhule.  NIU is quite a bit better than LA Tech so Sims will need to help the team win by at least 30 points.

I'm fine with selection of Satterfield. No concern with his play calling and scheme. I have do have serious concerns about Sims. And no I don't have to tie my opinion of Sims to Satterfield.

Its hard to ignore the connection of Satterfield with Sims. After all Satterfield predicted Sims would have a breakout year.  And the offensive woes go beyond just Sims. It is still early and Rhule needs 3 years to turn this around, but Satterfield was the most questionable hire, especially given he is the highest paid NU assistant in history.
