While true, we have to be honest and say that Satterfield is an absolute disaster. And Rhule hired him.

Why he calls long developing pass plays with a liability at QB is terrible, let alone with the left side of the OL being a dumpster fire. He should realize his QB room is limited, and needs to develop an offense around the few strengths his QBs have, which is running the ball.

But instead of developing an RPO based simple offense using the strength of his players, we're seeing one of the worst scoring offenses in the country, which is simultaneously penalty prone AND turns the ball over at an obscene rate. Rhule and Satterfield insist on this pro-style attack when anybody with eyes and a half dozen firing neurons in their brain can see is an absolute disaster.

I agree about Satterfield and have shared that he was my least favorite hire. With that said, Rhule still inherited a program that is in its worse shape in 65 years.  I am disappointed in the slow start and turnover-prone offense, but we need to give the new staff time.

  2. Matt Rhule has shown he can turn a college program around in 3 seasons twice. As bad as Nebraska looks now, he needs to be given time just as Mike Rikey and Scott Frost were given at least 3 seasons. With that said, here are a couple other things to keep in mind:

    1. Frost left this program in the worst position its been in since the 1950s.

    2. I cannot remember the last time Nebraska opened a season on the road 2 weeks in a row against P5 teams.

  3. Satterfield had a bad first game.

    1. We were winning a grind it out game when he decided to increase passing in the 2nd half. One drive we threw 3 straight times and gave the ball right back to MN.

    2. Calling plays to keep Sims in the pocket plays to Sims weakness. Sims is not a pocket passer and does not see the field well in the pocket

    3. Poor play calling in the red zone.

This was never getting fixed in one offseason, despite all the videos and culture talk people love to eat up. Be patient. This is all about building for the future in 24 and beyond. A bowl isn't happening probably, save yourself that disappointment now, that isn't a good Minnesota team we saw tonight.

I agree that it takes time to rebuild, but at the same time we have had the athletes to compete the past couple years. It has been the decision making of the QBs and OC that has cost us many games.  Those are things that should be able to get corrected quickly when you have the chance to hire a new OC and select a new QB.

  5. Tony White was a great hire. Satterfield sucks. He made many questionable calls in the 2nd half and needed to keep Sims running or rolling him out rather than sitting in the pocket. Sims is NOT a pocket passer and fails to see the defense when he sits in the pocket.

    I'm just sick.

You have points in your pocket in the first half. Instead of kicking the chip shot field goal, you elect to go for the TD. INT in the end zone.

You have a guy with fumbling issues in camp, so instead of your thumper, you put the fumbler in late. Guess what? He fumbles.

And then your defense, which has been playing well all game, gives up a TD drive at the end of the game.

And THEN your running QB throws a late pick.

Tony White good, Marcus Satterfield not good.

Rutgers and Michigan is at 11am on BTN.  Maryland at Michigan State is at 2:30 on ESPN.  Minnesota at Northwestern is TBD.  Ohio State vs Notre Dame is at 6:30 on NBC.  Iowa at Penn State is at 7pm on CBS.  Wisconsin and Purdue play Friday night.   Nebraska, Illinois, and Indiana play lower level teams so 2 of those will likely be BTN games at 2:30 and 6 so pretty good chance they get one of those slots.

    Thanks!

Obviously I wanted CT to come back but I think Nebraska is better with a true mobile QB going forward. Always felt like this was our bread & butter.

I agree that having a mobile QB is better long term. I trust that Rhule will get his system implemented fully within a couple years.
