  1. Thanks for the story Eric. Hey guys, if you want to discuss this topic, please do so in this other forum: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.ph...owtopic=202&hl= piece-
  2. Hell jah, that was great to see!! I was shocked when I saw that highlight and the score flash over. NU B-ball is definitely on the up&up. Good for them. Our program needs some good pub about now.
  3. I still dont see it. This is a lateral if not a de-motion. Pelini will never be HC at OU, and will be HC at a D1 program in 2-3 yrs if he plays his cards right. This move would make 0 logical sense. Unless Pederson runs him out of town too that is....
  4. What a flipping mess. Man, Byrne looks like a deity compared to this guy. Clean it up Steve-o!!!!
  5. The voice behind the curtain is powerful!!
  6. BTW, yes most have materialized into nothing tangible. Very few of the "candidates" have even verified being contacted by NU. However there has been confirmation that SP has contacted 4 current NFL coaches. I believe Cowher was one of them. I think they are ironing out the details right now. Last rumor was that SP wants Cotton gone but Bo wants to keep him. I would think that if it was all but official about Pelini, they would have announced it by now to stabilize recruiting.
  7. Personally I would rather we land a bigger name, ala Cowher or someone w/strong NFL ties. I realize Pelini has this, but I dont know that he is ready to run the show. If we could keep Pelini AND bring in another big name, let's do it. Kids are drawn to NFL connections b/c that is obviously their ultimate goal, and someone with the blueprints to their dream can be enticing.
  8. Interesting discussion material, but I cant say I buy any of it. Remember that Bo has Head Coaching aspirations. Why would he take a lateral, even if it is OU? In a normal year, OU and NU are pretty parallel. I would think this would make Bo look pretty flaky in the head coaching brotherhood if he were to leave a job less than 1 yr after he took it, just for a lateral. It would appear that he is unloyal, and I would think this would only stunt his head coach goal. Plus why would Bob want Bo if he knows he has goals of being a head coach in less than 5 yrs, and most likely a lot less even if he didnt get the NU job. And I agree with Big red machine, I wouldnt think Carl would have any reason to leave Bo's side, since the Pelini namesake is a pretty popular one around Lincoln these days, he should have no problem moving up swiftly. 9. I know reading into things isnt the most effective form of speculation, but I dont have any better ideas. Would be very surprised if Cowher left the NFL, but he hasnt been on the best of terms with Pitt lately - and remember when Trev said we will probably be shocked at who he nabs. Wouldnt put it past him. The one thing that stood out about his interview was the fact that he said the "rumors have no substance". Thats not saying "they arent true" which would have completely diffused the rumor. No substance means they shouldnt have anything "official" to base that on, not that it isnt a possibility. I imagine Steve may have contacted or had his people put out "feelers" for several big name NFL coaches. Remember, he really wants to redeem himself in our eyes, and seemed to be pretty confident that he could. We will see.......
  10. Osborne says Pederson has good intentions BY ELIZABETH MERRILL WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER W-H Online Edition: NU in Transition Rep. Tom Osborne isn't taking his name off Nebraska's expansion project out of protest, and the legendary Husker coach isn't voicing any ill will over NU Athletic Director Steve Pederson, either. One week after Pederson fired Frank Solich, Osborne's hand-picked successor, Osborne and the A.D. had a telephone chat Sunday. "We had a good conversation," Osborne said, "and I'm absolutely convinced that whatever Steve does, he does it with the best possible intentions in mind. I think he does care about the program and it is his responsibility. "I understand that, yet at the same time, of course, I look at it from a coach's perspective because I was one for so long and Frank was very important to me." Osborne was overseas on Nov. 29 when Pederson fired Solich one day after the Huskers wrapped up a 9-3 regular season. Osborne said Pederson didn't consult him on the decision, but conceded that he's been at "arm's length" on the issue. When Osborne found out Solich was fired, he made a late-night call to the coach. A month ago, Pederson unveiled plans for a $40 million practice facility, which was named after Osborne and his wife, Nancy. When Solich was fired, there was speculation that Osborne might take his name off the project. Osborne said he wouldn't want to do anything to hurt the program.

  14. This is pretty interesting too.. Discusses the tough task we have ahead of us: Article Published: Sunday, December 07, 2003 big 12 football Bouncing back Cornhuskers' storied past reflects greatness, resiliency By Bill Briggs Denver Post Sports Writer http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,3...1814542,00.html
  15. Pretty amazing. Good work Kstate, enjoy it, you just absolutely ruined one of the best teams ever. But please remember that there is no transitive property - so this does NOT automatically mean you are now the best team ever. Just want to make that clear right now before people start to lose their minds. But congrats nonetheless, hopefully we can rebuild and start to give you a better run for the north title next year.
  16. Yes I believe Marvin Sanders is the front-runner for the DC spot if Pelini becomes HC. Trev isn't a coach. He may be intelligent, but not ready to be a coach at D-1 program like NU, even if he does know his stuff. A name will only take you so far. I like the Tom Rathman idea, and actually Bill Cowher would sound damn good too! Plus both of those guys have strong coaching merit as well as a strong name. If only we can be sure we dont lose Pelini if he doesnt get the gig. That has to be Steve's biggest deliberation..
  17. The reason they haven't been getting any pressure on the QB, is because Jamrog stinks.....he needs to go next. I'm sure he is on Big Steve's short list.
  18. Good for Frank. and Army! Big score for Army Source: Ex-Huskers coach Solich coming to Point By Justin Rodriguez Times Herald-Record jrodriguez@th-record.com West Point – Former Nebraska coach Frank Solich could be named Army's next football coach as early as today, the Times Herald-Record has learned. According to a source close to the team, preparations have been made at West Point to announce one of the most successful incoming coaches in Academy history. Solich, 59, was fired by Nebraska last week, but not until he led the Cornhuskers to a 58-19 record across six seasons. Superintendent Lt. Gen. William Lennox has craved a Division I-A coach with name recognition. Solich certainly fits that bill. He led Nebraska to the national title game in 2001, losing to Miami 37-14 in the Rose Bowl. Solich took over for coaching legend Tom Osborne at Nebraska on Dec. 10, 1997. Osborne is on the advisory panel that Lennox put together last year to evaluate the struggling program. It's unclear when Solich was interviewed, but two other leading candidates – Division I-AA Western Illinois coach Don Patterson, a 1973 West Point graduate, and Maryland offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe – have yet to be contacted. Nebraska was 9-3 when athletic director Steve Pederson fired Solich. The Black Knights, 0-12 this season, have won just eight games since the start of the 1999 season. Solich has said he wanted to return to coaching quickly. His name has been mentioned to fill the vacancy at Cincinnati. Army probably had to throw extra money at Solich, but keep in mind that Nebraska bought out his contract, which runs through 2006, for $786, 693. The terms of Solich's deal with Army are unknown. Solich gives Army instant credibility with recruits, fans and alumni. Interim coach John Mumford and most, if not all of his staff, are expected to be relieved of their duties upon Solich's signing. Planning such a move so close to tomorrow's Army-Navy game is unique. But Army-Navy is a nationally televised game with media attending from all over the country. Army could use the positive press. There hasn't been a lot of that going around West Point this fall. Lennox canned Todd Berry on Oct. 13 after he went 5-35 in three-plus seasons. Army is one loss from becoming the first team in NCAA history to go 0-13. The Black Knights have lost a school-record 14 in a row, the longest streak in the nation. Solich took over a stacked program at Nebraska. Now, he has the challenge of rebuilding one. Nebraska runs the option, something Berry scrapped for a spread offense when he took over for Bob Sutton in December of 1999. Many fans and former players want to see the option return. The buzz around West Point yesterday was that an announcement could be made late in the afternoon. It never happened. But sources close to the team said it was a weird day at West Point. "A lot of closed-door stuff," said one source. "People who usually are around weren't. Something's up."
  19. To follow up on Big Red Machine's post in another forum: Actually Snyder was confirmed (2nd hand so I cant say for sure) as being in Lincoln this week, BUT here's the interesting part. Allegedly he WAS there for an interview, but he wasn't the one being interviewed. That's right, he was interviewing Husker coaches for HIS staff at KSU!! Can you believe this? He isnt wasting any time, and might as well take advantage of a great opp. One man's trash is another man's treasure... This would definitely hurt our program, and still kinda find it hard to believe that they would accept these interviews when no official announcements have been made, so take it for what it's worth! Exactly, entertainment!
  20. Sweet, that guy was great in Good morning Vietnam. That's just the type of energy we need to motivate the troops!!
  21. A post from TX Husker in another forum that I thought would be good to post here too: This "fab four" TX speaks of are fromTallahasee and all attend the same school I believe. Apparently they werent very interested until they heard that Pelini may be the new coach. The Bros Pelini are a huge draw for young kids with their NFL hook, and if we land Rathman, this will also help. I think that has been one of our biggest deficiencies lately - not attracting the marquee I Backs - Rathman will improve this drastically. This is gettin good...
  22. Rumor is that Solich Gill and Ron Brown are all on their way to coach at Illinois. Cincinnati was also out there, but ILL is more likely. That would be interesting, too bad for us - especially if Ron Brown leaves, but good to see if they can land on their feet that quickly, and stay together. That will be a huge gain for whoever is lucky enough to get any of these guys. Good luck Coaches!!
  23. There is a lot of conversation around when the announcement will take place. Last I heard was that there will be a press conference tomorrow/Fri., but I also heard Tuesday - which I think is more realistic. I imagine they will socialize the PC date on Monday, to give it time to circulate so everyone can be on the edge of their seats. Im starting to feel like a little kid again the night before Christmas. This is pretty exciting. Stay tuned..
  24. Some interesting info posted by TX Husker in another forum. Pelini is the current favorite for HC, and Rathman was in Lincoln today apparently to interview for the OC position. Might be buh-bye Barney. Read the full article and post a response here: http://www.huskerboard.com/forums/index.ph...p?showtopic=142 (scroll to the bottom of this link) Thanks TX Husker. Blackshirt
  25. Right on. You guys are all bringing up good points. I like it. Not trying to bang on you Dave, but I tend to agree with the others. I see why you tend to favor the other side, b/c they are founded on hearsay that isnt tangilble, so I appreciate that. But, putting the rumors aside since we will never know the legitimacy of them, the point that pushed me over the edge into the anti-Pederson camp was when he said he was thinking about firing Solich long before he even got the job as AD. This tells me he had a personal agenda, and that his motivations were predicated by superficial pretenses. Not the right way to go about leading a program, not to mention gaining credibility and friends, which he has very little of b/c we didnt know him. This will now define him to us, until he can prove otherwise. Deep hole there. In my opinion an AD needs to detach themself from personal emotions, and use logic instead of personal feelings. Okay there, I said my peace and now Im with you, ready to put this to bed for now, and get ready to go bowling!! After all, this was a pretty remarkable season considering last year - but apparently not good enough... dammit there I go again!! GBR!
