  1. Right. A game where he turned it over one time. Got it.

I'll definitely be curious to see who the universal scapegoat is next year. You know, other than the media.

Do you honestly believe that the media hasn't just been pouring gasoline on this whole dumpster fire? I mean since you obviously think all they are is a scapegoat. They didn't necessarily start the fire but they've certainly been fueling it (insert Billy Joel reference here).

I think in this country, we've created a boogeyman out of "the media", not just at the local level. As it related to Nebraska football, we've decided that all of our problems pertain to how "the media" handles and covers the program. Some folks think they are supposed to lob softball questions at Pelini and only write fluff pieces. If you want that, read the Nside blog or listen to Sports Nightly. If you can point out something that "the media" reported that is factually inaccurate, then maybe you have a point. But when "the media" writes an article that compiles or cites unfavorable (but true) statistics about the program, that isn't being unfair. That's called reporting. Do I always agree with the take home point of the articles? No, but that doesn't necessarily make the content inaccurate. I agree that Pelini doesn't have a good relationship with most of the local media, though the blame for that is at least 50% his own.

If "the media" poured the gasoline, Bo lit the match.

I get what you're saying and I don't think "the media" is reporting false information. The problem is they aren't reporting entirely factual information either. How many countless articles were written out of pure speculation on Bo's job status before and after the Iowa game? Did any of them think Bo had any chance at keeping his job? How many positive articles are written about Bo and the team? I'm struggling to really think of any since pre-season. I know it's more of difficult topic to write on when there's so many more negative things to write about than positive and negativity is what sells, but when all the media talks about is the negatives and never the positives, that's the only perception some people have. That's what I mean by they are only fueling the fire, but yes, I do agree, Bo did light the match.

  2. They're tapping out because we have depth and they're encouraged to do it. Fresh legs are what allowed us to come from behind in those games.

I would buy this if the coaches were pulling him out. I won't buy this because he is pulling himself out big difference. I do agree if we have the depth we need to use it for the long haul. They still shouldn't have to tap out as much as they do, and yes it could be as much mental as Physical (S&C) but one has a lot to do with the other also.

Watch basically any football game - college or pro. Players take themselves out all the time. Especially RBs if they've had a big run or a couple carries in a row. They know the team is better off and they'll be better off in the long run if they come out for a couple plays then go back in.

What bothers me most is it seems like certain players will just be starting to get into a rhythm and then they'll come out of the game (seems like this happens a lot with Ameer). To me it looks like it happens after a player on offense makes a big play and "sparks" the team, they immediately are on the sidelines after that majority of the time. Then, when they come back in, it's like the whole process starts over again. I'm fine with rotating players, I just think that we might see more continuity from series to series if they weren't coming in and out so much.

  4. My question with this Bo vs Fans ordeal is this...Which came first? Bo being short with fans on his own or him becoming short with fans because they deserve it for the way they lash out at players and coaches?

Kind of seems like it was with the media first, which in turn made the fans lash out towards Bo for not handling things more "appropriately" or doing a better job of representing the university. Don't get me wrong, Bo has dug his own grave with the fans with audiogate and some of the other things he's said, but this whole "Bo Pelini is a big angry meanie" mentality has been perpetuated by the media.

That's just it. "The fans" aren't lashing out at Bo. The vast, vast majority of us are behind him. He's our coach, our guy, and while he's here he gets our support. Those fans are with him today, through the A&M fiasco in 2009, the various incidents making local and national news throughout his career, even through the tape release earlier this year and the really bad day he had last Friday. The vocal fans who are truly against Bo are the minority, and lash out on social media. There are no boos in the stadium, no scorn heaped on him as he walks around town.

I agree and I think this whole thing comes back to what Q was saying above, that the whole thing really is overblown. Just seems like the media is one of, if not, the biggest reason for that.

  6. So with Bo sticking around in 2014, do we actually expect significant improvement? The subjects listed in the poll are issues that have been apparent not just this year, but topics of discussion since Bo arrived (just off the top of my head).

It seems to me that penalties actually improved this season, and recruiting is not going too badly all things considered, but how much improvement can we expect moving forward?

    Why do you think so?

My pessimistic opinion is that not much is going to change, and we'll be stuck in this exact same place next year. But I didn't want to start another useless thread giving my opinion of Bo staying or leaving. So I started this useless thread instead. I'm interested to see what everyone's expectations are for next year.

One of the biggest things I want to see change, that you left out, is Special Teams. We have to have some of thee worst ST in the country and I just don't understand how you can be so bad at it. We struggle to succeed with even the most basic aspects of Special Teams. I'd list all the things we do terribly on ST but it would probably be easier to list the things we do well (which is next to none).

  7. I say everyone needs to go all-in on next season with Bo Pelini and the team.

Because he is going to be the coach - whether you like it or not - and we have good athletes on the way up.

The pressure will be high, but that's how it should be.

Bo will be on a short leash, but he's earned it.

Fans are hungry. They want to cheer.

Haters B hating. Might B fun to shut them up.

Backs to the wall. Forget the past six years. 2014 is show time.

Show us what you've got. If this team is willing to fight demons at the gates of hell for Bo Pelini, they can start by playing four quarters of balls-out football. Preferrably consecutive quarters.

I honestly don't think there's a magic number of wins, just a quality of play.

+1. My feelings exactly. He's more than likely here to stay for one more year whether people like it or not. Might as well show some support for him and the team. It certainly doesn't do the program any favors to continue to talk about how much better we could do, how bad Bo's antics are, yada yada yada. If he doesn't get it done next year, he will be out the door. As long as the players continue to support him, I will too. If they ever stop supporting him, well, then we really are in trouble.

  8. http://www.knowitall...re-jim-tressel/

Tressel is in the middle of serving a five year “show-cause” penalty/sentence levied by the NCAA in connection with lying about known violations during an investigation while he was the head coach at Ohio State.

What this means is that any school wanting to hire Tressel would need to “show cause” to the NCAA as to why the school itself should not be sanctioned for hiring him. That alone would likely be an easy case for Nebraska, as they haven’t had any major violations during the Pelini-era and have been a relatively clean program historically. In addition, Tressel would be ineligible to coach the team during the first five games of the season as well as any conference championship or bowl games during his first year.

Read the article for even more reasons why he won't be here....

I agree we don't need Tressel here but why are you reading some hack writer from Bleacher Report?

Well even people you consider hacks can post actual facts in their articles. In this case, he presented facts and a couple opinions that people can agree or disagree with.

So why are you questioning why I'm reading Bleacher Report when the facts presented in the article cannot be refuted? No one would want him as a coach here if he can't take us to the post season. No one would want him as a coach here if he can't coach for half the games in a season. No one wants a magnifying glass hanging over our program (up for debate on whether that would happen or not). Fans and mainly boosters wouldn't stand for it.

I don't want Bo gone at this point but if he were to get the boot, Tressel is numero uno on my want list. Maybe it's just the people I have talked to but it seems to me there are more in the hire Tressel boat than the stay away from him boat. I know plenty of people, myself included, who would still take Tressel regardless of the two reasons you listed. I have confidence that Tressel would bring competent enough assistants with him to run the show in his abscence. Look at all the assistants that are running the show in the abscence of Head coaches this year and doing a damn good job of it (i.e. Jerry Kill, Ed Orgeron). It may not be the best season but I think most people would be willing to give up one season to return to being a great football team again. Granted there are no guarantees that Tressel is the answer but he sure has the resume to back it up and that's a chance I'd be willing to take.

I agree that no one wants a magnifying glass hanging over the program but in a way it could be a good thing. If we are concerned with Tressel committing violations once he's here, what better way to deter that than to have the program under a microscope?

  9. I'm skeptical of JMitch as well. The word out of fall camp was that JRose is a monster but plays too risky for Coach Joseph's liking.
Maybe with the rest of the D improving, JRose playing risky won't be as disastrous.
I hope so, Mitchell just isn't on par with the rest of our CB at this point. Somehow the guy who was called the "best cover guy we have" at the beginning of the year by the coaches is the biggest liability in the secondary. A secondary that includes a converted WR and a Freshman Safety.
I think Mitchell has played fine - good but not great. He's no lockdown corner but neither is SJB.

I agree that Mitchell has been good but not great. I think he could be great if he wasn't so undersized, that seems to really be his biggest SHORTcoming (sorry couldn't help myself).

  10. Does Johnny have more speed then TA? I am sure we have been spoiled the last 3.5 years by TMart's elite speed at the position, but TA seems so slow when he keeps on the read option, and other designed runs.

I thought TA has been playing with a bad knee, and is expected to have surgery in the off season?

He had that surgery last year but rumor/speculation is that he's still not back to 100% from it.

  11. I watch a decent amount of MMA fights and am pretty familiar with it all, however I don't know exactly how the scoring works. I watched this entire fight and by watching (not fully knowing the scoring) I would have to say Hendricks won. Did you see GSP's face compared to Hendricks at the end of the fight? That's usually a pretty good indication of who won in a fight.

I was pretty wasted so I can't remember what his exact words were, but the first thing Joe Rogan said to Hendricks after the fight, was something along the lines of how he should have been the one who won that fight and asked him how he felt not being declared the winner. When Joe Rogan says you won, chances are you won, whether you were declared the winner or not.

Do I think Hendricks won? Sure do. Do I think it was the worst decision ever? No, not even close. It was a really good fight and pretty even for the majority of it.

  12. Kiper said (As per Sam's article) that RG44 should return for another year. I agree with him.

He will. His draft stock will vastly improve if he plays another year (barring injury obviously). He even said about a week ago, that he doesn't think he's playing to his full potential yet. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea for very many players to enter the draft before their Junior year. Most Sophmores are still pretty raw and that extra year does wonders for them.

  13. 1) Michigan State's a good team. Sure, we made them look better by handing them 5 turnovers on OUR side of the field. I hate to think what the score might've been had we turned the ball over on THEIR side of the field instead of our side of the field. But, good teams take advantage of turnovers, and Michigan State did that. Defensively, I'm willing to bet Ohio State hammers Michigan State in the conference championship game.

    2) We do have depth on the offensive line. Seriously, that was a ferocious defensive line, damn good linebackers, and a defensive mind in Narduzzi that we were going up against. We had nearly 200 rushing yards and Armstrong was not sacked once.

    3) Armstrong has some learning to do. We see flashes of brilliance and we see flashes of just pure badness. He'll be in a fight with Stanton going into next year, but he can be a great quarterback for us. If we were willing to give TM the leeway as a freshman, we have to give TA that same room, as frustrating as it is.

    4) I'm glad Abdullah will be here next year. I can't wait.

    5) I'm excited for our defense. It's going to be a good time to be a Blackshirt the next few seasons.

    6) It won't feel like it now, but our future is bright. We have the chance to be really good in the coming years.

+1. Very much agree with this post, especially the bolded. Can't believe how well they played.

  14. For students arriving early, the first 1,000 in the South student section will receive a black towel, courtesy of the Nebraska Athletic Department.

I don't know for sure, but I think that's an error on the article's end. My educated guess is that this is funded by the Iron N, which is a student group, and uses student allocation money.

I'm pretty sure the towels that were handed out at last years Michigan game were provided by the University. Here's a picture of the towels from last year. I could be wrong but I'm not sure the students would put the Highway Safety stuff at the bottom unless they were somehow able to help pay for the towels by advertising that.

Yes, but the towels handed out before that, to only the students during the Wisconsin game, said 'Iron N' on them with nothing else. They went over really well so the athletic department decided to try it again throughout the entire stadium.

Ah, I gotcha. I remember them handing out the towels for the Wisconsin game but I never actually saw one.

  16. Play VV and we get better. That way the whole DL doesn't need to worry about stuffing the middle. He is the most important player on our defense.

We have 6ft3 330lbs of run-stuffing awesomeness that we didn't utilize against Minnesota.

Actually if you chart out the season we play better when Curry is in there.

    FIFY

Actually if you chart out the season we play better when Curry is in there when Randle isn't in there.

  17. I've heard this asked by radio sports guys a few times ...kind of like a rhetorical question where they're scrunching up their face and assuming we'd get destroyed if we made it there.....like maybe it's better if we just stay away.

I say OF COURSE we want to play in the championship game. If we make it there I'm assuming we've already beaten Michigan, Iowa State, and Michigan State.......if we can do that then we can certainly give Ohio State a run for their money and possibly upset them.

I hear a bunch of fans talking like they're ready to throw in the towel. We've seen some pretty good flashes from our guys and I feel like we should either get behind them 100% or go mow the yard;...we don't need the negativity hanging around and festering.

Didn't realize we played ISU this year

We don't. It's Michigan, Michigan St, Penn St, and Iowa. Everyone wants Bo to win a conference title and a bowl (including me). The only way that happens is if they get to the CCG (simple logic, but true).

I know. It was meant to be sarasm, sorry shoulda used this instead :sarcasm

  19. The Big House is a whole different kind of monster when its amped up and the teams prepared. Really hoping for a Sparty hangover.

I am not sure how crazy it will be at the big house, those fans are very much sick and tired of hoke right now and if they don't start out hot, it could be pretty quiet.

They may be sick of Hoke (kind of like how some are sick of Bo) but they are still playing Nebraska and they probably want to beat us just as bad as we want to beat them. I hate to compare Michigan fans to Nebraska fans but just for fun, if this game was at home and we had just lost to Northwestern last week, don't you think Memorial would still be rockin' this week? People would be calling for Bo's head left and right and be saying the season is shot. Even then, I still think the place would be going wild because of who we were playing, not so much the implications of the game. Michigan and Nebraska seem to be in a very similar place football wise right now. Both are questioning their coaches and I think match up fairly well on both sides of the ball. It's been talked about other places on here but opposing teams and fans definitely get up to play us and most of all, beat us. Especially when this game will really be the defining game for both team's seasons going forward. I still think The Big House is gonna be crazy.
