We are vulnerable to any team with a competent passing game. I do not like our changes against Maryland, in fact I have a suspicion it will be ugly. Not sure what to think about Wisconsin overall, but the Iowa game may be our best/only chance to become bowl eligible.

We only have 1 game left where we can use Sims. Look for him in that Iowa game. No doubt in my mind Rhule and him have an eligiblity saving agreement in the works now. Which is cute because it allows Sims to make his 1.5 amigos bucks without ever having to sacrifice anything!

We are still a challenged team on both sides of the ball.  I think our defense has been exploited some now.  I am interested to see how this staff and team respond going forward.  Has this staff got the mentality of this team changed?

I think we have found out for sure that we have got to get a better QB and more weapons.  But with saying that, if we don't have a better Line, those things won't matter either.

Our defense is what it is. Good scheme, well coached, but still subpar athleticism across the board. Works great when opposing quarterbacks aren’t good enough to stress it , but looks pedestrian with competence back there. Line not talented enough to create pressure straight up consistently and secondary not talented enough to match up straight up. Execute an average offense against us and the cracks peak out.

I just have a feeling this could be a bad match up and I think a lot of people think that too.

Fair enough, although. Without any semblance of offensive starters, I have a feeling we don't match up well with any team who puts a defense on the field.

This team is so screwed up it is time to just say F it all, get dirty, have fun and laugh at the ride.

If Rhule and Co find a way to etch out any more wins this season, I feel real good about our chances of competing for titles w/i the next 5 because that is some miracle worker level coaching.

    And...who would that be?

    Bill Callahan for starters.

But seriously, I mean, what kind of question is this? I'm not even paid 100$ a year to know the ins and outs of O-Line coaches, but there are guys that are paid, say, 5 million dollars a year to be up to speed on these things. They should understand when trying to sell a vision of a great development on an otherwise horrible line, you have to bring your A game.

While I am aware..I’m not sure what the “vision” of this offense is. God you would hope he can make an early impact here.

There is no "vision" involving Raiola. He's completely unproven and he's doing horribly so far in his 2 year trial. He may be the best O-Line coach in the country but he doesn't fit what NU needs for an O-Line coach right now. We need a proven name to convince good O-Line man to take that HUGE chance. Can't even believe we are trying to make a go of it with Raiola.

I stand corrected. I listened to Adam Carriker’s reaction to the game against Illinois and he said he had watched HH as a freshman and that HH did not always throw that sidearm way so I agree with you that he can be corrected. Do we have a quarterback coach? If a really good quarterback coach could take HH under his wing and teach him not only correct form but also how to increase his accuracy.

But why? Like, not to be a punk but he is currently an NCAA Div 1 quarterback. To say, “Let’s get him a quarterback coach to help teach him how to throw correctly and with any degree of accuracy,” is hilarious to me. That’s basic QB skills. Should have them by now. That’s not a thing we “start developing as a Jr in college,” thing. There are thousands of high school quarterbacks that need less than that and will never get a sniff at this level. He’s literally a ground up build at this point and I have NO idea why he’s on a scholly here. He could spend 2 full years just developing reads and field vision and still be lacking. That doesn’t even start to address his innate flawed mechanics which also would take multiple years to correct.

He’s out of time for NU to save him as a QB. He’s a guy we use only because there is nobody else and cutting him in the off-season was not the way Rhule was gonna win the state. He can transfer down a few levels and have loads of fun running around and slinging yard ball for Wayne.

From NU’s perspective, he’s an easy guy to recruit over this off-season and that is the path you take because such fewer resources needed to put into the next guy who already knows how to not throw sidearm and get the ball within 4 yards of his receiver. It’s business and Haarberg leaves you little upside return on investment at this time.

I'm with you on this. The PTSD in this fan base had people in the game thread going CRAAAZZZYYY right before half time. Torches and pitchforks and nonsense.

Scoring to close out a half, and then getting the ball back after half to score again is winning football. It's not his fault HH went colorblind and started slinging the ball like Uncle Rico by his van. I LOVED Rhule coming out and getting on HH after one of those throws.

I'm not blown away by Satt but people calling for his head, what exactly would you call? He's trying to run an offense w a high school QB and an Oline that sometimes looks like the keystone cops. His WR's are hurt. His RB's are hurt and fumble. He's probably got 25 plays he can call and 3 of them are false starts and 2 are interceptions.

    Post of the year!

No way is Haarberg the worst ever. He can run, that has to be worth something!

I’d argue he is. We’ve had QB’s that are pure runners.  We’ve had QB’s that are pure passers. As a pure runner he’s far down the list of pure runners. As a pure passer he’s bottom. As a guy who reads a defense deciding to pitch or keep or which route is open and best to throw to, he’s near the bottom of all time as well. I literally CAN NOT think of a QB in the past 35 years of following Husker football I think is legit worse.

Really do like the kid. Needs to be a taysom hill type guy.  Not THE guy.

Yeah, we know much of his passing sucks, so why are we doing it three plays in a row? Whose fault is that? Are there higher % passes that could've been called instead of flinging a dying duck into the secondary? Did anyone say Haarberg was Rattler? There are plenty of headscratcher calls by Satterfield.

Satt has done an incredible job working an offense with a lame duck EVERTHING.  Haarberg is the worst QB in NU history. Not sure how you can say “just call better passing plays,” for a QB that can’t literally not pass.

Satt may prove to be wretched, but it’s not fair to blame him for not having magic to overcome ineptitude at the QB position.

Sounds like there is still discussion about where he'll play for Nebraska.  He's never played Tight End.  Likely will be more of a big WR at first then work in to being an attached TE.

Probably doesn't really matter much which one is chosen, it's not like we use either position anyway. :P

You said in another post that he's "not a Division I QB;" I'd say he's a completely serviceable backup as a sophomore and has the potential to be a good starter by the start of next year or in 2025. Guy's a sophomore.

His completion percentage against LA Tech suffered from a throwaway or two and Washington's drop where the ball hits him right in the numbers on a critical 3rd down that would have been converted if he catches it. Yeah, he had the other one that went into traffic and probably should have been picked off, but tons of great QB's have that happen almost every game, also.

The TD pass to Fidone was off the mark but that's why it's nice to have guys with that kind of athleticism; Thomas comes back for it and does the rest himself.

But just one more zoomed-out take: When your recruiting requirements of a QB is that he has to run and your program is a perennial dumpster fire, you're not pulling in Tua Tagovailoa's. If you want somebody that throws really, really well, then you have to change your requirements. This staff and the last one required that the QB be a runner.

Just coming back to this because I don't  want to appear like I'm just throwing out drive by pot shots and not interested in actual discourse because I am. It is also a tough place for me to be in to argue against Haarberg because he is everything we Nebraskan's love in a QB. I want him to beat the world, truly I do.

He's a long way from being able to do that, though.  All I said is that he is not a Div 1 QB, which I maintain, he is not. How that compares to Sims, or where Haarberg will be in a few years, or how he would be in a different offense with a different team,  matters not to me. The fact is. the kid we've seen head the team for the past few games can not throw an accurate ball, can not quickly read defenses, can not scan the  field well, can not hit a deep route. He can  not be a difference maker at the position, in fact, he is a liability currently that we have to scheme the hell around his multitude of weakness'/ Surely he can improve with time and hopefully become a Div 1 QB, that I don't know, but as it stands now, he is not.

Its a glaring issue with the team, currently, along with many other glaring issues, so I don't hate the guy nor am I upset  about how great he is handling himself having been thrown into this position, but if he is the best we have at QB, we will be hurting all season. And he could be....

Can’t target receivers downfield if the o-line can’t protect that long.  The first play from scrimmage for NU against La Tech could have been a called deep shot, but Haarberg was sacked.

Not like he would have seen the receiver anyway nor would he have been able to put the ball in the  right zip code.
