Not having a top notch QB may have been his biggest problem in the NFL.

Describe the ‘identity’ of Pelini’s teams.

    What was Frost’s team identity?

What do you think Rhule wants his team identity to be?  I’d say, he wants his team to play harder than everybody else.  He wants his team to very athletic.   Speed is the first and foremost physical requirement.  Aggressive.  I think Rhule will be a risk taker at times - a bit of a riverboat gambler in all three phases.  He will have a few surprises up his sleeve.

Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn’t.   He will certainly demand full devotion and 110% effort. No slackers allowed.

The biggest difference already between what Frost and Rhule both say they demand with regards to work ethic, maturity, responsibility, etc, is that, while they both say very similar things, Rhule is the only one that actually sent Allen and Farmer packing and told Fleeks to stay home until he was able to hold his head up and say he is doing his part to be on the team.  s#!t carries 10000 times more weight when you hold your key diva's accountable like you say you will.

So the Pac12 is assumed to be done,  but are they?

There is no way they can raid the Mountain West with the MWC having a 32M per team buyout.  What I wonder is will the MWC "dissolve" and join the four remaining Pac12 schools and become the Pac16 in hopes of staying/becoming a power 5 conference?

There are not enough teams anybody cares about there to remain competitive long term. They can exist as a G5-esque level conference but any remaining team either needs to be ok with that or be begging for a lifeboat in the Big12

Nebraska brings in something like 6-7 mil a home game and adds about that much to the local economy per home game. Those aren't exact figures, but it's in that ballpark.

That's very substantial. Football is 4-5 times more profitable than men's basketball in part because of those large stadiums. 8 of the 11 stadiums in the world that are 100k capacity or larger are college football stadiums.

TV right now is very risky because no one knows what the future holds. Cable numbers continue to plummet and even ESPN isn't immune to that. They had a massive on air talent purge just a few weeks ago in an effort to cut expenses. Rumors have been swirling for some time that Disney may be looking to sell.

Nearly every streaming platform is losing money at the moment in a rampant surge to create/acquire as much content as possible in hopes that it allows them to break away from the pack. Peacock, who has been as aggressive as anyone in growing live sports via a streaming platform, is expected to lose 3 billion this year. There's a good reason Apple's offer was not only fairly low, but incentive based.....no one really knows yet if any streaming partner is strong enough at the moment to carry live sports in the way we're accustomed to with cable. The BIG was smart, imo, not only in diversifying their media portfolio, but in continuing to partner with broadcast television. It's the safest avenue right now and the BIG are as strong as they are in this current round because they prioritized those broadcast time slots.

Even if we assume 4 million a game net, that’s only 32 million/year. That’s not enough to sustain and athletic department. The reason the money is rolling in is because schools understand you don’t trip over those nickels, you aim for those broadcast hundies.

With all these new teams joining the conference I wonder if Nebraska fans will still travel to watch them play?  I know we got a great fan base but buying tickets every time Nebraska has to go out west will get expensive.

I'm not sure it matters. These deals are done BECAUSE they know that the butts are moving out of the stands and into the couch more and more each year. Trying to keep teams in "region" based conferences is exactly what would have sunk any conference that tried to do it. There isn't enough money to focus on trying to get 50-80k people to a location 3 hours 8 times a year. The money is trying to get a large percentage of 350 million to focus on the box in the living room for 8-12 hours 14 times/year.

I don't want to be petty, but Nebraska needs to worry more about getting the 80k willing to travel to Memorial again as they are having plenty of issues moving those tickets. I think how many red hoodies show up in Phil Knight land in 2028 is a blip on the "things we should worry about" radar.

Side note.  Stivrins step in it.  It’s like listening to my 18 year old daughter and her friends.  Everything is offensive or directed at them.  One of her former teammates no doubt sent the picture and the story behind it.

    ”OMG, football waffles only Lauren.”

She took and alleged miscommunication and turned it into a civil rights issue.  It’s as if because they didn’t receive their catered breakfast they’d have to walk to Matt Talbot kitchen.

    First world problems.

    Ya, horrible look for  Stivrins.

His commitment is the biggest one in this class. He’s been as big of a get then anybody I can remember in last 7 classes. He has helped bring so many guys to this class.

And, as a Nebraska boy, has a chance to become a legend here.

His 10.15 100m speed literally would've qualified him in the semi-finals of the Olympics, where runners from the Ivory Coast (10.15) and Brazil (10.17) qualified with similar times.

His size and speed are simply not really matched. Even if he just a track guy, running Go routes with his ability is enough to make defenses adjust.

Let’s go get the Ivory Coast guys then. At least they are immediately available.

God, I know we Husker fans can be dense, but I think everyone recognizes now that firing Frank period, minimum and Pelini when we did were both mistakes. Assuming Rhule doesn't have Pelini's anger management skills or other controversy, I think most would be content with seasons that range from 8-11 wins annually.

I don't recognize that. Was absolutely the right decision. Ya, we got way worse than we were when they were here, but look no further than the heights of their coaching careers after leaving here to see that they did not have the chops to get us where we want to be. Need to be competing for titles. If not, move on. Sure, may be in vain but the culture of the state is to strive for excellence. We don't tend to be a "settling" type in anything we do.

  9. This makes me sad, but, if being honest. We don't need QB like him to get us to our goals. For sure he'd have made it easier, but its not like we are trying to get over the hump in the upper echelons of the sport.  We can get to where we need to get for now, IE, beating Iowa and Purdue, with a Tanner Morgan.  As others have said, need to fix soooo many thing before getting a guy like Dylan can have the kind of impact getting a guy like him should have.

  10. I haven't heard him announce yet, and until I do, I truly think NU is in it. We were told he was going to announce by the people that know everything 2 weeks ago, and, yet here we are.

The reason, in my opinion, he is not announcing is because he wants to choose NU but he doesn't want to be stupid. So, he's waiting for NU to not look like a stupid option. Now, time could certainly be running out, but there is a reason he hasn't give his commitment yet.

The ONLY reason NU is even in the conversation is that it offers things the other places do not. The chance to be a state and college football legend. I think he loves that idea, but he obviously knows it is not a guarantee. Needs to be convinced Rhule is getting things in place to increase the odds that is going to happen and is using the biggest inside asset he has, his uncle, to monitor it all.

In the end, after the spring game, I think what is really happening is he is coming to terms with the long shot hero-dom is at the current level of the program. His smart move is to go to Georgia, and, worst case scenario, it doesn't end up being what he hoped there and he transfers her in 2 years where he can still do all of what he wants to do but behind a line that is two years further into functional. Best case scenario, he nails it at Georgia and is in the pro's in 2-3 years.

Im not going to say I was shocked by any means but more so extremely disappointed bc I felt it was his job to lose.  Just from watching the spring game I just don't feel like he is tailored for the offense.  My only question in all of this is why now??  Would it have been more beneficial for him to be on a new team to gel regardless if he couldn't throw.  Nebraska needs continuity.

Because we were on the hook to pay for his surgery and rehab. You don't bolt before those boxes are checked.
