Here is a little more on our Universities name sake...
John McNeese (July 4, 1843 - June 5, 1914) was an educator in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and the first superintendent of schools of Imperial Calcasieu Parish. McNeese University in Lake Charles is named in his honor.
Was actually a soldier in the Union Army but we forgive him for that.
McNeese was born on July 4, 1843, McNeese was a businessman and rancher. In 1873, McNeese began a cattle drive from Central Texas to New Orleans, but due to a drought and the Panic of 1873, he was forced to end the drive in the Calcasieu area after crossing the Sabine River; he then sold his cattle and settled in near Lake Charles. McNeese earned his law degree from Tulane University; the next year, he became the first Superintendent of Schools of Imperial Calcasieu Parish. As superintendent, McNeese made numerous advancements to the state of education in the parish. In 1940, Lake Charles Junior College changed its name to John McNeese Junior College to recognize McNeese; this institution is now McNeese University.
Looking forward to the game.
I was there in 2002 but just can't make it there this time. I'll be sitting in front of the TV though.
