  1. So, if I understand this, we never boo, because we are too classy. Yet, we think our HC should be fired after 5 games (subset of "fans"), ran our last coach out of town on a rail for only winning 9 games a season and can't win a championship even though we are champions. The attendance record is the most important claim we have, but the fans must continue to support the program financially and suffer through mediocrity.

I don't get it. I have been (one of) the last handful of fans remaining in the stadium after the last two road games I have been to. There was no standing by the road and cheering as the victor walked by. There were angry, Husker fans that were just like the opponents we mock and ridicule. That's fact. We aren't at all who we profess to be. We aren't. We're not smarter or better than anyone. We are simply a fan base that is passionate for our team, who want to support them with all of our hearts, yet suffer through year after year of suck that we cannot control. We are frustrated and have lost our way. (see what I did there?)

I challenge all of you, to go out there tomorrow and cheer in support for the team. Regardless of whether you like our AD or our HC or whatever. Show up and support the program, the players and the staff who give so much to us. If we get blown out (again) by Wisconsin, then accept that they are the better team and stay in the stadium to the bitter end, cheer for them and then regroup for there will be another game. Maybe we lose that one too and this season becomes a total disaster. Even if that happens, are we not Huskers? I say we are, through good times and bad.

So my challenge is to quit being a-holes. Be the fan we think that we are (but REALLY aren't). Everyone I talk too makes fun of us because we are stupid. Let's band together and stop the insanity. Riley is our coach. Maybe .500 is who we are destined to be as a result. Even if that is the case, I am STILL A HUSKER. No matter what. I am going to stop being a douche though. Hope you can too.

  2. EVERY win means a lot. This is college football, for christ sake!

regardless of Wisconsin's perceived strength or weakness, we should want and need to beat them every year. They are a divisional opponent, if nothing more.

They ARE more, though. They have had our number, and need to be put back in their place.

Put back in their place? What if their run of dominance over us IS their place and to continue the analysis, also shows us OUR place in this conference?

We aren't competing well against the top teams in this conference, hell, we haven't done that in any conference for a decade and a half. So, what is our place? And looking at recent history, what is it that makes us feel entitled to act like conference champions? Champions have to win championships.

  3. Never been and no desire to go. Just seems like glorified MAC experience in a crap stadium. Just seems like UI doesn't want to make any investment in coaching facilities etc and want to suck off the B1G teat. I am sure they will go cheap on their next coaching hire.

Uhh, what? are we now sucking off that same teat?????

  4. So...if winning 9 insignificant games a year is enough, losing the big ones, often embarassingly so...who do we want to be? Champions? if so, we haven't done that in forever. So, what do we want to be? Other fanbases mock us for living in the past. I have seen it.

So, maybe we give Riley time to recruit to his system and see what he is capable of. This is Nebraska. We have the best facilities on the planet (circa 1994). I am tired of the constant jibber-jabber about what we did under TO. That is ancient history. What we have done lately, well...we are good at losing.

  5. Gamed goes to where they think the most relevant game is. We have NOT been nationally relevant for a very long time. We need to come to terms with that. Outside of Nebraska, the rest of the country barely knows that we exist.

  6. I once read an article that studied betting patterns. It showed that the public bets on teams that have brand recognition/ bluebloods that have been great in the past (no surprise there). So what does it mean for the bookmakers? It means they take a team like Nebraska, which much of the public remembering the 1990s domincance, and they try to push that line as high as they can while keeping the money on Nebraska. They do this thinking this actual 2015 Nebraska team is not as good as a lot of the public's perception of Nebraska of years past.

The blueblood programs with strong fanbase/brand recognition are giant cash cows for Vegas when they go on a slump (which 100% of them do at some point)

Interesting. But after 16 years, can we still consider not winning anything a slump? I don't think so. We are far beyond a slump.

  7.

Alabama did not curb stomp Wisconsin. They were and are dealing with a ton of injuries, yet hung pretty well with the Tide. That said, without their OL and starting tailback, they have emerged as more of a passing threat. I wouldn't count them out to come to Lincoln and beat us.

I am not exactly sure what game you watched but the 35-17 game I watched was a beat down by Alabama. They ran them into the ground. No one is counting them out as far as winning in Lincoln, but they didn't look that good against Alabama.

70-31 was a beat-down. Alabama ran all over Wisconsin's D after their all-conference safety got knocked into the next century. Hard to say where they are without their tailback and we won't know for a few more weeks until they start conference play, but their QB is improving and the receivers have started to step up. Their coach was the architect behind some of their tremendous offenses under that clown in Arkansas. He turned Tolzien into an NFL backup and finished off Wilson's development. Their QB now is a different player than he was last year when he nearly quit after losing the job to their new 2-way threat.

I wouldn't count them out in the West. Definitely a better shot than what we have.

  8.

How does the saying go "Hope is not a successful strategy"?

i dont coach the team. I just cheer for them. Ill continue to have hope. Im not losing my job if my hope doesnt win us the conference title.

Umm. My kids and my dogs weren't alive the last time we WON ANYTHING. Conference title? Seems like a great accomplishment right now. That sounds like a good goal.

  9. Couple of thoughts.

I watched the replay and saw as many late hits out of bounds committed by our guys as the plays many of us have been complaining about, among other non-calls. More importantly, as a fan base, we need to quit the charade. We need to stop telling everyone how great we are as fans. We're not. We're not different or smarter or better than any other passionate fan base and it seems hypocritical that we tell everyone that we are. Fact: we don't clap for the opponent if they come to our house and beat us. We don't. So, the fact that we do when they lose is not just stupid, it's classless and offensive. Can we just admit that? Be honest with ourselves?

We are a passionate fan base and are desperate for a championship. But, we aren't better than any other fan base.

  10.

I'm guessing 8 wins. I think we'll lose to Miami, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Minnesota or Northwestern. I'm okay with that assuming we improve next year.

so we don't beat a single team with a pulse

I'm in the camp that thinks the 1st year is difficult. I believe I've always said I think we'll have 8 or 9 wins in year 1 and then get better.

    Ha ha ha ha

  11. This is a serious question to those who have coached defense. Why give the receivers enough time to run down the field a get position in the end zone, and give the QB plenty of time to make the throw. You guarantee the ball will make it to the end zone with 5 offense players there. It seems stupid to me. Rush at least 4, maybe 5, and make the QB get rid of the ball. You still have enough players to keep two safeties deep.

Why hand out black shirts to a defense that hadn't done anything? How does that motivate the defense? Seems to me it is more like giving out participation ribbons and orange slices, but maybe that is MR's coaching style.
