  1. Any guess on when Adam Silver and the NBA announce Ja's punishment?  And what that punishment will be?  There are reports that the decision has been made, but Adam and the NBA Player Union right didn't want to release it right away so as not to take the focus off of the Finals.  I personally think he will be suspended until the All-Star Break (60ish games).   I think the NBA wants to send a clear message to both current and future players that guns are not part of the NBA culture and will drop the hammer on Ja.   I also wouldn't be surprised if it will be for the entire season and having conditions attached that need to be met before being re-instated.

Denver's core players are in their prime and signed for another two years. Not only do they get to celebrate, they probably have the fewest question marks in the league.

Mini-dynasty ready to go.  If that core stays healthy (mostly Jokic and Jamal) they are primed to be threats for at least the next 2 years.

If anyone knows how to find it easily I'd love to see how Jokic's field goal percentage ranks all-time in Finals and Playoff history.

This is career based, he's around 20th.  Numbers 1 & 2 really surprised me.   But then I remember the stat of who has the best FG% for the Lakers in their history and I was like...oh well that's dumb (it's JaVale McGee at 1 and Dwight Howard at 2 cause all they did was dunks and layups).

    https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/highest-field-goal-percentage-in-playoff-history-minimum-10-field-goals-attempts-per-game

Here is single season record.  Jokic doesn't make the top 250 all time, this stat doesn't have a minimum per game requirement.  Has a minimum for playoff year.  Had to have at least 20 FGs during the playoffs.

Luckily I don't have a job that I have to worry about customers stealing.   But I tell my kids who both work in retail, it's not your stuff, you aren't the law.  You report it, you get as much information as you can, but you do not escalate it.   You don't know how desperate that person is and what they are willing and capable of doing.

I repeatedly tell them, with the way people are w/guns, and how prevalent they are in society today, you better be willing to die for what ever it is you are trying to prevent, otherwise don't interfere.   The way this bill reads to me, store employees, don't escalate the situation and potentially turn a shoplifting situation into a gun battle.  I'm OK with this.  I don't want people to shoplift, but I'd rather it be shoplifting than getting people shot.

It's early and I haven't had my coffee but I am pretty sure that is not how math works.

haha, wow, yeah..added three extra zeros, this is why I don't do payroll.   :bang

Still over 1.1 Billion annually  is a lot to even get the Domers to consider joining a conference.

Currently 22M/yr I think. They are shooting for 75M to 100M. I do not think it's finalized, but I haven't been paying attention.

according to an August report from Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand, it should expect around $60 million per year.

If the expected amount is true, they won't be taking a pay cut to join a conference.   So any conference will have to have team distributions north of $60M per team to even interest the Irish.  With an 18 team conference we are talking TV contract north of 1.1 trillion annually.    :o

Longtime Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick is retiring in 2024 and will be replaced by NBC Sports Chairman Pete Bevacqua.  This might be very good for the B1G.

Having an AD in the BigTen's corner is nice, but it's the AD's bosses that need to be swayed for the move.   If 4-5 on the Board of Trustees were wanting to make the move, even better.

I feel ya, and I agree except the players I noted are among the most known "greatest players in NBA history".  We've heard of their accomplishments every day or every year.  So my point was, Jokic did something the greatest players to walk onto a basketball court - never did.

I think that is pretty amazing.

I agree, we are all seeing how good he is now that he has the spotlight solely on Denver, all while in the flow of Denver's offense.   But I would be even more amazed if Steph had a 20 rebound game, or Kobe etc.   That takes nothing away from them being Mt Rushmore type players, they aren't the mold of Jokic.   And I would be gobsmacked to see Jokic go 12 for 16 on 3s and run his defender through hundreds of screens a game like Steph does.   Greatness doesn't come neatly in stats.   I mean, if that were the case, more people would be talking about David Robinson and Hakeem and their quadruple doubles, 2 of only 4 players to ever have done it ever in the NBA.   The 30-20-10 is rare, but happens more often than you would think, it's just the first time it happened in the Finals.  It's happened multiple times in the playoffs and even more in the regular season.  Heck Jokic did it earlier this playoffs.  It's an accomplishment, but it's not as unique  in terms of accomplishments.   Just a cursory search and Wilt had the same 30-20-10 15 times in his career.

I bet we see some ACC schools join before anymore PAC schools.  Miami is a sure bet for one of the teams along with NC.

If Miami does join the BigTen, IMO, just adds more reason for ND to join.  Most of their rivals (UM, USC, and the U) would be in BigTen, would just need to add the tree, and I don't know how important that game is to ND.    Add Miami, UNC, ND and screw the Big XII, let's get UConn too.   Would put the BigTen as the top of the mountain (in terms of viewership) in both Football and Basketball.

The first....   more like "THE ONLY" time this has ever happened in the NBA Finals - EVER

NBA's greatest players that never ever did this -

    Kobe

    LeBron

    Durrant

    Steph Curry

    Shaq

    Jordan

    Bird

    Magic

    Olajuwon

    etc, etc, etc....

    Nobody.

It is not the first time.

It is THE only time it has been done.

    Nikoa Jokic

Most of the guys you listed would never have a chance to do this.   Players like Wilt, Hakeem, Bill Walton and Kareem would be my guesses to who would have been the closest to doing this in the past.   Most players like your list just are never going to get that many rebounds and that was never their role in their systems.   Shaq, could have, but in a Finals game, I can't see him passing it 10 times.

Most have never seen him play in his prime, but reports are we are seeing the closest to what a prime Arvydas Sabonis was like, what could have been if he would have had the chance to come to the NBA earlier.

That said, people talking about Wembanyama being a unicorn coming next year, I counter that we already have a unicorn in Jokic.   While he's a decent defender and not athletic at all, he is hands down the best player in the league right now.   I hope he can be the start of the trend where we have skilled big man that can post up, stretch the floor, and be the de-facto QB of the offense.   Tired of seeing wannabe Steph's and Klay's.  I'd much rather see poor man version of Jokic taking over the NBA going forward.

It’s weird.  20-30 years ago people would be freaking out about this revelation.  Now it’s almost like, hmm yeah not really too surprising.   Then again the skeptic in me thinks all this UFO stuff over the years since probably the Roswell Incident, could just be some ongoing misinformation program by the government in order to keep our enemies thinking we are reverse engineering some crazy stuff.  I would think some pictures or physical evidence would have leaked out by now.  I don’t know what to believe.  It sure is interesting, though.

The most interesting comment about this and comes with great skepticism, was this was a planned leak because one of our adversaries (most likely China) are further along in reverse engineering what they have and could use that against us.   This was more of a call to put this out in the open so we can have some of our allies join us and collab to reverse engineer what we all have so we can be first and we (the US and our allies) can dictate how it is used and who gets to use it.   They then linked some comments from a congressional hearing a few months back and this leak and tie it all together.  It was interesting comment.

I mean the biggest problem for Denver last night was their defense. MPJ looked hopeless out there last night, KCP had some boneheaded fouls, Murray getting cooked. If they just locked in on defense in the 4th they win that game but they didn't. It wasn't the fact that Jokic had only 4 assists that they lost that game.

Murray isn't a great defender, KCP was boneheaded.  For KCP, once a Lakers player, always a Lakers player, it felt like we led the league in fouling 3 point shooters.   MPJ has had his defensive effort questioned since he joined the league.   For the most part he's really improved on that in the last few years.  He will still have stretches where he's not good, but overall he's one of their better defenders.   And for as great as Jokic is, he's average as a defender.  Luckily, there aren't many skilled bigs he has to worry about.   Denver beats you by coming at you in waves and being really efficient on offense and being decent to average on defense, they really don't have anyone that will lock down a player.   When their opponent is clicking on offense, it's about out-scoring them versus shutting them down.

Oof, rough game last night. Very disappointing games from MPJ and KCP. KCP scored 6 points and gifted the Heat 6 on stupid fouls on threes. Very frustrating game to watch, but here's my glass is half full takeaway. The Heat came out and played an excellent game, balanced with contributions from a lot of players. The Nuggets played one of the worst games that I've seen them have in quite a while, outside of Jokic putting up points. Their bench actually played really well, but the starters were garbage. They gave up a 10 point lead in the fourth, that just can't happen.

Still, despite all that, they were very close to forcing OT. They need to go to Miami and at least take one there, and I'll feel good again. I'm still feeling Nuggets in five, but who knows?

    :koolaid2:

Miami did the strategy that I wanted the Lakers to employ.   Let Jokic go off, but contain everyone else.   Don't double him, just don't let him get his assists and get everyone else going.   That seems to be the best way to slow this team down, that I've seen so far.   I think ESPN brought it up, but Dray said they way to beat them is to keep Jokic under 6 assists.  If you do that, odds are you will win.   7+ assists, it switches to Denver being favored.

A lot of folks thought KD left because of a locker room blow up with Draymond. But last year Durant appeared on Draymond's podcast and not only were they all chummy, they both blamed KDs leaving on Warriors management. Who knows.

Interesting.  I haven't listened to Dray's podcast.  His and the 'All the Smoke' podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson are podcasts I keep thinking I want to check out, just not sure which ones to cut from my current rotation to add more.

Draymond seems to have great relationships with a lot of other players, including LeBron and Durant. His podcast -- which I've never heard -- is apparently smart, honest and well respected. He's gonna do fine when his playing days are over.

He does occasionally drive Warriors fans crazy, and we're wondering if this is the year both parties move on. I'm thinking Draymond really doesn't mesh with other teams or their fanbases, but I'm probably wrong.

Huh, I thought the reason KD wanted out was because of Dray.   Seems like I’ve read innuendos that those two don’t get along.  Dray is hated by most fan bases, but based on what I’ve seen of him, home fans will change their tune quickly with him.  He plays hard, intelligent, does the dirty work and will aggravate the opposing teams.  Home crowds will love him.   The only concern with him, is how far past his prime is he and how quickly will his defensive skills fall off the cliff?

I know I might get s#!t for this, but I always liked Draymond Green.  Love his game and his personality.  He goes overboard on the court sometimes, and we all see that and hate it.  But, he's a good guy and plays an enforcer role.  Occasionally dirty, but he aint being a POS like Laimbeer or Kendrick Perkins on the court - because they actually had issues with who they guarded.  Perkins still hates Dirk (for dropping 44 and 48 on him in playoff games against OKC) and that fact that Perkins calls him Nowinnski.   Draymond Green isn't like that.  He respects and loves guys that ball - including Luka.  Draymond plays a tough game and has great skills to enforce, rebound, pass, set screens, and shoot.  Kendrick Perkins and Laimbeer were a$$h@!es as people and played liked a$$h@!es.  They still are today.

Dray is the guy you love to 'hate' but want on your team.   His BB IQ is one of the best in the game, knows his role and excels in it.   Outside of Poole and KD (and KD seems like he has issues with a lot of former teammates), he seems universally loved by his teammates.
