Things I hope for from this staff...

    3) Experienced QB coach. someone that has directly coached upper level college quarterbacks

We have one. His name is Mike Riley

Things I hope for from this staff...

    1) a fresh start... there are coaches I like from the old staff, but just feel the whole thing needs to be wiped clean.

    2) player development...we see raw talent all over the field... time to refine it.

    3) Experienced QB coach. someone that has directly coached upper level college quarterbacks

    4) selective recruiting... recruit kids to a system, look for that 4* in a 3* and 5* in a 4*... don't need to be Top 10 classes, but Top 25ish w/great coaching will get it done.

I believe HE will be the QB coach. And history has shown he's darn good at it.

I gotcha both.... but I prefer he wasn't. this program needs the head coach to be a CEO.

He's done it for YEARS, he knows how to be a HC and a QB coach. I'd be more concerned about a FIRST time HC trying to be a coordinator or a position coach as well. Not a seasoned coach with proven success.

  3. Cornhusker football coach Mike Riley said about hiring his new staff that he looks for two things:

"They must be experts and treat people right."

In light of those comments and in looking at those remaining from Bo Pelini's previous staff, I can't imagine how Ron Brown is not retained under Mike Riley. I think Coach Brown would continue to be an excellent assistant for Nebraska as he has been for the past 20 plus years. He would also be a perfect bridge between the old staff & new staff.

So who all do you want to see on the next Cornhusker football staff?

    Garrison--OL

    Warren--DB

    Brown--RB

Fairly sure he's bringing in his WR from OSU.

Torn on Ed, he's a bit gruff, but he's an excellent coach and recruiter. Not sure about the 'treats people the right way' part.

He wants a full time ST coach, Baron Miles lobbied to come back when the DB coaching position opened up, he would be a candidate for that role, IMO.

    Frost--QB

So that would leave LB and DL (if Ed isn't coming) I'm not versed enough in position coaches to state any other person.

With my list, we do have a nice blend of former 'Huskers to help instill the meaning of being a Husker, some outstanding recruiters and coaches, and really some outstanding men that will help mold these boys into great men.

  4. While listening to Mike Riley's press conference this guy has sold his ideas on me! I love the fact that he is going to hold his coaches accountable in regards to how they coach our student athletes. I love how he is embracing the tradition at Nebraska and the core values that our university stands for. Now I see how every coach in the country likes this guy. I also love the fact how he says that he and his staff needs to hit the recruiting trail fast! Welcome to Nebraska Coach Riley, you have gained a HUGE fan in me! GO BIG RED!!!

Did he mention how he was going to distribute Blackshirts? :funnyhahah

Reports are he and Frost are meeting this weekend, and Riley isn't bringing but 2-3 of his staff from OSU, including what many consider the BEST WR coach in college. I think the checkbook will be open for assistants. I am hoping he gets Frost, keeps Warren and Garrison, adds Oregeron. We will have some hellagood recruiters, and from what I've seen solid coaches/teachers as well.

    Link to these reports?

I'm not sure it's made it to any sort of linkable place. Reports is the wrong word, it was "reported" to me, that said he's meeting with Frost this weekend. I know based on the interview with Frost's dad, he's open to the idea. And in an article discussing the 'rivalry' between Oregon and State, Frost stated it's more the fans, some of his best friends coach on the other sideline.

  7. Pretty good chance that Courtney Love and Greg Hart transfer to UK. That's what I read on the cats message board.

Love is a really huge loss since the LB spot is thin with roach and zaire out of eligibility after this season. That would leave Santos, Banderas, Michael Rose being the only LBs who've played significant minutes

Both were gone if Bo stayed, both are now in limbo waiting for the new coach. If they leave it'll be to UK, it'll all depend on who is hired.

IF Love leaves, we are incredibly thin at LB. That will be a glaring hole that needs resolved, even if Love stays.

  8. Mr. Fox says he has talked to Tressel. Let's see former player talking to his coach....... Yea I buy it. That's a way better source than any of you have provided on here.

Or until it's officially announced Tressel is saying no to it? Not saying he's wrong, but I know (and we can all spout examples) coaches lie when it comes to future gigs until the i's are crossed and the t's are dotted.

  9.

would really like to see Mullen or McElwain.

Frost should get a serious look

I have seen a number of people make "CEO" comments... maybe out of left field, but what about Tony Dungy?

I would jizz myself if we hired Dungy. Great coach, man, and mentor.

He is, and he's the only one I believe that when he says he's done, he's done. I just don't envision him getting back into coaching.

  10. Ok, so lets say Tressel and Frost come....what happens next? Honestly if Frost comes, Ron Brown is a guaranteed stay. Fill in the rest...

    HC - Tressel

    OC - Frost

    DC -

DL - Ed Orgeron (I've wanted him on staff since I heard him speak at coaches clinic last spring, and he recruits well)

    LB -

    DB -

WR - Ron Brown or ?

RB - Ron Brown or ?

    TE -

    OL -

OL--Garrison (I think he's a lock to stay if Frost comes)

    DB--Warren

    The rest will be interesting.

  11. I like the idea of going after someone like Jack Del Rio, from my understanding he interviewed for USC(alma mater) but was passed over. I know that it is worrisome to go after another NFL guy but Del Rio did a lot with little in Jacksonville and would definitely have the connections and smarts to get able bodied assistants

The fear I have with him, or any NFL guy, is the practice schedule. We saw it in during the dark years, we are hearing about it now, the back-ups do not get enough reps in practice and are not being developed. I fear he would go to the schedule he knows and is comfortable with teaching his system, and that would likely mean the starters getting 70%+ of the reps, the rest learning during position group drills and watching. Just not enough talent development. I personally prefer a college guy, who has a history of developing players.

  12. While we are throwing out HC ideas....Minter for DC or DB coach? He is doing well at Cambell University, obvious Husker great and great job in the NFL (screwed on no Pro Bowls IMO).

All depends on the coach and the style he wants to run. I personally would like him and Bullocks (for at least DB coach) to be considered, but I still want the best coach/teacher for the position regardless of former Husker ties. That said, Minter would be a great way to re-introduce the value and importance of the Blackshirt. Re-ignite the fire and passion that the Blackshirt meant and still means to the fans.

  13. Rick Neuheisel: You want a hell of a quarterback? Hire Rick after he has racked up half the family estate in Vegas, and just turn him loose on the QB's. Youll HAVE a hell of a quarterback!

Funny you say his name, I've actually quietly wished for one of his former QBs to join the staff as early as next season. Former NFL QB, has strong ties to Texas HS, as he is currently a coach for a Texas HS team with his Dad. For me, the offense I'd like to run, very similar to Stanford, power running game, smart QB that can pass the ball and maybe run if he needs to, I think this coach would be a good fit for that system. Problem is, most Husker fans would lambaste the hire of Koy Detmer.

  14. This kind of has the feel of when NFL fans root for their team to suck so they get a high draft pick. That pick could be a boom or bust, just like a new coach.

Still, I can't bring myself to root against Nebraska, just can't do it. Just like I couldn't root for Miami this year.

This practice has happened in the NBA for years, the 76ers are on a 4 year plan of tanking to keep stock piling talent.

As for this thread, I'll always root for the players to succeed. They give so much blood, sweat and tears to the program that I support, I'll NEVER wish a loss upon them. In the grand scheme of things, a loss and a firing won't hurt Bo. He'll get paid and land on his feet with another great gig. There are at least 14 players who will be playing their last two games as Huskers, maybe their last two games ever, I'm not going to be so selfish and wish they lose because I don't like the coach. After 7 years, there's ample evidence for what the outcome should be, these last two games shouldn't move the line at all.

  15. There will be no coach showing up in Lincoln, or the state of Nebraska, for a meeting or interview until Pelini is let go. Period.

I'd venture to guess there will be no coach showing up in Lincoln for a meeting or interview even after Pelini is let go. I assume, because of this type of tracking that interviews will be done at a neutral location, making it harder to discern who has actually interviewed.
