Worth considering how many portal players want to sign on as a role player at this stage. No obvious starting position up for grabs and I think many of those in the portal are looking for more minutes/opportunities... not sure if we offer that very well with who we have already signed and those we have coming back.

At some point reality will start to set in for some of these players.  That a role player situation at Nebraska, is better than starting in lower conference.

Sort of...I mean there will always be the starter and a backup.

What it is probably more of is your developmental guys are no longer developing at your place...

Why sit at NU when you can start to Toledo and make some cash and transfer.

I try to look at it if it was me or if it was a family member.

Would I rather sit and maybe get paid "something" or leave, get paid more (hopefully) and play.

It is such an interesting situation because you get 5 years...and then it is gone, forever.  It is like a great sci-fi book...and the last chapter is 5 years from the start of the book and it is "your end".

For me, I am a creature of habit and I hate moving/changing, I would 99% stay.  But I can see why others leave and you are kind of right, the 2nd stringer is sort of dying out.

Who says a MAC team can pay anything on NIL?

There are rumblings that Power 5 teams can barely pay anything to the starters.  UCLA for example.  Has maybe 1 million/year to pay out to ALL student athletes.

To me that is what is so goofy about the money argument.  Nebraska, by all accounts is in the top 10 in NIL money in the country.  To me the only reason players will leave this situation is if they don't care about money, or they don't like the situation here.  (Which I think is nuts, but to each their own)

About time for helmet commination.  But we're still going to see coaches sending in signals and those signs with symbols on the sidelines because of the amount of no huddle that CFB teams run.

2 minute warning, whatever.  I don't think its needed with clocks stopping for 1st downs.  And the powers that be said it won't be adding any commercial time to the games, just shifting around when the commercials happen.

This doesn't happen until under 2 minutes now.  That rule changed several years ago.

And all I am saying is that, when it comes to "fandom," there is nothing inherently superior about men's sports vs womens, it is just what has been broadcast and hyped for the past 50 years.  There is a reason that when you make Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese a "thing," people are interested. There is a reason, when Nebraska volleyball is a "thing", people follow that much more passionately than they do mens soccer. There is a reason when you create a fan following, fans follow.

The networks weren't shoving women's basketball at us this year. The networks saw a revenue stream and exploited it. Basketball fans tuned in because the product delivered.

The bolded is why they were successful this year.  Women's sports in recent years has improved quite a bit to actually be somewhat entertaining.  Previous to that, it was not watchable.  That to me is a reason for the success.  Then you throw in a few superstars that are intriguing. (name me an intriguing women's basketball superstar from the early 2010s?)  Boom, here you go.

In other words.  It's a bit of both of what you guys are saying.  And to EC's point, what happens next year.  Does Juju take the mantle from Clark?

The fact that I even know who Juju is, is a testament.  (assuming that is her name.  The superstar freshman from SoCal)

  5. Only two of those players were contributing to the success this season and honestly Wilcher was more or less a senior.

so not a huge deal on that front. Depth wise though it sucks.

This is what a lot of people have had an issue with, myself included.  It's possible to do a pretty nice upgrade without spending a HALF A BILLION dollars.  What is it with that price tag?

@Mavric Lorewarn hit it, reduced the amount of money for the university, which led to a reduction for this project.

Which, to be honest, is probably a good thing.  That expansion project was way to much all at once.  As the Husker Online guys said in their last podcast.  Just do South Stadium alone for now and leave all of the other stuff for a later date.  Take the 450 million project and maybe cut it to 250 million.

Oddly, this does not seem to be the case.

Which makes Trev's decision even more strange.

Agreed, this makes even less sense now.  So we are down to more conjecture.

He left because he dreamt a bit to big on the stadium remodel and was getting spanked in the fund raising efforts and bailed in order to save face.

He left because of the lawsuit, but that seems unlikely given what others have already said.

He really just left to pad his resume for future Commissioner roles.  (seems most likely with a sprinkling of nbr 1)

The employee doesn't get to hire the boss, but the employee doesn't have to stay if he doesn't like the boss(es). The two key figures he signed on to lead "under" were Carter and Green. Green left, the Board of Regents changed the structure to have the AD directly report to the President (Carter). Carter leaves, "interim" President inserted who Trev doesn't align with and Trev bails. There is probably more nuance to the decisions made, but on the surface it appears that Trev didn't like his new boss and didn't see a path where their visions could line up together.

I hope the Regents strongly evaluate who they end up signing on as the University President.

So, why again is that a problem?  Maybe the BoR and the new president didn't want to spend a half a billion dollars on a stadium project.  They could build a new one for close to that. Not NFL quality but pretty damn nice.  Trev might want it to happen, but he wasn't budging at all on the scope of the stadium project.  Which leads us to where we are now.

The BoR changed the structure, because Carter left for a top 3 presidents job in the country.  Otherwise Trev would not have had anyone to report to.  And as has been stated the 200 + days to find a new president and chancellor is not far off from the "norm"

It's not about the politics per se, which is a symptom of a greater problem, it's about the incompetence of the people in leadership (which is a common trend). You don't drive away 3 different people, in 3 different positions of leadership, from vastly different backgrounds, who are all well respected because you have quality leadership above them... Like you said, who did they all report to?

It doesn't matter who they report to.

Greene retired after a very long run

Carter left for a top gig in the entire country

Alberts left for a top gig in the entire country (that throws around money like a drunken sailor)

They left for other reasons other than what some keep implying.

UNL is not a top gig in the country. it can be top 10, but it is not top 3 or even top 5

  11. It sounds like that the Interim President might be getting the Interim tag removed.  And he doesn't agree with the half a billion dollar stadium renovation. (which is a bit excessive as most have stated.)  Trev got pissed and took his ball and ran to a place where they throw money around like a drunken millionaire at a strip joint.

    Trev = coward.

It really is beginning to look that way.  Again, maybe in a few years we can look back and see that he was Nostradamus, but at least stick around and work with the new guy before bailing on your Alma Mater

Someone posted earlier and it seems like it was pretty accurate. "People don't quit jobs, they quit bosses"

And to me that is pretty petty.  The employee doesn't get to hire their boss.  Could you imagine the problems that would create!

Not to say they don't have input, but it's not their decision to make.
