  1. Right now, NU’s offense looks like the 2nd Coming of Adrian Martinez. There WERE some plays with impressive O-Line PUSH. But we need to see the other running backs doing something. Rahmir J. has done nothing rushing OR receiving. Turning to Grant as the #2 & he knows it.

Sims telegraphs where he is going. Not seeing him going through progressions on pass plays.

  2. Total yards are within a point of each other. NU is averaging 4.6 yds/pass

    Minn is averaging 4.8 yds/pass

NO TE receptions by NU in the first half.

Not enough rushing yards by guys not named Sims.

    No penalties on Minn?!?

NU down two turnovers but only down 3 on the scoreboard. The game is very much winnable. But we need to see what Rhules halftime adjustments look like.

I am excited to see Singleton at safety.  He is so tall and rangy at that position.

Also curious to see the other starting safety who is a Minneapolis native, Omar Brown. Playing before family and friends is a big motivator and he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder for Minnesota overlooking him in recruitment. Now he's a Blackshirt for Rhule's Game One.

  4. Two of the intriguing (Minnesota native) player story lines of the evening may involve:

    • Minnesota's "Mr. Football" 2021, Emmitt Johnson, will be returning home and presumably playing before family and friends (always a motivator). He chose Nebraska and will be one of the Nebraska kickoff returners this evening - and Rhule has said he doesn't like to fair catch.

    • The same goes for Omar Brown, from Minneapolis, who has had this game circled on his calendar for a while and is quietly playing with a chip on his shoulder for being overlooked by Minnesota. He's on the depth chart as the Cornhusker starting safety tonight.

  5. WIND FORECAST

The model expected 11 kts (12.6 mph) winds (not gusts). Here are the most recently observed wind conditions at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport  (not far from the stadium, but west of the river). The G number is for highest wind Gust recorded. The highest gust of the day, so far (36 mph) was recorded most recently - just before 4 PM.

Looking at the short term weather model (forecast), it looks like kickoff time is expected to be 8-9 kts (9-10 mph). Interestingly, however, if the forecast verifies, it appears that the winds will decrease a bit after kickoff. 6 kts (7 mph) is forecast by 8 PM and should remain around there until the end of the game. Wind remains out of the SSE/SE for the duration of the game. Higher gusts are, of course, possible.

If the forecast trend is accurate, the passing game may be more of an option after the first quarter.

It seems to be a far cry from what the models were predicting a few days ago (25 mph winds out of the south).

    There...I did it.

I figured that if I expect our football team to do everything that is expected of them to be a good football team and be committed to excellence, I thought I should be able to read the entire OP.

I'm committed now to excellence.  GBR!!!!

Good work. Now be sure to stay hydrated.

  7. The clips they make from the full episodes are pretty good. It's good grist for the Twitter-mill and particularly recruits.

And I'm glad to have the content to occupy us prior to the season.

I'm glad the students get some work in their field (video/multimedia/whatever) and have the access that Rhule gives them.

But man, do they need to learn how to curate the content and edit it. Those long team meeting "clips" are far too long and garbled (perhaps on purpose) but what is the point of showing them (as long as they are) if it isn't compelling content? Editing is a big part of the process - cutting the fat, so the remaining meat is more interesting/impactful. I'd much rather have a high quality 30 minute episode than a 60 minute episode with 30 minutes of good content.

But it's not like I had to pay to watch it (or had to watch it at all).

Ummm, volleyball in a football forum ???

I'm glad you feel happy, but that is a chick sport with spandex shorts.  Lots of older guys love it.  We have them here on the board.

Not blaming you, but if the bowling team wore spandex would you feel the same way? Would you follow it?  And if the girls rifle team won today, would you be this happy?  If the lady's volleyball team didn't win much, but still wore little shorts, bending over and jumping and diving, would there really be this much excitement for a covered sport ??

Given your logic, Nebraska Women’s BEACH Volleyball should be the MOST followed sports program at the University of Nebraska.

Also, are you saying you want to see them diving & bending in wide legged shorts? Or maybe burkas would meet with your approval.

Your post is hilarious. It tries to be defending women from sexist fans, but refers to women’s athletics as “chick sports”. Your level of enlightenment is truly staggering.

You know it's a solid post when you get every emoji possible in your post.  Great info.  A lot of info.  Great points.  Hoping we get the W.  Can't state how important and HUGE that would be.  I think we are 0-4 in the last home openers....

Thanks. Just glad I could knock “Gilbert Arrested” off of the top spot on the Leaderboard for 8/30/23.

Dang.  How long did that take to type?

I know that many people, particularly millennials, won't bother reading and will simply TL;DR.

But I needed to channel my enthusiasm for tomorrow night's game SOMEHOW and this was it. :)

Teddy and Washington still out but Rhule said both are on track to be available against Minnesota.

Rhule seems to be all about players taking care of their bodies and proper recovery - so I’m hoping that he is as anal at managing THAT as he has been everything else. That means making players available for when it matters: Game Day.

  12. I just want to say that some good discussion came in the wake of my post (that was not simply checking which way the wind was blowing in the room and playing echo chamber). So, I’m glad I said what I said - but also appreciate the responses of EVERYONE who commented afterwards. To me, that is what this forum SHOULD BE about. Thoughtful perspectives, respectfully shared, by all.

please keep the conspiracy theories in the P&R forum where they belong

I have no theory. I have questions. That's what is supposed to be asked at a press conference.

    Also:

“Conspiracy theory” is widely acknowledged to be a loaded term. Politicians use it to mock and dismiss allegations against them, while philosophers and political scientists warn that it could be used as a rhetorical weapon to pathologize dissent. So in essence, by labeling my desire for more QUESTIONS to be asked and answered a "Conspiracy Theory", you are doing the same thing that Garrett's "With all due respect..." line did. More misdirection.
