Regretfully, I agree.  The regretful part is that Bo often was not the best representative of the school.  But perhaps it is better to have a sometimes well meaning jerk who wins vs a nice guy who loses.

Or a Vikings fan as well.

I believe that.  Vikings fans are the most miserable people on Twitter/X.  It's either football trauma or 7 months of winter.  Maybe both.

Utah State gutted that out and got their 6th win to earn extra practice.

That and was darn lucky on a fumbled snap.

Explain it to me like I'm 5. Why is this something the BigXII wants? I thought realignment was all about football. Gonzaga doesn't have that program. I can't imagine adding a basketball school will bring that much extra revenue to the BigXII from media contracts and dilutes the shares. Would the addition even bring enough revenue in to offset the share that the Zags would get?

Also, why would Gonzaga want to do this? They have a pretty sweet deal in the WCC where they get a bigger portion of the revenue and have the power to run the league. Going to the BigXII, they will get a smaller portion of the revenue and have an increased cost in transportation and be the after thought school in all decisions. Add in they no longer will be playing glorified DII schools in conference, goodbye being a top seed and dollars to donuts they will be no higher than 4th seed in the BigXII tournaments. If the Zags are really looking to move, it would be a better fit sports wise to go to the Big East and bring St Marys and maybe USanFran and St Louis too

I don't really understand it either other than Yormark likes Gonzaga and he wants to bid out the football and basketball separately.  Last I had read quite a few Big XII schools were pretty lukewarm on the idea of adding Gonzaga.

Are those 3 guys game changers?  Have they been game changers?  TBH, I'd say that Liberty's skill guys and QB are better than ours.  And that's an issue.  Better talent or development?

Chadwell knows his scheme forwards and backwards.  It's his.  A lot of read option, misdirection and RPO. One predicated with the run, attack the perimeter with QB or a pass.  More like a triple option with the receiver as an option.  Also uses mostly 20/21 personnel.  Something that would bode well with NU's stable of backs.  I also like that much like TO, they have a set of core plays/principles that they run through a lot of different motions and formations. It's a unique option, and much like TO's is difficult to devote a lot of practice to as it isn't that common. Plus I am biased.  I like a run based scheme.

Chubba is the best QB on the roster and it's not even close.  I loved the misdirection in the first quarter, but do not remember seeing it again.

End of the day, I just want NU to win again.  I do not think we will get to where we want to be with Satt as the OC.  If we go all WCO, Spread, Pro Style, Texas Coast etc...I don't care.  Just win.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chadwell ends up in Starkville at Mississippi State.

I’m going to keep preaching it. Our OL and defense has to be our identity. This must be the foundation.  I give credit for the defense making progress. We legitimately can recruit kids to come be a Blackshirt, that is a culture and identity that ballers can come play for.  This was woefully lacking in the Riley and Frost years.

I don’t like our OL. It really has established nothing IMO. We don’t put guys in the league and other teams in our geography have taken OL mojo from what used to be a source of pride for us. If frankly pisses me off. We need to develop the OL and get an identity and culture to build upon. Reward White for progress, show Raiola the door. Results matter and we don’t have 3 years to improve incrementally as we are going to get killed in the new BIG if we don’t wake up.

Teams that have flashy skill guys are fun to watch but without defenses and winning the LOS you never reach potential as a team. Many fell for this initially with Riley (Calibraska) and Frost (he got AM and Wandale)…both coaches were disastrous. I’d argue Michigan prior to Harbaugh had this same problem.  Lincoln Riley has had great skill guys and Heisman winners but no defenses at OU and now USC. His star is fading.

It’s trench warfare.  Once you establish the LOS pipeline depth, watch the gravy train of skill guys that want to play for those programs.

    SmashRaid or bust.

I think it also bears out how those flashy Oregon speed and tempo teams under Chip Kelly ran into big physical SEC DL and were stopped.

  5. Al Golden?  If he is on the list a guy like Dan Mullen should be.  IMO White is a tertiary candidate at this time.  He has another good year and then it's time to worry.  The former Mizzou coach, turned UNLV reclamation candidate Odom will be a hot commodity if he can duplicate this season another year.  Their OC does a lot of creative things with the run game.

  6. This subject is beating a dead horse.  I was hoping it would be gone for good.  A Nebraska return to the Big XII is never happening. Those days have come and gone and lots of teams have moved on since then.  The only thing the Big XII has over the Big Ten is more road games to drive to. That's it.  The Big Ten is superior in every other category or metric you want to use.  In fact, if the choice for some reason in a hypothetical where the Big Ten wasn't available and  Nebraska is asked to join the SEC or the Big XII I would choose the SEC.  Big XII is old news like Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather.

Only coach I'm worried about losing is White as he has head coach written all over him with the way the defense has played.

Yep, maybe a healthy raise keeps him around a bit longer but he will get an opportunity somewhere soon, much like Ryan Walters did.

We've lost to worse Colorado teams in recent years, so a loss really shouldn't be that much of a surprise here. While Colorado has depth issues, they have a few players that do have elite talent, and that can't be said about our roster. Also, I think with this being Deion's first home game, their crowd will be more energized than usual, giving them a distinct home-field advantage.

Assuming 50% of the crowd is Colorado fans.  I still expect a lot of red in the stands.

Looking at CU’s s schedule they have to get through back to back with Oregon and USC and then it is very manageable.  I could easily see them in Top 25 by year end 8/9 wins.

USC's defense is crap.  I would put them on upset watch vs. Colorado.  USC might be favored but it could be a close game if both teams are healthy.

Dude is in his mid 20s and didn’t play WR. No idea how anyone can expect him to be a major talent developer at the position.

Yep, he is there to recruit.  If he becomes the Nebraska Tosh Lupoi in that regard, I'd be fine with that.  How is Garrett's video game skills?

Not just on this board is the 10 conference game schedule being discussed.

    10 Game Schedule Rumor

I hope not as that will destroy any opportunity for any out of conference matchup.  However I suppose if it's down to 3 conferences it might not matter much.  Plus SEC needs to go to 9 first.

It's called the hall of fame, not the hall of morality and integrity.  The guy was one of the most talented hitters ever, he needs to be in there. So does Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa. Put an asterisk next to their plaques and let me make my own decision about them while visiting.

Yep, it's even more illogical with Gaylord Perry and Ty Cobb in there.  Plus Barry along with Roger are both HOFers even before the PED talk but they also weren't overly accommodating with the media which I believe is part of ir.  Baseball HOF voters are arrogant, attention seeking old-timers with an axe to grind a lot of the time.  They have been that way for many years.  The no one can be unanimous or he shouldn't get in on the first try b.s. are other examples.

After making the trip up from Missouri for the Bethune-Cookman game, I hate Iowa for their roads.

I like the on ramps for merging on to Iowa interstates that are longer than Nebraska's.  Also Iowa has remodeled their rest areas since the 1980's which makes that experience more pleasant to deal with.  If you travel around the country you realize Nebraska interstate rest areas are a disgrace.  IMO Iowa is a rival due to proximity and shared culture.  If Nebraska could protect three "rivals" I would be for Iowa, UCLA, and Miami if/when they leave the ACC for the Big Ten.

A good discussion on the B1G media deal and a great rant by a national CFB media guy (Steven Godfrey) on the B1G old guard being afraid to play in chilly temps after the sun goes down starts at around the 36 minute mark.

"The MAC would play a night game in the rubble of the Silverdome in January if you asked them to"

That makes me nervous that Big Ten brass would give away playoff home games in the first round because of possible cold weather.  That kind of cowardice needs to be called out.

Taking a closer look at what seems to be the 4 most talked about schools to be "next in line to join the B1G" per NSF (National Science Foundation) chart (link above)

    • U of Washington Grant Funding 2021 ranked #5 (shocked when I saw this)
    • Georgia Institute of Technology is next at #20 (thought this would be higher)

    then comes:

    • Florida State #83 (barely ahead of Nebraska at #87)
    • Oregon #149 (just no, really, just NO)

I'd prefer FSU and Miami.  Florida recruiting ties in a state rapidly growing in population.  I thought the big UW and UO support was from Commish Warren and since he is no longer at the helm in the Big Ten, the push isn't there.

  16. This is a giant nothing burger.  People who are successful in that arena tend to be highly competitive.  I remember all the Larry Bird and Michael Jordan trash talk as a youth.  Heck this week I got a great laugh as Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said that her 6-year old son fell down in a race and was disappointed that her husband didn't medal in the parent's race at her son's school so she took it upon herself to dust every other parent in a race and redeem the Pryce family name.   Trust that they were all competing for second as she wanted the family to have a gold medal.

Looks like SEC still likes the brown bag method of paying players.  Old habits are hard to break

Plus the schools don't sit in population centers. You got Vandy in Nashville and UGA a stone's throw from Atlanta.  SEC is a lot more rural college towns than people see on TV.  They can't hardly wait to show a cornfield when talking about Lincoln or Omaha.  Texas will certainly help that.

If you can poach Micah Strewsberry from PSU you do it in a second.

Trev SHOULD have contacted Chris Beard but I am sure he was scared, which sucks.

Porter Moser is dying to leave OU but is probably trying to get the ND job.

Chris Lowery would be interesting but that could be a hard sell because of the boring ball he plays.

You could get any Oates assistant coach you wanted.

I'd take 5 years of Rick Pitino but he's probably already making plans for St. John's

I’d be happy if they got one of the next 2.  They are 11-3 at home this year.

Yep, winning at Carver-Hawkeye Arena is a tall order.  Look at what Michigan State shot from the field and the FT line and still lost.

One thing we will never know, is how Bo would have fared if he would have had the support that from the administration that Frost did. Lots of different factors and its fun to speculate on what could have been with the ball bouncing the other way.

    sigh

My biggest what if is T.O. doesn't push WCO Shawn Watson and Ted Gilmore on Pelini's staff and he is able to work towards the spread offense he wanted to earlier.  If the '09 offense is even average with an elite #1 ranked defense in several categories, that team likely only loses one game in the regular season to the late Mike Leach, who owned Bo Pelini.  The trajectory and perception of the program changes completely at 11-1.

  21. I still believe if Mizzou was offered a Big Ten invite they would jump ship.  The only SEC member I think that would do so.  I wonder if the SEC or Big Ten will be the first conference to challenge the ACC GOR?

It should have been Ohio State vs. TCU.  Marvin Harrison Jr. was roasting Kelee Ringo.  Luck followed UGA with the injury and FG miss
