As a sunshine pumper myself I disagree with the op on my killing the program. I will never stop having total belief that we can win each and every game. I will support the players. However, don't confuse that with not holding people accountable. That includes the administration the coaches the players AND THE FANS.

I don't agree with some of the play calling. But if you are going to bitch about some plays then don't discount others. The Jan play call was fantastic. Not just because it worked but because it caught them off guard.

My main complaint is about the lack of rotating, especially along the line. Our O-line was exhausted in the 4th, right when we should have been shoving wisky down the field. I get the lack of help on the O-line due to injury but where the underclassmen? Are they really that bad that they could not spell for a play or 2 each series?

If the trollers (if you can call me a pumper then turn about is fair play) I sit on a sacrifice then I vote Banker. His defense obviously doesn't work. It didn't work at OSU and it isn't working g here. We have just traded a porous d - line for a porous d - backfield. Eichorst needs to force MR to get rid of his friend.

anyone think this would be a 2-4 team under Harbaugh?............i seriously doubt it......we got a .500 coach working his last 4 years before retirement, that's all we got....he won't build anything before he leaves.

and after he leaves in 4 years, we have to rebuild again.

Don't see why it would be so awful to fire Riley after 1 year. Admit the bad hire and move on before getting too deep into his system that it will take a full rebuild once he is out.

People fire back and say how bad it would look for Nebraska to fire a coach after 1 year. Or they don't want Nebraska to be "that" school, who is a swinging door at head coaches.

Well folks, Nebraska IS that school. Our recent track record has us firing 2 9 win coaches over the last 15 years.

  2. One thing mathmaticians would also consider. the # 62. Riley's age. Those other coaches were young at the time of their inheritence of said program. I sure as hell hope Riley wins a national title 4 years from now, but suddenly he's 66. Then we start our rebuild after he retires.

  3. In all honesty, what else would you expect him to say? He would look more foolish than his hire if he came out and bashed the team and Riley mid season.

AD's never publically shame their head coaches during the season. He is doing the professional thing and showing public support.

Nothing but a bunch of couch coaches in here. Have any of you tried to lead a team in anything where you know no one and none of which you had influence on? It's hard as hell. I said it in another thread and I'll say it here, to write a coach out after 6 games with 0 players he recruited is foolish. This team was already broken before riley was coach and to expect BIG 10 title contention is ludicrous.

It's an uphill battle to acclimate to a new job and to expect riley to just come in and contend immediately is naive and wishful at best. I hoped for better as well, but I sincerely hope most of you on this board is reasonable enough to realize Riley is not Jesus and he can't turn an average to piss poor team into gold overnight.

Let's wait a year or 2 and see the players he brings in before we all sh#t our pants acting like it's the end of the world.

There are plenty of coaches who have gone into a new program and won immediately, Florida is doing it as we speak.

Riley with his 40+ years of coaching experience, I expected him to be at least on the opposite end of this 2-4 record and be 4-2.

But it is redundant at this point.

Ooo yeah, the Florida team who's had far superior recruiting classes over the past 4 years than us? Great, let's compare apples and oranges and call it even. Definitely an even comparison when one coach inherits a talent rich squad and another inherits a squad with deficiencies across the board with no difference makers.

Well IMO, this Nebraska team has some talent and some playmakers.

Most certainly more talent than a 2-4 record team.

here is the awesome thing. IF Riley brings in a new staff next year, and that is a huge IF because these are more than Riley's coaches, these are his career long friends from Corvallis, but Nebraska wins another 5-7 games next year and the excuses will be..."well his new assistants need time to recruit and time to get gelled with players and Riley". That buys him another year of excuses.

No new staff will be coming in next year.

That is the sad thing. No adjustments will be made, this years debacle is a free pass.

I wish I could go to work for 14 weeks and completely fail and just use the excuse, "I'm still getting use to things".

  8. I dont even care anymore. That is what this staff has done for me. I was so miserable after last weeks game. After all these losses, after all these heart breaking games, ive become numb to it. I have been a die hard Nebraska fan my entire life, it's a HUGE part of my life. And I have realized after this weeks game vs Wisconsin as I sat on the couch and watched yet another game winning drive by the opponent and yet another last second loss, that I need to rethink my ideology of how I look at college football seasons.

I will always want Nebraska to win. GBR. But expectations need to be realized. 7-9 win seasons are great for Nebraska. We are no longer top echelon of the CFB world. Other programs have passed us by, and other historic programs have figured it out with a competent administration to stay at the top.

Until we mix things up at the top, Nebraska is looking at 7-9 win seasons as great accomplishments.

I don't understand, a state with such a devoted fan base, with such a historic football program, continues to fail to just go all in with their football team. I don't know where it went wrong, but I am sure it started with Pedey, but I don't feel NU really puts that much emphasis on the football program. It needs to just go all in on it. Understand Nebraska football is a huge deal to people, it is what makes this program so special. Makes this team so special.

But whatever, we are years from that happening.

Regardless, each week, GO BIG RED! I hope that hope of a win never stops burning each week.

  9. I know it's bad when I just chuckled after this loss. I am numb to these defeats now. They are expected.

I have nothing constructive to post at all. I've postd it all before, the guy needs to go. This is pitiful. I hope these close games aren't just 'hopeful positives' for the future. Losses are losses, and if here at Nebraska we are taking moral victories, then please can I have a juice box and some granola bars to go along with it? This ain't little league.

  10.

Those banners attracted the 2* recruits Riley is targeting.

DPE was a 2 star... And Riley isn't recruiting any.

According to Rivals Nebraska has the #39 recruiting class..

There isn't many open spots left on this '16 class, so I don't see a dramatic jump in recruiting. Most of our recruits are 3* and I don't see any top level talent recruit we are targeting. You're right in the fact Riley isn't recruiting many 2*, but we have one commit who is a 2*. But I think we can both agree star gazing is somewhat silly.

Basically MR is going after the same kids he went after at OSU.

We are getting absolutely owned on the recruiting trail.

  11. I would imagine if this is true. Riley and staff should just opnely address it, and let it be known if any player does indeed have a problem to speak with them privately. Talk it out if possible, if you cant talk it out and said player becomse a toxin to the locker room you send the player on their way and wish them the best of luck.

These are young adults, not kids. Adults in college who will be in the real world within a matter of years and some within a matter of months.

  12. Well, I live in Oregon and I have someone very close who was close to the Oregon State program. I know one person who is actually good friends with Riley as they are boosters of the OSU program, they aren't super close friends, but I have not spoken to them since this debacle has unraveled.

I have a very close family friends who are huge Beaver fans, and had spoken to the Riley staff in Corvallis, before, mainly because the person I know is a local HS football coach and has met Riley on numerous occasions.

Anyways, the later said going into the season that this staff was so excited because of how much talent and depth was on this roster. Specifically Mark Banker who said something along the lines that at Oregon State they may have had 2-3 studs on the D-Line and that was it, no depth. He mentioned he was excited at Nebraska because you had studs not only on the entire starting line, but on the bench creating great depth.

I got excited hearing this as I thought maybe this staff with their experience will do amazing things with talent and depth. So far they have greatly disappointed me.

Take it for what it is worth, I know on the internet, especially when things start to turn downhill everyone and anyone can post they know someone who knows someone.

Don't forget he also won the Heroe's Trophy last year. But he did lose out on the Bits of Broken Chair Trophy and the Freedom-to-run-for-408-yards-Trophy.

Still more trophies than the current coach has won at this level.

If the previous 7 years are a failure, can't wait to see how this year gets excused.

Or, and I'm just spitballing here, you could root for our team to be successful in this, the first year of our new coach.

We are all rooting for the team to be successful. However it's upsetting seeing a coaching staff with supposedly unmatched coaching experience completely lose a game on their own. I could understand the BYU loss, I could understand the Miami loss but that Illinois loss is completely inexcusable. The coaches went out of their way to make that game as difficult as possible to win, good coaches don't do that and we deserve better.

This I agree with. The Illinois loss falls directly on Riley & Co. At the same time Riley & Co deserve a chance to bring in their guys & see how things shake out, but my guess is games like this will tighten up his leash a little. Just think it could be worse. We could be Texas.

If Riley was about 10 years younger I would gladly accept patience and waiting for him to bring in his guys.

But with the 40+ years of coaching experience, plus his time is already ticking I figured bringing Riley in would be winning now. I understand a 8-9 win first year, but then I expected us to make strides of conference titles the years after.

Now, its completely rebuilding year 1, hopefully improve to 8-9 wins year 2, and then suddenly Rile is 64 years old.....And we start looking to rebuild with a new coach again.

This hire has set us back at least 8 years.

Again, I'd be all for Riley if he used his so called unmatched experience and won immediately, got us to the top and the next coach comes in and keeps us there or even improves.

But we took a step back, and now looking at the near future, we are years away from the rebuild we actually need.
