  1. I think our defense will keep us in the game the question is CAN they do it for 4 quarters? This is a game where I think OU is really going to test Martinez. They will use Cover 0, Cover 1, Cover 2 and press coverage. They will dare him to make throws into tight coverage.

No turnovers, no dumb penalties, and if we somehow can click on special teams and get a returner and our kicker is on point, we have a punchers chance. We could win 24-21.

The realist in me sees us getting beat by 17-24 points, 38-17 or 45-21.

  2. Martinez improved his throws on the left side of the field. He still struggles on the short game. Does anyone help him with his damn footwork?!

We don’t have a running back. Held has no idea what he is doing there. It seems like he’s just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

I liked the I-Formation at goal line and Speed Option plays however, I think these are just little wrinkles TBH and won’t become a normal thing but you never know.

The offensive line can’t block at the second level. Toure is going to have a good year along with Oliver Martin, I think. Our defense played with a bend but don’t break scheme and it worked but the 4.1 ypc allowed is alarming to me.

You can complain about a lack of a pass rush but it’s extremely hard to get to the quarterback when the balls out of his hand in 2 seconds. I think in that case, we could lean on man coverage a little bit more.

Our field goal unit is atrocious. Maybe it was all mental, maybe the wind had a factor to it. Our kick coverage on punt and kickoff is solid but at this point, we need to have a return man on punts. That could provide a swing later in the year or come back to bite us.

Even a young line should hold-up better than what we've seen considering the underwhelming competition.  Pass-blocking sucks too,  Buffalo got consistent pressure on AM without blitzing.

I agree. Take away Martinez’ rushing stats and our RB’s ypc ain’t gonna cut it against bigger opponents especially the B1G. I think they only had like 103 yards between the 20 different backs Held uses.

Pretty sure those things are not mutually exclusive.  The dropped the capacity by some a few years ago.  I'm kind of surprised they haven't kept whittling away at it.  Or maybe they have and just haven't announced it.

It’s a great stadium don’t get me wrong the environment pays for itself but compared to other venues, we could use an overhaul in seating. We are way past time to reward all the blue collared hard working Nebraskan’s that comes and pay good money to come to these games every year, ya know? And it’s not just people from Omaha/Lincoln.

As for the field and uniforms, most people treat it sacred but we’re ok with forgetting 100+ year old rivalries leaving the Big 12. With NIL, we definitely need to compete with the bigger schools. I wouldn’t mind a revamped Huskers font and N logo along with a full uniform redesign. Perhaps the color black could be incorporated into an official home/away uniform?

Why end something just because of a few whiney people?

There’s some higher ups that I’ve heard who wouldn’t be upset if the sellout streak ended. It would give us a great excuse to work on some restorations. Dropping capacity to 78k or so as long as a majority of the stadium seating was upgraded. I think this is inevitable with or without losing the sellout streak. I’m not pining for it to end. The streak should continue but eventually you gotta upgrade the old stadium.

  6. The biggest issue to me plaguing not just our offense but the entire team is the linemen. For decades, we had linemen grazing every award watchlist every year. We have to get back to being a pipeline, a football factory if you will for linemen.

When you build that type of foundation, you can plug in 3 star recruits at skill positions who the OL/DL will make them look like world beaters. You can be consistent and even compete yearly for conference titles (see Wisconsin.)

I think since 2004, our football program has kind of been a little too ambitious and impatient by focusing more on building from the top down starting at skill positions. That’s a huge mistake, IMO. Gotta have strong line play or nothing else matters. You can’t skate by with poor results no matter who or what star leveled recruit is at QB/RB/WR/LB/DB’s.

2006, 2009, 2010, 2012 we competed for conference titles. In those seasons, we had stellar offensive and defensive lines that could compete. This is the problem with our entire program. That identity, that spirit we carried for years is gone. Imagine what would’ve been from 2018-2020 had we recruited and developed guys that could make the two deep at Wisconsin, OSU, PSU, Michigan.

Chris Petersen is 56 years old and maintained a leadership role with Washington. Sounds like a fully retired man to me.

He resigned due to being stressed out at Washington. The grueling hours of a HC. Not sure why people think he’d be quick to come to this fish bowl.

"Who do we hire?"  No one.  We will stand pat for at least two [2] more years.  It will be next year where the fan base will give up on trying to keep the sellout streak going and that will be the best way to communicate that winning 4-5 games the way we have won't cut it.

The NCAA investigation is a way out of Frost's contract (technically and legally.) I think if he continues to trend downward and we have another losing season, we absolutely cannot afford to keep him for another year. There is cause to terminate his contract. Either way we slice it -- it could become an ugly divorce. Sadly, I think he's gonna be forced to make wholesale staff changes at the end of the year or else.

    I have to completely disagree.

You instantly give up the possession you just had and then you're kicking off from your own 20 instead of your 35...and they get two points.

Yeah once we started losing the position battle it began to snowball from there. Not sure who the hell coached Cam to drop back that far and field a punt from our own end zone

A little unrelated but, not so much — our offensive line was really a surprise for me to get concerned. I thought they’d be a lot better even in game 1 didn’t expect it to be so bad. Terrible coaching. Frost either is going to get fired married to this staff and his QB or he’s gonna have to make tough choices.

IMO NONE of the offensive assistants have done a good job. Austin hasn’t produced a good OL, Held never has a stable of running backs, our receivers aren’t that talented and our quarterback play has been lackluster through 4 years. We keep getting worse each year.

There’s literally no bright spot on offense.

Oddly, I believe if the OL/DL stick out their time in Lincoln that Frost is establishing a great run for success starting with the 2023 season, just need to fit the skill position pieces.

My current mood doesn’t believe he’ll get/deserve the chance though.

This year won’t be a mulligan like last year. It sucks I was all behind him pulling for people to give Frost a chance I’ll admit it I’m damn wrong on that. He’s gotta go quickly. We damn near lost the sellout streak because people are apathetic towards the football program. It would be eerily ironic if one of our own was responsible for killing the sellout streak. I’m going to the Buffalo game here’s hoping the streak continues.

The more I look into Matt Entz the more I like him. He is just what the program needs. Two tights power run formations. Nebraskans identify with power. He’s 23-3 at NDSU. Someone will get em. I think home run hire is out of the question. Unless it’s Matt Campbell. Either way, nobody big is going to want to come here no matter how much money offered. I think in 03 we offered Urban Meyer (then the Utah coach) more money than Florida and he left for UF.

It feels like we were all duped by Scott he has been an atrocious coach up to this point. I’m one who is surprised by that. I expected a much different approach but he’s turned out to be extremely lazy and incompetent. “No music during practice this week!” Like that’s going to change your culture
