I'm hoping he can persuade Chinander of a few things, like having the defense BE there instead of giving up enough yards/points to lose so many winnable games.
I wouldn’t be against involving more grad assistants and analysts to be involved. I don’t see any other assistants being fired, but I would not be the least bit surprised. Chinander has worn out his stay much more than his former boss.- 1

Life comes at you fast.
Judging by his demeanor, I recant my last statement lol. I don’t think he will address the media. Maybe just a general PR statement or something ending with Go Big Red. -

Obviously there’s a lot of posts about Frost being fired and not enough discussion about Mickey being named interim. The first black HC at DONU! This is a historic day for the football program. I for one am extremely excited to see what he can do. He’s an excellent recruiter, something this program needs. I think we will see the players play hard for him. He’s a players coach. If he’s capable of taking us to a bowl, I think he’s made a case to at least remain on staff with the next HC ala Shawn Watson-Pelini. What do you guys think?

Color me blind but this feels exactly like the Mike Riley firing. Like Riley, Frost fired all his assistants on one side of the ball. Many called for MR to be fired early in his final season but there was no point as SF was patiently waiting. I do NOT think Trev has anyone lined up right now.
I do think this is a statement to let the rest of the country know that we have a job opening. It does give us an advantage as far as negotiating goes. This allows Trev ample time to contact HC’s agents. He can’t talk to them directly but at least he can ask: Would you be interested?

I don't watch a lot of "we just fired our coach" press conferences, but I think the Riley firing was the first time I've even heard about the former coach being there for their termination presser.
I just don’t want anymore unnecessary curses, lol. -

There's a reason why he chose to pull the trigger now, and my guess is that his target is currently not coaching and he's trying to get a deal done quickly. Meyer will be in town next weekend... perhaps an audition of sorts?
I think we will get some answers today during the press conference. Although I expect Trev’s answers with the media will be very business like. He won’t delve into a search right now, but I do think he will make it known what qualities he’s looking for in a HC. I also think he will go on record as to giving Mickey this opportunity to turn things around. I don’t expect this press conference to go beyond 30 min.I do think it would be wise to allow Scott an opportunity to thank everyone. He deserves as much. I don’t see Trev as the kind of guy to not allow this.

What a waste of a season.
It hurts right now. The reality of it is we can still have a winning season. It’s going to take everything we’ve got. We’re going to find out real quick over the next two weeks what we’ve got with Mickey. -

Trev Alberts is likely in damage control mode for his own job.
Yep. This is something only people in a leadership position could truly understand.- 1

I feel horrible for Frost. It’s never fun to hear this kind of news. However, this is the nature of the beast. It’s a results driven business. I’m excited to see what Mickey can do. If the players play hard for him, run through a wall for him. He could do what SF couldn’t— produce a winning season.

how does that even happen. And all his BS about needing time, build the culture, get his kids....They went 3-9 last year and just kicked the sh!t out of us. In year 1. Cristobal 2-0 year 1.....
Just an overrated coach. Not a big enough sample size when hired. Brought all his buddies to NU. Ironic defense cost the jobs of Callahan, Riley, and Scott Frost. -

Oklahoma is Frost’s last game as head coach.
I think you’re right. The move will be made to terminate him Oct 1 and MJ will immediately be inserted as the interim for the Indiana game. Then we just let it ride. If he gets us to a bowl, then you’ve got to consider him as either HC material or at least make a deal with the new HC to keep him on board.- 1

seriously? To a first year HC with an OC he's never worked with and the offensive players were running the triple option last year IIRC....
Yep it’s the most ever we’ve allowed at home. SF getting out coached again. October 1st can’t get here soon enough. We’ve seen enough as well. -

I think they went north of 600 total yards....
Pretty sure I heard it’s the most yards allowed at home ever. -
Gifford is over rated. He is a liability on defense. As long as he’s on the field, he’s gonna get burned Our linebackers can’t cover and can’t tackle well. To run a 3-4 you need world beaters at DT. We have zero pass rush. No sacks. Almost non existent TFLs. We forced ONE PUNT.
Get rid of Chin, Ruud, Dawson.

Let’s just go get Jason Brown for a small amount. Guarantee he would make our program tough again lol.

It’ll be just like North Dakota. We’ll struggle. We’ll have mistakes, turn the ball over once or thrice. They’ll give us a scare. 34-27 NEB.

Its warm and even if he goes 2-2 then he certainly isn't going to be fired after that game.
No, we’re all well aware of each day that follows October 1st.- 1

We will beat GA Southern. That Oklahoma game might give the Huskers the believe that they can win bc they definitely will be the underdog's. So let's just say we are 2-2 after the Oklahoma game. SF seat won't be scorching hot imho. Don
You are delusional if you think his seat isn’t hot right now, lol. Or if it isn’t at 2-2.- 1

If you’ve ever had a girlfriend that you had to “let down gently”, that’s exactly what Trev is doing to SF. Because he’s a native and played for us. We’re giving him that 5 year mark that Bill Moos famously said “Ask me how he’s doing in year 5” sort of thing. Well, here we are. It hasn’t worked out. So unless we somehow beat GA Southern and upset Oklahoma, Frost’s seat will remain scorching hot.

It is interesting that we are now hoping for 8-9 win seasons when we had that with Bo and we could not wait to get rid of the guy. I guess after two plus decades of disappointing dive into oblivion, we are willing to settle for 8 win seasons. Thanks Frost, you really lowered the bar in Lincoln and were able to break our spirits. That is definitely an accomplishment!
-
We better hope Florida State has a great year and we offer Deion Sanders $10-$12 mil a year. He would instantly get the Jimmie’s and Joe’s in Lincoln. There is no doubt about that. But I think he’ll be able to develop them, too. He could be the kind of energetic coach DONU needs. He’s high risk, high reward. You want long term? Keep Frost. Short term? Go with Urban Meyer.
If the next coach can get 8-9 wins a year, some double digit wins every so often, he’ll be idolized in Nebraska. If we want a great coach we’re gonna have to pony up the cash.
-
Urban Meyer would be a slam dunk hire. I think the challenge of bringing back a blue blood CFB team like Nebraska is what would ultimately lure him here. We have a lot to offer. My own personal opinion is I realistically don’t see him coming here. I honestly don’t think he could handle the pressure.

The problem I have with recruiting rankings is usually the 4 star guys we target are players who are not on the recruiting board of most P5 schools. Clemson has consistently finished in the top 15 recruiting from 2008 to present. Most of their national championship teams were with high 4 star players targeted by every big named school you can think of.
We need better Jimmy and Joes and also an identity. Run the ball better, stop the run better. Even Bo knew this. I have no idea why Frost and his staff can’t grasp the idea. Until we get back to our roots of having a better OL and DL than our West foes, we’re going to continue to experience 3-5 win seasons.

If that same defense vs. GS shows up against OU we might end up allowing more yards and 60+ points. Sadly, OU is too talented on defense to give up 42+ to our offense. With that said, I think MJ will have a game plan to give OU a run.
