I'll add an another reason: AM is not worried about receiving unguided missiles from his center. He can focus more on pre-snap reads.

True. Based on AM’s pocket presence he is definitely trusting the OL more. That is a good sign. Now if they could just open up a few more holes for the running backs…

Different coaching staff now, and Tucker seems to have Frost's number.

I mean he’s 0-1 against Tucker so I’ll give Frost the benefit of the doubt.  Their team runs the ball well. We’re going to have to get in the backfield and make some tackles if we’re going to win this game. We can’t make the same ST and O mistakes again. Just can’t happen. MSU will eat the clock and ram it down our throats. And this is why I’ve been pining for a few run stoppers to step up (if we have any.)

Listening to the pod cast that Nick Bahe and Bo Ruud did on the game, it was explained that the defensive game plan for this game was to keep everything in front of them.  Do NOT give up the big play.  Make them march down the field and hopefully make a mistake.  This offense is one of the most explosive offenses in the country and they live off of big plays.  The defensive scheme for this game worked.

And....I'm not sure why you think we need a "run stopper".  Our defense has been pretty good against the run.

A few things stand out to me as to why:

    1.) 81st against the run

    2.) 65th in TFL’s

    3.) 92nd 3rd down defense

4.) 106th in giving up first downs

    5.) 87th red zone defense

Oh, and we play in the B1G. That’s why we need a stout run stopper on the DL and somebody at LB. We don’t really have anybody that is a difference maker at those spots against the run.

  4. We’re one elite pass rusher away and run stopper away from becoming a dangerous defense otherwise we are beatable inside the tackles and underneath and throws to the outside. Maybe they’re coached not to give up the big play over the top.

Seems like most big plays we give up on defense are communication errors or fundamental issues (tackling, over pursuing.) A couple blitzes at Rattler were complete whiffs by the defense leaving a receiver open. Those blitzes gotta get there fast. However, I love their aggression and the way we fly to the football. I think that will continue to improve each week.

Sucks that Ervin got hurt. Even though Rahmir had the hot hand and was getting more touches you could see Gabe finding holes and fighting through for yardage in this one.

Could have really used him for this upcoming game.

I would’ve loved an Ervin/Rahmir 1-2 punch combo. Missing him is going to suck. Hopefully we’ve got another power back to “step” up and make a difference.

The idea of getting into a 3 point stance and just asserting some will on teams would go a long long way to getting these boys some confidence and learn how to strong arm opponents.

I like our scheme, but man…sometimes you have to be able to get low in a stance and crack some skulls. Show some Power and knock some heads around.

    Coaching, coaching, coaching.

MSU started out the gate hot. Good for them.

Last year Iowa started out the gate awful.  We know what eventually happened.

Miami,Fla is really bad.  Nowhere near Oklahoma competition. Nowhere near the same playing level as the Sooners.

I saw more out of NU vs OU to tell me the Huskers are ready to go.

No disrespect to Sparty, and an evening game...But the Huskers will leave with a win.  Close, back and forth, doesn't matter.

I wouldn’t underestimate MSU. They’re very well coached and play sound fundamentally. They don’t make a lot of mistakes. We’re gonna have to pull out all the stops from here on out to put our guys in a position to win.

  8. Just focus on the next opponent. We can’t keep setting bars and expect to meet them. One game at a time. Everything else takes care of itself. Nothing matters if you’re not totally prepared for what’s right in front of you.

  9. I learned Martinez really improved his pocket presence. He stayed in it and made some real tough throws. I like that he didn’t panic too much but when he did, the pocket was already collapsing and it was too late to escape. He’s gotta improve a little on his awareness of the pocket. I think he’ll continue to do that throughout the season.

can't agree more.  The RB carousel is ridiculous.  4 games in and still do not have a starter.  After talking in fall they were going to/needed to find that one guy.....My a$$

I agree and I can see why so many players leave our program. Frost and his staff are incapable of identifying true talent and who to start in certain areas. Some players are out there that just completely baffle me. Yet he sticks with them. Does anyone really think Saban/Meyer/name whatever GOAT coach you want to name would stick with a player that’s not cutting it on the field?

Frost has to get over his own ego and beliefs. Sometimes you’ve gotta roll the dice on players. That’s how you find out who the great ones are. Saban threw Tua in a CFB playoff final out of no where and won a f#&%ing natty!!!!

  11. I think Frost needs to switch around his staff. His RB coach isn’t getting it done. His OL coach is a bust and his QB coach isn’t getting the job done. He needs to revamp his entire offensive staff and maybe even his scheme. Keep defense working. The offense does nothing to help them out. I’m a fan of a power run offense. You can sprinkle in a dual threat and some option plays.

Nobody runs I-Formation as a staple anymore so teams struggle to defend it. Imagine if we went back to it. Bring back the fullback!

I thought it was pretty cool for the 50th Anniversary, it made sense.  Maybe they should have came out with the 71 style Jersey's as well that, would've been pretty cool to match!

With that said: I can't stand the Gray Face-Masks nor the Stripes Full-Time.  I don't even like Gray Face-Masks for other teams!  Just yuck & throws the whole color scheme off in my opinion unless it's a color of the team.  The Stripes are just too reminiscent of Wisconsin, Alabama and Oklahoma.  The Stripe-less pants are a way cleaner look and glad we brought them back when Frost was hired.

I'm good with one Alternative per year of course, or maybe rotating in some other things as the year goes on, or something for a special game or something.  Thought the NU Helmet against Buffalo was nice. The Memorial Throwbacks from 2018 were cool too!  Some of the Blackshirt Alts has been okay.  I think Red Stripes on All-Whites is a nice look.

However, I did love the Black Shoes we had yesterday.  They just make the team look tougher.  Wish we'd wear them full-time!

If I had it my way I'd just trout out the 2001 Uniform for a majority of the games:

    Red Jersey
Solid White Pants - No Stripes
    Tall Red Socks
    Black Shoes

    White Jersey
Solid Red Pants - No Stripes
    Tall White Socks
    Black Shoes

This is the 2000/2001 design right? Yeah, those were cool and classic looking. Bring that back with the old cream helmets. I think everyone wore that design vs Michigan State in 2018 and I thought it looked awesome.

I like the stripes. Admittedly, in part because I know it bothers some fans.

The thing that bothers me — is the helmets. I’ve noticed they slowly phased out the original cream helmet design after the Callahan era ended. I notice it especially under certain lighting conditions. Like when we came out the tunnel @ OU you could tell right away they went back to the original cream classic helmets. That should’ve never changed. Now it’s just plain white. I get it with the stripes on pants, we don’t want to look like Wisconsin, etc. maybe it’s time for an overhaul altogether but NOT what they had in mind back in 2002!  :flush

  14. Man I loved those uniforms we wore against OU. I know it was a tribute to the game of the century but I sure do love the striped pants and gray face masks. Anyone else also notice the helmets were a darker cream again? I want the OG helmets again! Who else loved the uniforms?! That is all. GBR!
