  1. They could probably take us to a Pelini-level, but not further. Obviously people would take that right now, but is that what we want long-term?

I'm not against the firing of coaches, but I'd never do it without having a replacement in mind. That's the mistake this program keeps making.

It's not who they fired, it's who they hired.

    2004 we settled for leftovers

2007 we rolled the dice and took a gamble

2014 we make a retirement home for ex-Corvallis coaches

I'm not going to read through multiple paragraphs of a post. We hired a career .500 coach. This is the result. Lets call a spade a spade. Michigan and Florida hired proven coaches who have won and did big things. Harbaugh turned Stanford around, took the 49ers to a SB. McElwain completely turned around CSU. Quick, give me a time Riley and his buddies did something great that stands out on his resume.

    Beat #1 USC.

Wow was that when Oregon State won the Pac-10? And that happened nearly a decade ago before he became a washout. They won a few division titles and beat Oregon a lot too.

  4. The problem is talent and scheme, but not in the secondary. It is art LB. We are and have been terrible at LB and that puts a lot of pressure on the DBs and DL.

Edit: not completely secondary is what I am saying

Today, I would disagree. The LB's were counted on a lot today and more often than not, they made clutch plays. Our secondary is all scheme at this point IMO. We HAVE talent back there but its being driven into the ground by an incompetent coach. I have no idea how the secondary coach is still employed.

  5. The OP makes valid points. I was furious as to why we kept passing on first down as well. At one point WI got penalized and it was 1st and 5 and we just kept tossing it around like a hot potato... what the heck? And when you're shuffling running backs in and out of the game like they're on an ice hockey shift, you've got problems. We have no identity to hang our hats on, nothing but predictable mistakes.

  6. Some of you screaming for the coaching staff to be fired must think it's 1998 or something. Nebraska is not going to get one of these so called big name coaches to come here no matter what the price. So our record has taken a step backwards from last year. But I sure enjoy watching the games this year instead of waiting for our coach to blow up on the sideline and scream and berate anyone he can find. Sometimes the only way to go up is to go down first. Let us not forget we lost a rb from last years team that masked a ton of offensive problems. Since playing in the rose bowl our greatest accomplishment is losing in conference championship games. No one remembers the losers of these games. Some of you need to face reality that Saban, Meyer or whomever you think is a slam dunk. They aren't coming here. Perhaps Riley is the best we could get. Stew on that one for a bit.

Money talks. Go ask how Michigan is doing. How about Florida? Oh wait, just flip the channel and see for yourself!

  7. Until we hire a BIG NAME proven coach and recruiter -- not some young unproven up-and-comer or unknown commodity -- we will remain languishing in mediocrity.

Bama and Michigan have provided the blueprint/formula to follow; we just have to do it. Chip Kelly, Mark Richt, Gary Patterson, Jim Tressel...

I think you're related to me lol. Your posts lately are exactly what I am thinking. We've got to get a proven successful leader here. We caught lightning in a bottle twice with our predecessors. The program can still be saved but MR is not the man we need.

  8. I don't think the players are buying into the coaches and neither are the fans so... the boosters are next, right? Maybe this time we can hire a firm/search committee and get a proven HC to resuscitate a dying program.

  9. Tell Red Reign I said hello. Whatever you do, don't disagree w/ him or question his judgment in any way or he'll have you banned. He is the epitome of the word "douche"

    Yup +1

  10.

I would rather be 5-1 coming off a 40 point loss to wisconsin than 2-4.

made a thread on this very point earlier. Mods deleted it because it didn't fit their give Riley another chance narrative. Oh well peace out huskerboard. Huskermaxdotcom here I come!

Bye bye. Waste of money, I tell you. This place is much more friendlier.

None of those coaches inherited a team that had nine wins the previous year. None of those coaches had career 500 records

And all of the coaches were in recruiting hot beds and already stacked. Nebraska is not.

  12. I don't buy Riley's message about JS only doing kick returns. Like he said himself, it really doesn't make sense to burn his red shirt. He kind of tip-toed around the question from the media. I have a feeling JS is going to be in the in the backfield on Saturday along with Ozigbo so we have that 1-2 punch they've been looking for.

  13. I am NOT in the dumps. I knew this was going to be a rough season. I said 7 wins in the prediction thread. I had BYU and Illinois in the W column. I am still glad ragenose is gone and I still think MR can deliver a solid product. Watching Newby run while Wilbon rides the pine is the most frustrating aspect for me right now... He must have a plan because even a HS coach couldn't be that blind.

Ozigbo is likely going to take the job. He has the prototypical size Riley wants at running back.

  14. That had more to do with their Oline pushing us around like little girls than anything else.

You're skeptical, I can understand that but would you rather be in the dumps like most every other fan OR support your team and believe they can accomplish a 7-0 run? I choose winning. And I think this fan base will be rejuvenated after Saturday.
