If I understand your point, you want Rhule to ignore a 5 star quarterback who wanted to visit so he doesn't hurt some coach's feelings from Norfolk?

Anyone not related to Kaelin 100% is happy and understands trying to land the top recruit in the country at the most important position.

I understand the reasoning.  And some latitude for the first full recruiting class.

But not all that great of a look to be cutting several guys, especially right before signing day.

I agree, but at the same time I think we are all adjusting to the new way of college football. It used to be universities would stand by their commits and commits would stand by their university. But now with NIL and transfer portal. The kids are looking out for themselves and switching teams left and right. So honestly the schools need to put their interests first just like the kids are. In this instance raiola opens tons of doors to higher profile kids who can flip our program faster so we probably would be wise to keep some spots open.

not saying I like the cutthroat mentality but it’s the direction it’s going and the big dogs play that way so if we want to get back to the top play the game

    I don't think that's the case here.

At Georgia, the expectation would be to compete for playoff spots and getting to the National Championship. With the way they recruit, anything that isn't at least qualifying for a 12 team playoff is a massive failure. I think Georgia fans would expect to win at least 1 playoff game each year.

At Nebraska, the expectations aren't even in the same stratosphere. The expectations here would be getting to bowl games early in his career, with the hope that Nebraska qualifies for a big time bowl game (NY6 or equivalent) once in his career. Even if Nebraska doesn't do that, which I don't think they currently can, guiding the program to a few 8-4 or 9-3 records would be a huge.

Nebraska with a 10-2 season goes to the playoff in my opinion

He's not gonna announce he's de-committing until hes locked in somewhere else. This isnt like the summer when he still had 8 months to make a decision.

Plus I highly doubt he is going to say something negative about Georgia as the reason. Not sure why some think he needs to explain why. Who cares why

Rb is the least of my worries for the future teams.  How many Rbs can you say they were good in spite of their offensive line and not because of it?   We need OL and then will get the RBs

At the end of the day we need the best possible talent at all positions. So losing a great player is bad unless we can recruit another kid as talented. Yes we need OL. s#!t we need RB, WR and a damn QB too

So your complaint is that the offensive line coach is bad, but you can't name one realistic replacement option that would better? I'd suggest we pump the brakes on calling for people to be fired for now as we're trending in the right direction. Raiola has helped in adding some young talent in his year and a half on the staff(s) and if he's able to help reel in Brix, that would be quite the snag. We need to give him and the rest of the staff time to put it all together.

FWIW, we're 17th in the country in rushing offense at 200.5 ypg and doing so without two of three upperclassmen running backs, three starting receivers, and a mobile QB. If we maintain that number, we should remain in the top 20 of rushing offenses in the country which would be our best finish since 2014. It's not a world-beating sign of improvement, but it is certainly a step in the right direction in one area at least.

Yeah I think for 1/2 way through year 1 and we have a respectable defense and a decent rushing attack is the closest we have had to an identity for quite a few years.

Maybe it is a sign we stick with the old instead of adapting to the new. Adidas is a sign of old, Nike is always adapting, adidas does the same old boring s#!t. We have had head coaches that were fine, but there are always holes in the quality of assistants. They hire friends instead of the best out there. FWIW People would laugh at you if you wore adidas gear with Jordan’s or Dunks outside of the middle of the country. Whole different world where the best recruits live.

To be honest I think adidas gear is more comfortable and higher quality in clothing, casual shoes and athletic shoes/equipment. I think people in Nebraska and the middle of the country have their s#!t together better than most of the wackos on the east and west coast. So I could care less if some tool in California laughs at my adidas shoes.

Kids don’t choose their school based on Nike. Sorry but they don’t. I don’t know who created that dips#!t argument. Probably Nike. Oh under armour shoes are total dogs#!t.

Kids choose their school based on playing time, current roster quality, current recruiting success and other committed players, current success on the field, facilities, how well the coaches sell their vision and who they are as a person. If there are 15 things kids care about Nike logo on the jersey is about the last item. Georgia and Alabama success has nothing to do with apparel.

The people of Nebraska need to stand up and say enough is enough. Spend the money or lose the fan base.

Doesn’t Rhule have a contract for like $9 mill per year? We bought about as big a name in the off-season money could buy not named urban Meyer. Now will he pan out idk. But it was a proven college coach who was just in the NFL so you can’t act like we hired mike Riley again

  9. I actually could see the big 10 and sec adding all the relevant programs over the next 10 years. Those 2 conferences break away as the top division of football. Then it is like the nfl format. The big 10 being the nfc and the sec being the afc. Creating multiple smaller divisions in each conference and those division winners get in the playoffs

  10. I would rather see the BIG 10 think about their next additions be southern schools. I loved the idea of Clemson and Florida State. Pickup a school in Florida and Texas. We need to look at it from a competitive standpoint and not just TV dollars. If we don’t and the SEC owns the southern recruiting the big 10 is not going to be able to keep up. North VS South.

Heck the way it is shaping up is big 10 with be NFC and sec the AFC going to nfl format

Do you get the feeling that our recruiting class is extremely undervalued or are ok where the guys are ranked right now?

I get the feeling all the guys we have committed to date are more prone to get a bump in the ratings than getting dropped down. So probably a bit undervalued. Some guys could have a good fall season and we might end up with close to 10 4 stars

I think the takes on the far end of the spectrum are off the mark yes, but I think the general consensus is we could be getting a more highly rated set of prospects to commit.  I fully support the developmental prospects, the under the radar etc for a certain number of each class, but the question is how many is too many.  We are still Nebraska and can get a certain number of higher rated kids interested regardless if we have sucked or not.   We need a developer of talent, but we do need a mix of more proven talent to go with under the radar guys.   I don't know who is asking for championship caliber today, but simply questioning whether this is even good enough for the foundation to build as you say.

Plus I think some had hoped his success at previous stops in college and having just been in the NFL would have elevated recruiting above what Frost was doing. Whether he has played a game here or not. But at the end of the day we win games and recruiting gets easier

The talent level of this recruiting class is concerning.

Perhaps Nebraska plans on supplementing with transfer Portal talent from schools with hoards of talent. I mean this in a way that it's part of their long term recruiting strategy.

I think the staff has a formula for the type of athlete they like. I would bet the types of kids we are bringing in are similar to what he brought in at Baylor and they were very good under Rhule. As soon as the Ws start to pile up the recruiting will take off for what you want to see.

Rumor is he has already filmed his commit video with Matt Stafford and is just waiting for the right time to drop it.

I hope he makes a transfer video with Tommie Frazier in 2 years

I think he's tried, we had Rouse until OU went all in with the NIL deal. OL is just hard to address in the portal, fewer guys in there and everyone wants them. I agree Rhule hasn't succeeded, but it's hard to knock him for it because I think he tried. I do also think there's some solid talent here if he can unlock it, but I think upgrading was a priority and we just struck out.

I’m sure the narrative changes if we end up landing the #1 OT in the country
