Honas was likely 4th on the depth chart at ILB heading into Spring. He’s walking on somewhere he has a better chance to play/start.

Also Manhattan is closer to Wichita than Lincoln. I really hoped Honas would be a big time player at Nebraska but that hasn't been the case. He has a better shot at KSU

I won't sugar coat it, We suck.  4 losing seasons with each worse than the season before.  So we were close in 2021.  But not where it matters.  In the W/L column.  Frost made needed changes (2 years late IMO), got a good staff put together and has cobbled together a decent class for sure.  Hope this season it clicks and we can go bowling and Frost uses this season to start a long history ending in the greatest coach in NU history.

I really worry that like you said Frost made the changes too late, and 2022 will be his last year. He'll go coach somewhere else and end up coaching at the P5 level again after a few years. However he'll take the lessons he learned here and end up being a very good coach somewhere else and Nebraska will be stuck in the same rut it's been the last several years

Great pickup. Let’s get some OL now post spring. I’ll feel a lot more confident about that after.

Maybe the coaches haven't pursued OL very hard because 1. Riola wants to see what he is working with and 2. Frost and the other coaches think that there is a lot more talent/ability then what we fans think

Wonder how he feels about Vegas summers?  lol..

Probably different then if Urban Meyer would have wound up as the Raiders coach! Lord knows what kind of establishments he would have been recorded in!

  5. I think the QB run game will still be a part of the offense, but the designed QB runs called 10+ times a game are a thing of the past. We'll see the option and QB draw sprinkled in on occasion, but the straight QB dive or off tackle type plays will be called considerably less

We were ahead in the game, no doubt.  However, this is changing so fast I'm not sure anyone can really keep track.  Money is coming from a lot of directions at every big school so keeping score is almost impossible.  I do think our transfer success over the past weekend is an indication we are remaining competitive with other top schools.  We don't sign the guys we have if we weren't winning some bids.

You have to be right. There is no way we're not winning bids. Players aren't coming to Nebraska right now based on the recent lack of success the program has had.

I think it's pretty much try everyone who could play there, and settle on who fits best. If Teddy's back some people have been floating Corcoran, and then really any of the interior guys could do it. The switch to Center went really well for Farmer a few years ago, and Matt Farniok is on an NFL roster as a Center. Developing guys there is not as hard as we've made it look, I think Austin just never bothered developing a backup because Cam was good and any potential backups were more likely to be needed at G/T.

Personally I like the sounds of Teddy at LT and Corcoran at C, but my guess is Nouili or Hixson. I think Lutovsky, Williams (transfer from Northern Colorado), and the losers of the Tackle battles are probably too big to be Centers and we'll find 2 Guards out of that group. Hixson has already played some Center, and Nouili was a pleasant surprise -for the most part.

Is there very many 6'6" centers? I worry that he may struggle with leverage because he's so tall and someone could easily get underneath him,

Other than quarterback, I think fitting the scheme is way overrated.

But, here are the Nebraska high school players signed by Frost:

    2022: Hausman, Appleget, Stenger

    2021: Carnie, Haarberg, Bretz, Rollins

    2020: Betts, Gifford

2019: Henrich, Hickman, Nelson, Snodgrass, Piper

    2018: Jurgens

Being from Kansas it’s frustrating because I’ve seen several good players go out of state the could have went to Nebraska but they have missed on them or flat out not recruited them, most recently this missed out if Isaiah Simmons and I don’t think they recruited Breece Hall much if at all

Yeah, that's entirely possible as well.  But I don't think it's as much about any certain player.  It's likely between scholarship targets, walk-ons and looking at anyone over the next three years that they are at least monitoring every school in the Metro.  But I'm sure they're at some places more than others.

I don’t live in Nebraska so idk, but have many HS kids from the state fit the prior scheme?

I mean...Ruud was literally in Omaha every week he could be. I don't really buy the stories. It seems like some didn't realize that the coaches weren't allowed to visit anywhere for nearly two years.

I bet it more boils down to the staff didn’t think that the player was as high of caliber as the high school coaches felt said player(s) were

Apologies if this has already been posted:

Thompsons post injury numbers are pretty similar to Adrians numbers, and his pre injury numbers are considerably better, especially the td to int ratio. One thing I think we need to make sure we realize is that on average the defenses in the big 10 are considerably better than the defenses in the big 12

I'd like to say that isn't the case, and then point out how we were going toe-to-toe on the O-Line with both tOSU and Michigan.

But that's not really an accurate thing to do/say, now is it?

I think it boiled down to a handful of things. Poor technique, Poor scheme, injuries, and youth. Jergens was seasoned, but after that the quality of seasoned players left was lacking imo. Much of our promising lineman were/are younger players

  13. I think 8 wins is possible. Losses against OU, and Michigan for sure. I see is probably losing two games to either Purdue, Minnesota, Wisconsin or Iowa. That would put us in a decent bowl game and we go another season with 3 close losses and we leg an egg in 1 game getting beat by 17 or so

We have a guard from FCS and Chubba scheduled to visit this weekend, so there must be some more attrition we aren’t aware of.

I’m wondering if it forced attrition, and Frost is going to to trim the fat so to speak. I’m thinking that Frost and staff are replacing anyone who either hasn’t worked as hard as they like, or they scouted and the player didn’t develop like they visioned

    Just a couple thoughts.

Thompson isn't very big. Just so that "run the damn ball" guy understands, you probably can't use him like Martinez was used (maybe that's obvious). I assume this was the plan though with Whipple at the helm.

But the good news is, he's a pass-first guy. In 2021 he had 24 TDs & 11 INTs. His completion percentage in 2021 was 63.2% (Martinez's was 61.8% this year).

I've been saying that this is what Frost's scheme has needed for two years now. Excited about this.

Casey Thompson is similar in size to the UCF Qb that Frost had and did so well with. Thompson is also a good enough athlete to make teams respect his running ability. A QB like this has the ability to be the home run guy we've needed. Martinez was great but his limitations as a passer and tendency to get injury hampered the offense immensely. And now it appears hopefully we have a guy who can actually develop the backup QBs so the team actually will have some depth at that position as well!

There is also a scholarship issue.  We need lineman more than 2 portal qbs.

The ugly truth of major college football is that a couple guys might not have their scholarships renewed in order to make room for others

I would be surprised if both would come to Nebraska as both will want to be the starter next year

I agree but if we can get both then I’m all for it. We need depth and competition at every position

You must not be looking very hard. All signs point to Busch being named ST coach once Frost figures out his plan for RBs. Busch is on the road recruiting and acting in this role now. He went and got the kicker and punter transfers he wanted.

To me it makes the most sense to hire Busch as the ST coach and Frost coach the rbs. Frost was a glorified RB in his time at Nebraska so it’s not a stretch to think he could coach that position and let Busch focus on improving the most glaring deficiency on the team

Man Slovis has just looked shakey the past two years to me… Got injured and hasn’t really been the same player that he was his freshman year

Sounds awfully familiar to some of our more recents QBs...... but it seems like his injuries are pretty fixable. He had arm fatigue that he never really got to work with a trainer with due to covid and a hamstring that time and proper training won't be a huge deal because he's not a "dual threat" guy
