I see what you’re saying too, I was pulling the exception, and you’re right about needing recruited talent to start paying dividends. Wonder if coaches have a calculation of time spent recruiting a player compared to on-field production.

I doubt it, or our coaches would be on suicide watch!

  2. I think what the article said about losing focus after receiving national accolades is spot on. I can’t imagine how hard it is for a 19 year old kid to stay focused and not be feeling a little invincible after being named a heisman candidate after his freshman year. Especially at Nebraska we’re we’ve had tons of past success and are yearning to see success again.

Well Nixon getting hurt is only going to help keep Wan'Dale at WR. The need at RB was the reason he was running the ball last year. Depth is wonderful but if another 3 guys step up besides Robinson the WR room is in good shape. Manning, Betts, Brown, Fleming, Nance, Houston, and Hickman all have a wide open path to a boat load of snaps.  If Manning pans out as expected you need 2 more guys. I'm pretty confident Lubick can get decent production from 2 of those last 6.  Betts, Brown and Fleming would be my bet, with Hickman right there also.

No love for Kade Warner I see!

this bothers me too.........mot sure what to make of it, entitled to the position? feeling like the job was always his?

McCaffrey will be breathing down his neck.

Maybe it’s just reminding him that the coaches haven’t forgot about his disappointing season last year and are going to continue pushing him throughout the year. Frost seems like one of those guys who will be honest pretty much all the time, and doesn’t really pull punches no matter the situation. While I respect that mentality, it can also be a dangerous road to travel that can easily come around and bite you

  5. It does a lot for culture when nobody, not even QB1 is above the coaches scrutiny. Nobody can say favorites are being played, different players get different treatment, etc. I think this is a brilliant technique by Frost. Also makes some of the things McQuitty said look less legit

I would take any football at this point.

But I agree, Saunders, this would definitely be a step forward. And, I could see changing NW from an L to a W, so then you are at 8-4

I think it’s way more likely we beat northwestern and lose to Penn State. And our 8th win be either Cinci or Iowa

I’m guessing even if they play, it’s gonna be a season with an asterisk next to it in 5 years. Teams will forfeit due to one player getting the virus and half the team having to quarantine for 2 weeks. Teams will have to trot out starting line ups with half their starters gone. With kids on campus, positive tests are gonna pop up pretty consistently throughout the season, and with football, the contact tracing will be a nightmare.

And people are saying our increasing the number of walk-ons was foolish! 2020 National Champs!

  8. This guy could be a matchup nightmare this year. I expect to see him a lot this year. The pressure has to be on Martinez, because if he struggles early on, McCaffery might take the starting job and runs away with it. Competition breads success and that what I’m hoping is happening here

Says this year is the last time they are doing it.  only if I had known about this 20 yrs ago.  I could have been telling myself "oh I'll go next year" every year

Ha ha yea I have been planning on omg back every year the past 10 years

Just think how much worse those 2009 2010 offenses would have looked with the 2019 kicking game at the helm.

Imagine what would have happened in those years if we had anyone other Zac Lee running the offense. If Pelini would of had his last couple years offenses with those defenses, the sky would have been the limit!

Coaches getting paid 5 mil a year in an industry with insanely high turnover, usually don’t purposely put out their worst players just because they are holding a grudge. I hope it was communicated to McQuitty, because there is 100% a reason he wasn’t playing, and it wasn’t because Frost didn’t like him.

I think it's pretty typical for a player who feels like they are just as good or better than others to be upset when they're not playing. With McQuitty, he probably was more athletic then some of the other wideouts, but if he wasn't working as hard in practice or didnt have as good a grasp of the playbook as others (total speculation, I have nothing to believe that is the case) then of course the coaches arent going to play him. Especially when they are trying to change the culture. This honestly sounds like sour grapes to me

If you look at the OL recruits that Frost has brought in they are big, mean and nasty and I think we've had good development so far so I don't question that. I don't know about the DL yet but we've brought in big powerful guys we just need to develop them.

I think with the improvement we seen on the OL from the beginning to the end of last season shows that our staff is capable of developing offensive linemen. I think with a full off season and the experience our young linemen got last season our oline will continue to trend up. The DL is still a huge question mark, but I still believe in our staff

Which he can't do without a waiver because he's already redshirted and isn't graduating. He'd have to take classes somewhere, which would burn into his five-to-play-four time.

The more I think about it, the more it seems like he's going to have to drop a level. Barring a miracle waiver.

If he receives a waiver, I would assume that Frost understands and supports his choice. Which would make me assume that most of what people have been saying about him being a poor team and trying to lead a halfass mutiny against the staff is all smoke no fire.

Reading between the lines a bit, it sounds like Nebraska would have to sign off on a waiver which might not happen.

So Minnesota might be out.  But Oregon State could be in.  If he's still playing football.

I doubt we see him playing in the BIG unless he sits a year
