  1. I hate don’t hate the hire. He’s been successful at the college level and I don’t correlate being unsuccessful in the NFL meaning you’ll be unsuccessful in CFB. He’s not necessarily a “ big name home run hire” but honestly the chances of Nebraska getting one of those guys ever is pretty small. We got what people thoughts was a home run in Frost and it was a huge bust. Rhule is a defense first guy who from what I’ve read believes in strong line play and a physical run game. If he and his staff can develop players he’ll be successful at Nebraska

Why hasn't the name Willie Fritz been thrown out there for conversation?  WE have named about every coach that has done something in the last 10 years, but him?

Fritz was an a$$ for 12 years while at Central Missouri! (A little D2 humor for ya!)

A good coach will acknowledge the situation with Joseph, take him into consideration  and ultimately make a decision based on what is in the interest of of being successful whether that includes Mickey or it doesn’t.

I think you're dead on with this. Imo the new coach should come in, and ask Mickey to go back to being passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator and make him the highest paid guy in the country at those positions. Mickey is an asset to the program that would definitely hurt to lose

I think I know who the mystery man is that checks ALL the boxes.   He knows the entire country in football experience, great on the field and the classroom, available immediately now, will almost certainly retain MJ and Busch having worked with both of them.

Experience in Big Ten and Big 12.
Understands the X & Os  and the Ps & Qs.
    A GRINDER.
    Hard working character guy.
I don’t believe anyone has seriously mentioned his name as a candidate yet.
Almost guaranteed fit in Lincoln.  Probably be a popular choice for some fans while others will take some time to come to like the success he can achieve.  It will be sustainable

    Can u guess him?
i will reveal him tomorrow night if nobody gets it sooner.

If Bob Stoops comes here I'll kiss your grits

My first would be URB but that won't be happening.  ( I figure if I said that - then some how I will be proven wrong and it will happen:blink:)

The bold are my favorites on the rest.  I'm not all that down on Bill O'Brien either.  Esp after he goes to the Saban school.

I dont hate the idea of O'Brien, but whoever hires him is doing so with the risk of him bolting back to the NFL if he has some success. If thats not a worry then I think he would be a solid hire. He took over a Penn St. program that was reeling after the Joe Pa incident and guided them pretty well through that crazy mess.

Kinda like a QB we had the previous 4 years.

There are a lot of similarities between Martinez and Thompson. However in situations when we needed Martinez to drive and win the game, i had practically no confidence in him doing so. I always expected a terrible pick or untimely fumble. Right now I think I would have a lot more confidence in Thompson

I figure his next gig will be an OC somewhere.

I think you're spot on here. If he got in the right program under the right HC he could turn into a good HC. A lot like what appears to have happened with Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian after they spent time with Saban

Maybe.  Or, he wants a very experienced good coach under him that already knows the players and the players know his system. Then, if Joseph is successful, he can a new one in a couple years once he has everything else established.

That's definitely a possibility. All I know is that whomever the HC and OC are, I hope they have a ton of success!

We must disagree on Whip being a good OC/QB coach.

I wasn't trying to say that Whip sucks, however he's not going to be here long before sailing off into retirement. I think HCMJ will want someone who'll be here for more than a year or two

  10. 4 hours ago, BigRedBuster said:

Whipple said he’s probably gone after the year but he will ride Joseph's coat tails as far as he can. So, that tells me that if Joseph is HC next year, he might be back. I’d be fine with him being retained.

IF Joseph gets the HC gig, I believe he will look for the best OC he can find and Whip would get moved to analyst if he wanted to stay around. The only way Whip would stay on as OC is if Joseph couldn't find a quality OC to take his place. If NU will open up the checkbook then I dont see that being a problem

So the argument in the article is that Kentucky and Ole Miss are closer to reaching the playoffs then Nebraska. Very True.  Wt the expanded playoff coming, it is entirely reasonable to think that established coaches at almost all of the schools we've mention (Baylor, Kentucky, KSU, ISU - maybe not Kansas, etc) may prefer to just stay put and back their way into the playoff by getting that 8-12 place ranking.  Or they can battle the problems of turning around Nebraska and hope we can overcome our competitive conference to end up in the top 12.

I say all of that to say, don't be surprise if the new coach is a G5 coach who is successful at that level and wants to finally compete for the opportunity to get into the playoff.

Please quit making too much sense!

Frost can't carry Deion jock, as a player and certainly not as a coach.

Prior to Frost's disappointing run at Nebraska, this would have been laughable. Frost was coming off an undefeated season at UCF, beating Auburn in a bowl game, in his 2nd year as HC. He was the hottest up and coming coach on the market. It was considered by everyone to be a fantastic hire by Nebraska. Unfortunately it did not work out. Deion has now coached 2 season at Jackson State and has success as well. When you look at their coaching resumes side by side, prior to Frost being at Nebraska, there's no way you can make that claim. And that's not even including his time as a coordinator

I don’t view Deion’s personality as a fit for Lincoln at all. Especially when we just fired a coach largely because due to disinterest.

Deion doesnt strike me as the time to be disinterested. I think the reason he would struggle in Lincoln would be is larger than life personality might not mesh well
