Victor Davis Hanson was on last night.  He speculated that because nuclear is a competing energy source to oil and gas, Putin wants people to think it is dangerous and unreliable.

Well he succeeded. Nuclear is a heavy part of my portfolio and it looks like I'm about to be down 15-20% today.

  2. Hopefully there is still middle ground where the killing stops. Feels like Putin should be feeling substantial internal and external pressure. Still Putin won't take a deal where he feels like he loses.

Really? I haven't heard this. I am hearing reports of cities starting to fall.

Everything on the internet is murky. Pro-Russia media is painting one picture, Pro-Ukraine media is trying to paint another picture. It feels like Russia will continue to escalate and get more violent until they get the outcome they desire.

I know - I've thinking any time now we'll hear of airplanes bombing this sitting duck convoy off the road.

Sometimes I wish the west (US and Nato) take on Putin's dare and bomb the crap out his inept army.  I can imagine B-52s raining steel from the skies and they wouldn't know what hit them until they were dead.  A couple of warthogs could do the trick also.  The sorry thing is that  most of his troops probably are against the whole operation and they know they are just Putin's pawn in his game of Risk.

It's what sucks about going head to head with Putin. How do you really win against a person who doesn't give a s#!t about his economy, his troops, his people, hell morality in general. He tanked his economy and is getting young Russians killed to fulfill his own dreams. We escalate by destroying his convoy. He probably responds by leveling entire Ukraine cities, civilians and all.

So true and lord knows they will only help so much.

I'm sure China is steaming that Putin gave the rest of the world a great excuse to join NATO. China and Russia would love a disorganized, weak NATO but Putin f#&%ed that up in a matter of days.

There is a line in the sand if you are a compassionate human.

Unfortunately for Ukraine there is a line in the sand, but the line starts with NATO countries.

A very few may be whispering these thoughts very quietly to trusted friends, if they have such things. For they know that to make a move on Putin, you have to succeed. The price of failure is very high indeed.

Something has definitely caused his accelerated craziness.   The forward question would be…does his military disobey an order if he really goes off the deep end and wants to launch a nuclear strike?

I would certainly hope so, if Putin wants to go down with the ship that's his deal, but they don't have to let it happen.

Allegedly he had a rough bout of Covid around October last year, and he's paranoid of getting it again. The Russian vaccine is garbage and he (apparently?) hasn't sought out Western vaccines.

I read a series of tweets by some journalist speculating that he may have Covid-induced brain fog, hence his out-of-character behavior the past few months. But that thread was heavily criticized, too, for being unacceptably speculative. But I thought maybe she could be on to something, too.

That would definitely make sense. The pictures are so bizarre. Putin half a football field away and his advisors bunched up on one end of the table looking sick to their stomachs that their country is being run into the ground.

  10. To state the obvious, there is something seriously wrong with Putin. Wouldn't be surprised if he has terminal cancer or something. In the pictures of him meeting with his closest advisors, they aren't even sitting within 20 feet of him.

If we fancy ourselves a regional team, gotta start getting some dubs. I haven’t given up on this group but a lotta work to do, starting with getting a Sunday dub.

    If this is true..

If the United States government requested the Ukrainian president to leave Kyiv, wouldn't that be confidential and secret?

So if it's true and the UK president says no, then why would this information be leaked (provided) to the Associated Press media?  Seriously, what is this US gov going to gain from a request to leave and getting turned down?  Media coverage?  US attempts to show communicative support? I think we all know why it would get leaked to the US media/associated press.

This stuff needs to be behind closed doors.

    Probably went like this

"Hey, this is the US, we think you should leave"

    -"No, I'm here, I'm staying"

"Ok.  Let us know if you want to talk some more about it"

Next minute you get all this left wing media support for the White House.  They are all going to eat it up like it's some kind of braveness from the WH.  Just watch.

Uhhh this is huge for Ukraine morale. They’re trying to win a war. US first priority was to get him out, he wants to stay with his country, hopefully the US gets this man his ammo. Not everything comes down to US politics.
