What if climate change gets so bad by 2300 that the only states not underwater are Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska?

You sound just like people at my work who discuss risks to any project.  What if the sun burns out though?! Then we die, Carol!  Can we do this install before that happens or not????

The hot rumor around Iowa was that Chip Kelly was going to leave UCLA to become Kirk's OC and Thompson was going to be their new QB.

    Ell Oh Freaking Ell

    You misspelled Scott Frost. ;)

Seriously though, Iowa is going to hire a Joe Philbin or Paul Chryst type probably.  The most boring, and most Iowa, hire. Kirk was quoted saying something like "the new OC must respect the Iowa offense" or "Iowa style" or some other nonsense recently.

I personally want to watch the meltdown if they hired Frost, but it honestly would be a better hire than the names above who will bring zero change.

Not surprised. The OSU QB’s in their bowl game were Bausermann-eque.  I still don’t understand why Gebbia didn’t get in that game, was he available?  Will be interesting to see if USC now rolls with Miller Moss who balled out in his bowl game.  He was unknown and 3rd string just weeks ago, crazy college football landscape.

Gebbia had to defend his doctoral thesis that day unfortunately.

I still don’t understand why this play was banned.

Question:  is it still against the rules if the QB actually just hands it off to the lineman?  I think it would still work that way. But, I don’t think linemen are athletic enough anymore to have a big gain like this. Or, it’s rare.

Isn't that the same as the big hubbub in the NFL this weekend with the OL not reporting (or the refs missed it etc) and catching a pass for Detroit's 2 PT conversion?  Lineman aren't allowed to handle the ball on a set play I didn't think.  Not to say that really makes a ton of sense, but it is the rule AFAIK.

  5. I hope it is a sign of burgeoning parity, and I hope the 12 team playoff and NIL/transfer portal keep that momentum going.  The same 4 or 5 teams being good/in the playoff every year makes for much less interesting games.  Spreading out the talent will let more teams make runs.

Minnesota has 6 nattys and no one calls them a blue blood

Iowa claims 5 Nattys too. We only claim modern era titles, not ones during ancient years where there were 4 or 5 different entities naming winners.  We could have upwards of 10 like some other schools if we did that also.

Yeah, definitely better to peak towards end of season but this is more than struggling imo. The D zone breakdowns and inability to put a team away should be easy to fix. Sammy G and Lehky being out isn’t helping but I’ve watched virtually all of every one of their games and something just isn’t right. Intermittently they play an awesome period or half game but the rest of the time they are just uncaring and horrible. Hopefully they get it figured out before somebody like the Kraken eliminates them again.

Definitely have to have the drive, which is TBD you're right. They have leaders on the team, but Landeskog continuing to be out is a larger issue than folks realize in the locker room. The biggest difference between 22 and 23/24.  That and a 2nd line C.

The Avs have been quite disappointing so far this season. They just are not taking care of business in their D zone. Last night they were up on the Yotes 4-1 going into the 3rd and ended up losing in OT 4-5   s#!t like this has happened numerous times already this season. It is not goal tending. Giving up way too many turnovers, odd man rushes and horrible defensive breakdowns multiple times per game. Really they are capable of so much better. Maybe they’ll get it together but I would not be surprised to see them get bounced early from the playoffs.

Missing Gerard more than I expected. Toews called out his teammates recently.  Just figure it out come April.  I'd rather struggle a bit in the winter than to peak early like last year.

Please, brother, remove San Fran out of the lexicon.  we hate it when ppl use that term

The Frisco?  Oakland West?  What do you prefer out there? ;)

Am I the only one in this thread that gets half way through reading a post thinking SF is referring to a former coach?

I was tracking with SanFran, but now I have an eye twitch when reading it, so thanks!

I think the thought is that when you bring in 2 really good QBs in the same class, you would hope that you could redshirt one to spread out their eligibility.

However, if Dylan is as good as we think he is, there's a chance he's not going to be here 4 years anyway.  And, we need to bring in a good QB every year, so hopefully, we have another one coming in to compete next year.

Generally speaking, I agree.   It's mostly for linemen and other guys that need to physically develop.

But this situation is somewhat different.  Like you said, most teams usually take one QB per year.  We took two this year.  So it makes sense to split them up if possible.  Also, the hope would be a local kid who is at his "dream school" would be more likely to stick around, like HH has done so far.

Makes sense with 2 QB's coming in this year yes.

Let's hope it never comes to that.  Raiola seems to be a big, strong kid  - the prone to injury.  But either way, it wouldn't be worth burning 2 redshirts.

The only way this would be necessary is if Raiola is injured and misses a significant portion of the season.  HH can be the #2 and play spot duty if needed.  DK can play in four games if he's more ready than HH and Raiola misses a game or two.

If Raiola misses more than four games, I don't know if the season will mean enough to burn DK's redshirt.

Honest question in 2023.  Why are we concerned with redshirts at all anymore?  Kids staying a full 4 years is rare, and the longer they sit the more likely they are to leave.  We want to be recruiting at least 1 QB a year, so expecting to eventually have a bunch of 5th year seniors seems like a bygone way of thinking.

Does it really though? Listen, I’m excited for Raiola, but he hasn’t played a snap in college yet. Plenty of other teams have highly rated QBs. What’s the difference between Nebraska and any of those other teams, or teams that have a QB that’s shown to be competent in CFB?

Depends on where you put the goal posts.  Nebraska versus a good team with a good QB?  Debatable.  Nebraska with DR versus Nebraska trotting out a TE at QB?  100000% yes.
