That’s a really bad metaphor. You don’t know what his ability is. And Purdy has improved a lot. They can both be coached up.

We absolutely know what Haarberg's ability is.  Is putting a square peg in a round hole a better metaphor for you?  Are you telling me you would rather have Haarberg over a 5 star?

What's a 3rd string Center at Georgia making? It's easy to justify in our heads to pay a QB X amount of money because of the value of the position is so high, but it's the collective total of the team that matters and your ability to not only pay that but continue to pay an ever escalating increase.

Sports economics don't function quite like regular economics because the values are only significant relative to each other. 10 million dollars is a lot of money but if you think you're better than the guy making 15 million then you're getting screwed. Sports organizations all over the world have had to put in spending regulations to literally keep teams from spending their way into debt. It's so easy to justify player expense in the name of competition but what happens is at the end of the day the payout doesn't always cover the expenditure.

The NIL thing right now has no real regulation and with the way the NCAA and its member schools are set up and with the courts constantly getting involved I'm not sure how there can be, legally speaking, any sort of regulation needed to get this thing in check without a significant restructuring and collective organization by the respective parties.

Football needs to break away, from both the NCAA and from other sports.  The only way this calms down and college sports remains somewhat what it has been for a century is if this happens.  Take 64 teams and form a league, with a CBA, NIL cap, etc.  Put the other sports back in regional conferences where parents can drive to watch their kids soccer or track meet versus having to fly to Rutgers in order to watch them.   Only the sport with a 15 ish game season makes sense to fly all over the country.

Credit where it's due:  you were right on Ruggeroli.

I was pretty sure we were out of scholarships but didn't consider the option of getting him on a walk-on/NIL deal.  Seems likely that is the case here as well.

People keep saying we are out and over the numbers, but why do we assume the staff won't move guys along to make room for talent that wants in?  You find a way if all of a sudden blue chip guys want to sign up.

You could get a 5 star and he could get injured the first game…we need to keep upgrading our loyal guys like Haarberg no matter what some internet know it all says about them.

The sun could fall out the sky also!  You cannot make QB's out of some people that ARE NOT QB's.  I want guys like Haarberg on the team, 100%, but at other positions.

Here is one concern I have in all of this:  We are in our current situation (bad QB play) primarily because FHCSF had 'his' QB picked before he got here and had him pegged as the starter from day one.  As a result, we had a 4 year starter and the QB room was never developed beyond # 1.  Perhaps we already see some of that developing now - even before DR has signed with DK looking at MSU.   This is the downside of picking the 'can't miss' recruit.  With NIL, that can't miss recruit could also become ex-can't miss if he transfers to greener pastures in 2-3 years.  That is the Debbie downer side of this.

The ideal is to bring in that good 4-5 star QB who has one year left to play next year while preparing both DK and DR to compete in year 2.  I think that is what Rhule is trying to do.  But if both DR and that 5 star 1 year QB both insist on being the starter for next year - then we are back in the same situation as you have to go wt DR for the long term potential at that point and hope his adjustment to college ball is quick.

Nah. The ideal is to get a QB who can play, then figure out helping more be able to do the same after.  Don't get hung up on lining everything up perfectly, it will never work out that way and is a waste of thought energy. Comparing Coach Dumbass to a pile of wet leaves is to kind to him. Give Rhule a chance. GBR.

The whole Raiola to Nebraska thing picked up steam because word got out (from a current NU recruit) that Raiola joined the NU recruits group chat over the weekend.

He just wanted to wish them well, check in.

Why Nebraska's move on Nebraska is not their last

We are so gonna make moves on ourselves!

Probably a good sign that Raiola is coming.

I still don't like to see it, though. You jump ship because they recruit someone else, but then you go to another place and they still are going to recruit guys there, too.

There's just too many unknowns in this game over the course of the next 4 or 5 years to jump ship because of one recruit.

If we really are getting former 5 star McCord for 1 year, followed by 5 star Raiola for a couple years after that, you see the writing on the wall as a 3 star guy.  Could he win the job still?  Sure, but I would evaluate all my options personally.

Amazing that after our worst decade of football, we are still in the top 10 - I do remember when we were # 5 however in wins & well in front of OU - now we are 8th.

The good news is we can suck for another 20 years and still be in the top 10 it appears!   By then none of us would give a crap anymore.

sad how some can make a political post out of anything...

Which is the largest problem with politics in this country, people can't separate being republican, democrat, a tuna fish, whatever from things like science, education, football message boards etc.  Get it out of here people.

Found it.  That sucks we are out but I'm hoping we get Kyle McCord and don't miss out on a top transfer qb.

You got a tweet to embed! I actually cheered.

Also, if we take QBs and Sims leaves, we would have 4 QBs on the roster folks. HH is NOT a QB and they'll move him back to TE where they had him if I had to (hope) guess. Absolute in case of emergency guy.

It would have instantly gotten NU to 8-9 wins this year

Which is a moot point since it didn't happen, and no two years are the same. You've seen the last decade, every year brings new fun. QB improves and all of a sudden we have leaky pass defense so it doesn't matter, etc.
